[Q] Install Regular Phone Dialer on Tablet? - General Questions and Answers

Hello All,
I'd like to install my Galaxy Note II phone dialer on my Galaxy Tablet 10.1 (2014 Edition) so I can make calls (a certain special way). Some of the apps I want to use require "native dialer integration" and currently I'm using a SIP dialer (Google Voice / CSipSimple).
Can someone confirm that I can just send my phone apk via bluetooth over and just install it that way? Would this work (of course it wouldn't work with 4G, it'd work with WiFi via another 3rd party calling app - not CSipSimple).
Please let me know before I do something too crazy. My only worry is since my tablet isn't rooted that I may run into trouble if I want to uninstall it (cannot use Titanium and the app isn't from the Play Store).
If there is another method recommended, please let me know, thank you!

I had a Galaxy Tab 10.1, and fortunately that one has a dialer available here. I don't remember offhand what was required to get the dialer working in that specific case, I'll try and dig up the thread.
EDIT: I took a look around, there are a few theads about it, i couldn't find the exact one i remember flashing. Search gt-7500 dialer and poke around.
In my case, it worked great, it did exactly what you want, but somebody with more android knowledge than myself will have to chime in about your specific case.

[Q] Uninstalling Cyanogen native apps? and other Q's

Hi guys,
I rooted my phone and have been using Cyanogen since and never looked back. The phone works like charm, and with 2.2.1 installed, they keyboard is much better and I can actually use the phone for dialing (the number pad doesn't get stuck!)
I looked in the form but my search brings back hundreds of results that do not seem related to what I need. Cyan comes with some apps I simply do not ever use: The car home one, terminal emulator, DSPMAnager (what is it anyway?) and the voice dialer. First, are any of these apps are needed to run the phone, and can I re-install them separately (without reloading the whole ROM) if something goes wrong? Then, the question is, how do I uninstall them, since I do not have an uninstall option? Is it possible to uninstall Google Talk (because I think it comes as a part of the Google Tools or whatever...), since it does not allow me to log in for more than one account?
Then, I have a more general question:
Is Cyan with gingerbread available from the HTC Hero? Would you guys recommend it? I don't feel I really need it because the phone is fine, but maybe I'm missing out on something I do not know... what are the big new things, besides the keyboard (which I understand can be installed individually anyway).
Thanks!
Use titanium backup it uninstalls stock apps. But be careful which ones u uninstall they will mess ur phone up and cause foreclosures

1. Like the above poster said, use titanium backup to uninstall. It's free in the market. All four of those apps can be removed with no ill effects, however, I would keep terminal emulator in case you ever need to push our pull apk's, decide to use the batt-tweak. Stuff like that. DSPManager is a equalizer.
2. Yes, gb is available in cyanogenmod flavor right here: http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=heroc It had some minor lag issues with the home screen, but camera and gps is working for me. Not sure if compcache and jit is, though.

I'd watch out for Google Talk though...doesn't that break some push notifications (i.e. Gmail)? Could be wrong, have been before
Off the top of my head without looking at a fresh install, these are safe to remove without doing anything special (I dont have any of them):
DSP, Protips, PacMan, FileManager, email (if you only use the gmail app), Live Wallpaper Picker, CMStats, CM Wallpaper, Latin tutorial, Development, Theme Chooser (and the other theme apk along with the two themes preloaded in the /system/app folder), Spare Parts, ROM Manager...If you want to know about any others, just ask...there are far more I have removed, but like I said, they are gone, so I don't remember them
how about fotakill? don't know what it does, so I didn't remove it.

FOTAKILL i believe is the cyanogen updater, do a google search
I removed it with no issues.

Here's link from Cyanogen wiki that gives a list of apps and some details about them - like what they are, can they be removed and such. Also, it documents ways to remove apps.

No, I think you may be right. For whatever reason, I was thinking google voice, which isn't even part of the gapps or cm apps. Leave talk installed.

If you delete Google Voice Search, you will need something else (Vlingo, etc.) in order to have a mic on your keyboard I believe.

Wow thanks for all the responses guys.. I installed some apps and so far I'm good. Now I just need to figure out how to get my dial pad to show up after it turns off during a phone call.

Asus PhotoFrameWidget (4.2/4.4)

Hi,
First:
I am no means called developer so be warned, I consider myself more like an android enthusiastic, so please don't ask me to make it work for your devices or telling me it does not work.
Second:
I have tested this on my devices (on Nexus 7 stock 4.4.2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4.2.1) and it works on both, considering it works on two different devices, I am hoping it should work for most of devices.
Installation (root required):
Unfortunately, even if I tried to make this work as normal app install, i could not able to display the pictures (if you install as normal apk, photos does not display), so you need to push this apk to system/app folder and reboot to your phone and tablet.

I really liked this photoframe widget from Asus, that's why I am sharing with you guys. If it works on your device, a little thank you is more than enough.

[Q] PiPO Pad P1 9.7 Inch Rockchip compatibility problem

Hello,
I just bought this, it's not a major brand and so I knew I wasn't going to have everything as easy as my samsung phone and here's my first problem.
I have two apps I want to install that won't which are Wase and Escort Live, both traffic apps. Both when I go to the android app. store give me a "This item is not compatible with your device." message.
The OS is the same version as my Samsung Note 2 phone (4.4.2) which has both those apps. and I question if there really is a compatibility issue that would matter.
So, is there way to find out exactly what the app is looking for that it can't find that's making it incompatible?
Is there a way of installing an app. even if playstore thinks there's a problem? Maybe there's an app that will make a device look like to playstore it's got what the app. wants?
I bought this device to experiment with, not so much as a work tool, so I have no problem rooting it or whatever if needed although it's rare enough there might not be a known way to root it.
Any help appreciated.

Microsoft edge no fullscreen/Samsung browser in chinese

hey all,
so i have 2 problems with 2 different but my favorite browsers and no matter what i can't solve them.
the first is Microsoft edge always having the status bar not hidden when i wanna watch a video in Fullscreen. It usually worked when i first installed it, but when i had to do a factory reset on my phone it lead to this problem.
2nd is my Samsung browser. I am using a galaxy phone with a custom rom which is from china (Language is set to german) so the stock Samsung browser ofc was in chinese. That means i can't set google as main search engine but instead some stuff i can't even read, news are from china etc.
i thought uninstalling the browser and reinstalling it from play store would help but it's always back to chinese. Does someone know if there is any way to switch it to normal?
(another thread regarding this problem also wasn't answered here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/installing-international-version-t3791542)
Screenshots for the problems are attached.
Hope someone can help me out here.
Phone: Galaxy Note 7 international version

Need old Hangouts back.

I searched for days before posting this, and cannot find what I need. I tried to make it myself, but have failed thus far.
I need any older version of Hangouts that supports SMS (v2 - v17 I believe), but I need it modified so I can use it without being forced to update to the new version that does not support SMS. Versions 16 and 17 kick you out almost immediately. Version 2.1 lets me use it for about 10 seconds (and it works perfect) before kicking me out.
I would think this would be a common request for users whose primary number is Google Voice. I don't know why it is so hard to find a solution (but easy to find others complaining about it like I am here). A v17 modified apk seems like the easiest workaround to the problem to me, but I can't figure out how to modify the version number as I read somewhere. Can someone please just link me to an apk that will work? Even better if there is a dark version (yes, I know xHangouts does dark-mode but I am not rooted and want to keep Google Pay and NetFlix HD).
It would be so awesome if someone just made a Hangouts v17 apk that was black, supported sms, and worked without forced-update to play store version. Many users would thank you!
Alternatively, is there a different SMS app, that can handle BOTH the SIM# and the GV#? Why doesn't that seem to exist? I would like to recieve SMS for both of my numbers. I only ever want to send SMS using my GoogleVoice number (including when I ask Google Assistant to send a message... always use my GV#). I know I am not alone in wanting this simple functionality, but years have gone by with no solution that I can find (though some people change the version number in the apk to stop the forced-update... but nobody ever posts the modified apk... please post for me, I cannot get the apk editor to work so I can update the version number myself to 29.0 or higher).
