Notification Led Colors - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So far, I've seen White, Green, and Yellow.
White - Hangouts
Green - Kik, Tapatalk, side apps
Yellow - Mixture of both? :/
I've tried searching Google. Didn't find anything.
Are there more default lights, and what does each mean?

I'm not sure about defaults but with lightflow you can set different colours for each app.

:good: ^^^This. Been using Light Flow since my Gnex days and love it. You don't need to be rooted to use it (although I am), and you can customize the LED behavior (color, flash frequency, duration of flash, etc.) on a per app basis if you want. The dev is also quick to respond to questions or issues as well.

I know that, but thanks anyways. Im gonna leave it default though.
I also seen someone on Androidcentral say red was also a default color for something.

Red: BBM. I'm pretty sure Tapatalk is Yellow and not green though.
White seems to be all your system defaults. Notifications, SMS, calls, updates etc.

It generally seems to be white, but I've noticed Skype is blue and LINE is green for me. Been wondering if it's a coincidence or not, considering the LED colour is the same as the colour of their respective logos.

I think that if it's green the wifi is in use. If it's grey then it's enabled but in standby. I dunno for sure, but i think that way
it's white when iddle or shortly no reception

green is connected to data and google.
white is connected to data only.

LED flash notifications

Hello All,
Looking to use the phone's LED flash, as a notification... text messages for example.
any suggestions?
Not to sound like a super **** but: have you tried Google Play? I think there's apps that do that

why? that would kill battery like crazy, not to mention it would heat up the led bulb to the touch.
Try light flow on the market. They have a lite version but you may have to be rooted. I don't have time to try it right now but should work. As for heating the led that's not even a concern.

Lightflow does allow for led use. Ive used in the past with the hox.

if i wanna use my phones LED to cook meth, who cares... while i can see the LED using a lot power -im only looking for a couple fast blinks when a text is delivered, thought this was a native function within CM9/10, but thats not the case.
Oh what I'd do for a multi-color LED like the original nexus
+1 for light flow. Go sms also lets you set the notification light. The HOX displays green orange and red.
LEDs don't produce heat

Large ones most certainly do. Like the ceiling light ones all have heatsinks.

Works great. Hope this helps.

Let's settle this: Is there a notification LED or not?

It seems that some say yes and some say no. How could this be so ambiguous. Can someone with the device verify this in any way?

Yes there is. It is located on the bottom of the front panel. You have to enable the notification using light of course. I did find it odd that they did locate the light down there.
Yes there is! With Lightflow you can change the color of the notifications as well
Yes there is and it works well for me without the need for an app.

Why is it odd that it's down there. That's the exact same position that is at on the nexus 4.

Mine flashes blue for chomp which is the colour I selected, it flashes green for whatsapp which is the colour I selected and it flashes white for gmail. I don't have and led control program installed.
Works fine without app for me using rastakat rom which has a few color tweaks!
Yep, it's got a multi color LED.
Really easy to miss, though. It only flashes once every 10 seconds or so, which is pointless for a LED notification light. It's easier just to unlock your phone and check for notifications, rather than sit around for 10 seconds waiting to see if the light is going to blink or not.
LED manager works great too.

it was on the bottom for the galaxy nexus as well
it is odd because most phones have it on the top right corner or around there...the nexus lines have it on the bottom
I've been having problems using Light Flow with my N5. Hopefully an update will fix it!

LED and light manager.

Is it just me, or can nobody else get Light Manager to work properly? I've enabled access to notifications, but despite the fact I set WhatsApp to green and Facebook to blue, they both flash white.
Simply a bug in the app due to a new version of Android, or something more sinister?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Same here only see it all White Maybe Nexus 5 only have White Light?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
No, if you test a notification, the different colours all show up. I'm wondering if the way they have implemented notification access has changed slightly then, or if there is some kind of global override I can turn off....
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Light Manager has never worked for me. It doesn't matter what color I assign apps on my Note 2, Light Manager just assigns them whatever color it thinks is right.
Give Light Flow a try. The N5 definitely has a multi-colored LED
Appreciate the suggestion, but Facebook and WhatsApp require the paid version to work, and I'm not paying to test it to discover they don't work on KitKat yet.

You should try Lighflow. See if that works better for you,
well try lightflow ... only get white notification light
I'm a derp. Nevermind.

Red notification light on the nexus 5

I suddenly got a red notification light on my device with out anything doing in my device any answer to this?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Low battery perhaps?
(Do you have lightflow or another such app that controls LED notifications?)
My battery is still 45% at that time

Was your phone around any type of moisture? Or did it get wet somehow? I've read in some of the water damage threads that some people experience the red flashing notification light after it's been damaged from water.
No i dont think it got wet it was on top of a table and the room was cool and dry

Restart and see if it come back.

Some apps use a red notification LED by default. I know my fiancee uses the SportsCenter app and it pulses the LED red when there's a notification.
i see the same happen on my G2, usually when i pull into my driveway and i connect to my wifi
I'm a relatively new nexus 5 user and am sometimes confused by what the color leds correspond to. Is there a tool that will indicate which app sends which color led signal?
I know Push Bullet gives me green notifications. I'm stock as well.
I think i found the problem its my zynga poker app that gets a red notification light

I am rooted but using stock rom.
Various apps utilize led notifications but it is hard after a while to remember which color corresponds to which app. I thought there might be a tool, not to modify them but just to list which app sends which color. But I guess not.
Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the LED light does flash red when the phone is charging, I myself downloaded Light Flow, which allows you to manage all aspects of the LED light, I like it much better than not having control over it . But like you said you did nothing, so must be just an app you have.
I wonder if an app that monitored the logcat could deduce who the heck triggered the light so you could at least find out what app was responsible?

You can go to settings-apps.Check to see what is currently running. What kind of apps do you have that run all the time?
