Not receiving SMS on sprint - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, unlocked running multiple different ROMs I've noticed that I'm no longer receiving texts. Sometimes they all come in later in the day in a big batch. I am on Sprint and using the Google voice integration. If I install the Google voice app I can get my texts right away in that app but not coming through hangouts. Anyone have any experience with this or any ideas? I've flashed back to stock, but still unlocked and rooted... No change. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Tried using chomp SMS, no change. Also, MMS appears to be unaffected.

I had this issue my first day with my Nexus... I found that toggling my mobile network between global and LTE fixed it. Then I updated profile and PRL and it hasn't happened since

Sweet, thanks. I'll give it a shot.

Text messaging problem

Hey guys. Im having some trouble with my text messaging. When ever i receive messages, it is showing that i received them 4 hours ago. So all my received messages are going to the top and messing up my chats. Does any one know how to fix this?

I'm using cognition 2.2.beta.9.1.3. It's thebrogers build if that matters.

Best bet usa to flash back to Cognition and see if the issue goes away.

Hey...just got the Captivate yesterday and had the same problem. Are you on Rogers (or another provider besides AT&T)? This is more likely a network problem. Download the "SMS Time Fix" app. It will fix the problem.
Yes its a rogers phone and I'm using it with fido. Thanks that fixed the problem.

[Q] Cannot Text Past 160 Characters

Problem: The stock 2.3.5 messaging app stops me at 160 characters because that's when it is suppose to automatically split the text, but it stops me and will not allow me to type anymore. I cleared the messaging app data and it still does the same thing. I have to send 2 separate text messages, which I may ad is very very very annoying.
Situation:
1. I'm on full stock Nexus S 4G 2.3.5. I'm not rooted.
2. I am using Google Voice and I have updated to the latest version, and I have set it to use my messaging app. I am using the stock 2.3.5 messaging app because that's the one I like.
3. I have isolated the problem to the 2.3.5 stock messaging app. I unported my number from Google Voice, and uninstalled it, and still the messaging app will stop my at 144 characters.
Help me? Is this a known issue? I haven't tried restoring to defaults, doing an RTN reset, or going back to 2.3.4 yet, but I will if that'll fix it. I do not want to use third party application either. I like the stock app and I find this very stupid that this is the only phone that I have encountered this on. I remember this working before, but for some reason I can't anymore. I think I was still on 2.3.4 before though.
Please? Help me out...
You can find a modified mms.apk from cm7 here that allows over 160 characters with automatic split.

I don't think so. My stock mms apk splits messages just fine. Only I have i9023, don't know if it's different with SPH-D720
This is a known issue and one of the things I hated... As stated above there are some flashable mms files that have the limit removed.. But of course I think root and recovery would be needed.. The file I am using works awesome.. So they def do fix this issue.

Then it isn't splitting correctly.

put that in your system/app/ folder with root explorer or adb shell

Okay thank you for your help. It seems that sprint isn't built it automatically split for the nexus, and when you remove the limitation it can't handle it causing the corruption. The messaging program itself had to have a built in thread splitting setting.

Mine did that too at first.. If you change the setting in the messaging app to split the text or add the split counter, it works.. Mine now show 2 of 2 at the end, but it works without the jumbled letters...

You come back and tell me that when six months later you still don't have Ice Cream Sandwich. Why not wait for the Nexus Prime.

Voicemail notification

Hello. I have this big question. It's burning my insides. My voicemail notification keeps telling me I have a voicemail. Yet I call and it tells me there is none. At all, and Its making me mad as hell. And yes I trolled the hell out of the internet to find a solution... only found a temporary one which is clear the phone app data. Which the notification reappears reappears after a random reboot. So I come to you with my problem, asking you how the funk do I fix this shizzle.

Try leaving yourself a voicemail from another phone, then listening to it.
Also, in dialer, press menu button to go to settings then set back your voicemail number to your number. That can also help.
Voicemail notification (icon) is carrier related/supported. Call your carrier to check/complain.
Manage application /all/phone, clear data & cache.

Tmobile mms not working

Since I had the phone on Thursday everything was fine. I've been using 8sms messaging app and I was able to send and receive pictures. But on Monday all my mms speed coming through. All I get is the notification that there is an mms waiting (see picture). And it's not just for pictures but even if I send a mass text message to a couple people and someone replies it comes back as a mms and even that won't come through, after I click the "download" button it just says "couldn't download message no subject from (senders name)". I'm on a T-Mobile family plan.

Oh wow - I have to say this is really dumb, I just changed my default to making app to textra and all the pictures/ mms I had waiting came through in the textra app. Still nothing through hangouts and 8sms...

I had this issue a few phones ago with Tmobile. I had to call and add MMS to my account even though it's free. Might not still be that way but worth a call.
Well it works with the textra app but not with hangouts or 8sms.

I was having the same problem with AT&T Nexus 5, installed Textra and all seems to be fine. Thank you , Thank you, Thank you!

So I don't have cell service yet but I'd like to get my voice messages through hangouts. Is it possible? I'm on paranoid android with Franco kennel.

Yes. Go in your Google Voice settings and under sync and notification, select messaging app under where you'd like to receive your messages.

But then I can't send messages out without cell service.

You will need to be connected to WiFi. Test it out and post your results back.
Google voice will just reroute you messages to hangouts but it will still use wifi to send the messages.

I've already tried the suggested in this thread. No bueno at all. It don't work it stays stuck on sending when I start a message to a contact.
That's the only way I know of getting GV messages in Hangouts.
I've never tried it without service. I guess hangouts itself is totally dependent on cellular networks by default. Sorry couldn't be of more help.
Sit tight. I'm sure someone else will have another idea for you.
