Hi guys i'm nes on this forum, i'm italian and i have a samsung captivate i897, i also take this opportunity to introduce myself...
Now i expose you the problem:
i have a i897 captivate marked AT&T for this i have a problem to fix the GPS and to install applications outside the market, I would like you to help me to make clean OS from the applications AT & T and put in i897 a i9000 ROM not rooted...please guys help me, and thanks in advance
1. Read the new owners guide.
2. This forum is about learning things by yourself. Don't expect to be spoonfed.
3. Custom ROM always =Rooted mind you.

You have to discover by yourself what suits your needs.

the new user guide (that i wrote) teaches about stickies! and where to find them!
find the stickies in the captivate general, q&a and dev forums they have all the answers you are looking for and way more.
go. read. learn.
this is really basic stuff. At&t does not like you installing apps not from the market "its called side loading" you need to be rooted to fix it and there are pleanty of guides "one click root has an option to enable non market apps" to get a different rom go to the dev sectoin chose a rom and follow the simple directions or for a guide for the entire process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Assuming what you meant was that you want ATT's crap taken off and a new ROM...
Why would you not want your device rooted? If voiding your warranty is a concern it's fine, there are plenty of methods to return back to stock Eclair/Froyo. And there really isn't a ROM out there that's head and shoulders over the rest, you're going to have to play around and see which one you like the feel of the best. Try out a different ROM every couple of days and see how you like it.

If you are asking someone to help you build a rom well... I don't think that will happen. You can go to samfirmwares.com and download a stock i9000 rom, but without root you, and if you don't know how to build to incorporate the home button and haptic feedback fixes, your phone won't work right. My suggestion is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
They are all stock i9000 roms with only busybox and root installed. I'm using the stock jvh on my captivate, at the moment, and it works great. You will have to deal with root. It's better to be rooted anyway.

Only replying to that small part of your post, and correcting you by saying no, you don't need to be rooted to sideload applications. SWM (Sideload Wonder Machine) can do it so long as you have the drivers installed and USB Debugging on. I installed several applications as soon as I got the phone, long before I ever rooted my phone, much less installed a custom ROM on it.

Why didn't you use google? There are plenty of places that explain how to root that aren't on this site, which is more an "advanced" place anyways(I use that term loosely, but I get the idea that people here assume you know a little about your phone).
Check out MobileTechVideos, the guy who does those had a three-part, in-depth ROM flash set of videos that explain exactly how to use One-Click to Root.
Edit:
Christ dude, use some decent punctuation and at least attempt to be succinct in your requests. Freaking out isn't going to get you anywhere.

First off, thanks go out to: CrimsonSentinel13, paxChristos, and DooMLorD!
A couple days ago I tested DoomLorD's Xperia X10 Easy Rooting Toolkit [v3.0](zergRush Exploit) on my windows 7 vm after using my [Heimdall][UVKJ6] Back-To-Stock Heimdall One-Click.
Today I was also successful rooting from my debian linux vm using methods 2b and 4 from this page: [HOW-TO] Root Phones w/ Android v2.2.x-2.3.x (zergRush Method)
If you are feeling squeamish, there is also a noob friendly guide in pdf format available.
I hope you find this useful.
Cool. Gonna try it on my dads phone and come back. Thanks.

Hey, cool! I wanted to try a smaller set of testers at first
I'll post in the dev section after I get some testing.
For me, so far so good. Almost an hour on the new kernel.
You know you don't need this thread if you use that kernel.
If you feel like testing, check out: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11298-beta-kernel-testers/
Nothing fancy going on yet. Just stock kj6 from source with cwm+voodoo lagfix. I just want to build up a QA base for testing changes.
Don't comment about the kernel in this thread. If you don't have a rootz login, please PM me if you find problems.

Good day everyone,
I'm new here and I was looking up on how to root my Touchmate TM-MID810 Tablet.
So I tired the ways which were presented here but unfortunately none of them worked for me, also I tried using the Superoneclick v2.3.3.0 but it stucks' and keep giving me the same message (Not Responding) so if someone may have a different way or knows any other way which I can follow to root my tablet device it's be very generous from him/her to explain it to me and help me out here please; and I will be very thankful.

Every method of rooting I find has nothing to do with ICS, could someone help me on my marry way, I would really appreciate it. I just want to do a basic root, so that I can maybe change the kernal and pep up the CPU a bit.

Thanks and I did thank you, I am trying this now, I am guessing I want ICS .11, since that one is still rootable. I am trying it now, I cant believe I got this it was already on 4.03. Why do people upgrade just to upgrade... jerks.
I will let you know how this goes.
I think .17 is rootable with ViperMod also or you could just do Wolf's method 3 which let you install the recovery blob via abd and flashing the su afterward with cwm
Yeah, I actually went with the .11 Blog backup, and then rooted it without any problem at all, now just what to do, what to do... I do appreciate everyone who helped out, thanks much.
I can't find any thread that points to rooting droid xyboard 10.1 verizon 4g LTE model with ics update. I have the verizon xyboard 10.1 mx617 32 gb version in 4G LTE . Thanks in advance
Please post questions in the Q&A section. Thanks!

I guess either no one wants to help me or no root option is available for this device on ICS at the moment.

if you still need direction...
I used the DroidRazrUtility (from Rosenberg I believe) one click today...was on ICS leak, flashed back to HC (donated to runandhide05 for the fast-boot files) and used Rosenberg's Utility to root, Version 1.80. You can find the fast-boot files in Xoom General here in XDA (if you need them). I Googled Roseberg's Utility, extracted, ran the .bat....rest is history.
i hope this helps you.

edit: sorry, after i flashed back to HC i updated my XYB to ICS from Motorola...THEN used the Utility...
thanks but it sounds complicated and risky to go back to HC and then root and then reflash to ics. I want a simple ICS root. but thanks, you are the only member who took interest in my thread.

I am so grateful for this site and for people like you. I have wanted to root the xyboard MZ 617 for a long time now. However, I cannot find a reliable method and am very new to rooting. I have been an avid android believer since the first itteration, but have never ventured into the wonderful world of rooting. I have done a lot of research and like that you use Rosenbergs method because he seems like one of the most respected devs out there. What I need, if you please, is a simplified breakdown of EXACTLY what I will need to do in order to root this device. It has been running ICS for a while. I have had a ton of glitches and hardware/software issues. Some of which were repaired by Motorola and the rest Verizon and Moto have pointed the finger at each other and the middle finger at me. I will be quite grateful for your help. Thank you

Check the existing thread. Everything you need has already been explained.
@jonas.anderssen
Why exactly do you want to root? Because you have a specific need, a particular application that you can't live without? Or because it's super-cool to have a rooted phone? Rooting can be simple, but it brings difficulties, such as no longer being able to install OTA updates, so you're looking at doing manual updates every month every time Google releases a new version with security updates.

There are countless threads here and also dedicated stickied threads describing step by step how to do this. If you want someone to hold your hand and don't want to do any of the reading or work, then you shouldn't root your phone. Because you'll just be on here in a month crying about how your phone is bricked and wanting someone to hold your hand again.

Hello, i am sorry i thought i replied to you but somehow i missed it. I would like to root my secondary phone because i do have some apps i cant use them without a unrooted phone. I am aware that i wont be able to install weekly updates but thats not necessary because this is a secondary phone.
I have found out a website that shows me how to root it it asked me to download fastboot, recovery clockworl. beta supersu, android studio and hamemrhead mmb2. It seems to be a complex issue but i remember in the past i used ODIn and it rooted the phone within 10 seconds without any issue. Is that still possible?
Thank you again for your time
Ten seconds, no.
But the website says to download "hamemrhead mmb2", which I suppose is Hammerhead MMB29S. If all you want is root, and not a new ROM, you can do it easily by booting into recovery (CWM or TWRP) and installing SuperSU v2.66. It's that easy. 30 seconds, maybe.
And if you're going to work on your phone you need to work on your typing skills first...
You have an excellent resource in this Q&A section, had you read prior to posting your own thread, you probably would be rooted by now.
