Is there no native voice recorder in the droid series? I have a maxx but can't seem to locate one anywhere on the phone. I know I can always d/l an app but that's not what I'm asking. It seems a bit odd that such an essential feature would be left out!!
GravityBox xposed framework module has a quick record quick settings tile. Each recording is re writes over the previous though.

There is but the only way to access it would be from the stock messaging app and selecting attach and record audio. It should save the file to the phone under /sdcard as an .amr file.

I found this hidden app by accident when I was trying to upload an audio file using Dropbox on the Nexus S. When the menu pops up asking to select which program to use, an app called Sound Recorder was one of the choices. It appears that this is in the .apk and not a standalone app. However, it does appear in the list of apps under "Manage Apps." Does anyone know if Google plans to enable this feature? I've already purchased a sound recorder app from the market, but I'd prefer a native solution if Google is going to release one. (I can't believe that 2.3 doesn't have a native sound recorder, by the way).
I have this app as part of cm7

Ok been messing around trying to get a ringtone to work for a while know and I found a rather odd way to get one working. Ok so first you will need to go to settings - programs - calls and then turn off third party. Not sure why off and not on but whatever. Now download full screen caller Id from market. You need to go into settings - text to speech and make sure you select for it to be used when in silent and vibrate. I then setup to have a video ringtone. Now you need to press down on volume till ringer is off and then if done right you should now have a ringtone when you get a call. I know its not the best work around but figured I would share till someone has something better.
You should have posted this in the general section.

Crap sorry man wasn't sure were to put it but I guess that makes the most sense now lol.
Actually you should have posted this in the MIUI thread in Q&A but who cares. Thanks for the workaround. Hopefully will see a working kernel for this bad boy to make workarounds absolete.
I mean absolutely no offense to OP but can anyone using the miui rom confirm this? Got sweet child of mine set up to my liking and am reluctant to flash another rom for an unconfirmed work around. Been wanting miui for awhile but, really don't want to bother with flashing it just to have to flash back. Been there, done that already. Thanks.

I agree with booboo773, last time someone said they found a work around I flashed back to MIUI and it didn't work. I would like some additional confirmation on this before flashing back from Sweet Child Of Mine, so if anyone else can confirm this please let us know. Thanks!
I just flashed miui last night to try to find a workaround as well.. will post feedback in a bit
Edit
ok well i used your idea and found an easier way. Theres an app called Video Caller ID (free).
its much easier to set up. and your right about the Third Party option in call settings.
Also, i think the video should be in .mp4 format. i only have .3gp and .mp4 to test, and .3gp didnt work so..
Another thing is setting volumes in Settings-Personal-Sound-All Volume.
I turned Call volume all the way down, and the Media all the way up.
I can stop missing calls now and enjoy a stupid fast ROM!

I still get sms ringtone... odd.
My phone is not on silent mode. I just turn the call volume down, everything else up. Most importantly the media volume, as Video Caller ID uses the Media volume.

I'm using mp4. An easy way to make a tone is to download with tubemate and you can trim with vidtrim both apps are free in the market.
Weird, video caller id won't load any video, it sees them in mp4 format but when I click on the "make default" slider and go to select a video the app won't load it as a default. ....I do get other text to speech caller id aps to work.

I can't seem to find it in my app draw. It's still listed if I open up apps under settings, and its also shown in TiB. I have my phone rooted and installed the .82 leaked ruu. But NEVER debloated the voice recorder. Ideas ? I use it frequently on my last phone

att made it inaccessible, but there is a way to get it on your homescreen. Get es explorer...open and go to the 5th menu button over "app manager" I believe. Then click on "category" at top and click on "system files" in the menu that pops up. Scroll down to the voice recorder and hold it until you see menu pop up...choose shortcut and it'll put the app on your homescreen. There is no way that I know of that will actually put it in your launcher though.

Using a third party launcher puts it back in the app drawer.

'fraid not. They're two different apps. But yes, Notes will record voice.

Anyone notice HORRIBLE recording quality?
I recorded some clip of me playing some acoustic guitar and it sounds like ****... like gurgle gurgle.
My GS II Skyrocket recorded it quite well.
I downloaded a 3rd part recorder and same thing.
anyone experience this?

/replying to old post but maybe someone else will be looking for an answer/ Default voice recorder produces horrible sound quality because it saves the clips in a low quality 3gp format. If you're looking for something better, there are some 3rd party apps, that allow you to save audio, for example, in wav(es).
Motox Dev. Stock 4.4.3
On the all apps tab i can see one native app called sound recorder, version 4.4.3-23.
Yet it is nowhere to be found. It's not disabled. Already tried the stock and an alternative home screen app.
Also tried to add a activity shortcut on hone screen to see if it appeared on the list. Nothing.
Where is it?

Have you tried to see on settings => Applications
Normally you will find all of your apps into your device.
If you need more technical infos go to Moto X Q&A
That's exactly my point.
I can see the stock rom sound recorder app in settings-applications-all.
But nowhere else!
Sent from my XT1053 using XDA Free mobile app
There is no sound recorder stand alone app. The sound recorder app they see in settings, apps, all....is just a sub-app of Google, for Google now and whatnot.
Its the same on moto x and N5.

Hi mates,
I heard Google blocked native call recording in pie. Is it anyway to get it done by mod or rooting or custom ROM.??

It is my understanding they disabled the ability to record calls without root.
