Should i Buy a Moto G and sell my S3 Mini? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, everyone I got a deal yesterday, my friend wants to buy my s3 mini and someone is selling me a moto g, I just need a few more bucks which I can get to buy the moto g 16gb, do you think its a good choice? Or should I stay with my s3 mini? Idk what to do, sadly I can't afford a high spec phone right now, but I'm interested on the moto g cause its pure Google, good battery and design, which I love, I'm kinda concerned about the SD too, but also I might buy an iPod which will give me a lot of free memory, merry Xmas BTW

The Moto G is a better speced phone than the s3 mini. You made the right choice.

Yes! do it! I came from an s3 mini which i used for about a year. Overall i love the auto brightness on the moto g seeing how the s3 mini doesnt have it and screen at 100% brightness wasn't that good in the sun. While the Moto G at 100% brightness it is very good even in the sun. Also better battery life with medium usage 2.5+ hr of games i was able to get 8 hours of screen on time with 17 hours of standby time! That's really good seeing how i average about 3.5 hours of SOT with my mini. In the end it is worth upgrading to the Moto G!!

Thinking exactly this same thing. I bet I'll order my moto g soon.. This s3 mini is making me sick with all these samsung bloatwares and STericsson's crappy processor with no source code.. So not much development here. Sammy has also left us "because of Samsung is too small company to get source code from STEricsson and make futher android updates." Definitely my first and last sammy device. Nexus/moto line is the way to go. Pure android, nice hardware and great price. 200e about quadcore device, can't go wrong I think
Sd card is thing that makes me wonder but I guess 16GB version is just fine. As I understood moto g should support usb-otg, if so then storage is not problem at all

Go for it!
Sell the s3 mini and get the moto G, right now! It would be the best decision you've made in the whole year :good:

This is no brainer!
4.4.2 KK and future updates !

Yes.

What is more you can get 50gigas in Google drive and about the micro sd I ordered the Meenova micro sd card external adaptor it is 12 bucks it has not arrived yet but I hope it will work so that solves the expansion bit.

[Q] Should I keep my HTC One X or move to the Moto G?

I've posted this on Reddit, but I want to know the opinion of the new Moto G community.
Here goes:
I have my very loved HTC One X (International) with me at the moment. I've been happy with it after a year and a half.
My phone has the HOX wifi fault. And the battery life barely gives me 2-3 hours screen on time. I've tried underclocking, flashed custom roms, kernels, etc. But the battery still doesn't last me within the day. Not even until noon.
But I've been reading pretty good stuff about the Moto G and it's hardcore battery life.
I know that somehow I'm downgrading. I'll miss the slightly larger screen though. Also, I don't care about the camera, because I have my Canon EOS M with me which I can copy pictures to the phone via USB OTG.
Would it be worth it if I sell my HOX and get that one? Or do you have a phone to recommend me? I'm planning to get a Pebble smartwatch too if ever.
P.S. I'll be able to sell my hox for like $220-ish here in the Philippines. My cousin is in the US at the moment for the holiday season. So I have my way to get that phone.

Get a Moto G, it's really good.
Before I bought the Moto g I had the opportunity to buy a used One X. Same price I thought "get the newer Google Device".. Now having the moto g I am very happy with that! Get the Moto g.
The only thing that isn't good is the cam..

Few day's after getting Moto G, I got as gift Sony Xperia Z1, and as I prefer Moto G, the Z1 is still in box and I think I will not use it (too big, too heavy etc) at all, but as it's a gift, I also can't sell it.
If you cant sell it, give it as a gift to me, i will sell it and give you 40% of the price
Thanks for the tips! I'll be selling my HOX soon. Hopefully before Christmas.
Only phone I recommend over the moto g is the nexus 5

Hi. The moto g is the way to go so far the battery experience is much better than the nexus 4 the phone I used have and the nexus 4 is a beauty. 50 gigas in Google drive and I have run all the apps that I did in my nexus excepting a couple like gravity box and touch control (gravity box works OK in 4.3 but it doesn't in 4.4.2) the others work flawlessly. I have no experience with pebble but I have a sony smartwatch 2 and it works nicely with the moto g. So my advice based on my experience get the moto g. Besides those kind guys who are developing are working hard to allows to have those tweaks we love.

How are you finding the Moto G in relation to the one X?
My one x has the wifi fault and a horrid battery life and the black screen of death and so I definately need a new device until upgrade time
Would you recommend a Moto G?
Thanks

I also have the wifi fault with my HOX, and battery life was very terrible. I had to do lots of tweaks that compromises the performance of the phone to get more juice, but still has bad battery life.
I'm glad that I was able to sell my HOX for $220+ here in the Philippines, and got myself the Moto G plus a shell that my cousin will be bringing home from the US. Can't wait to get it!
I wasn't able to buy me a Pebble though. The $89 sale at Best Buy was done. Although They announced the Pebble Steel which IMO looks great and I'll try to save for that instead.
I hope I didn't make a bad choice. Battery life is really on my priority list, that's why I didn't try to save up for the Nexus 5.
I really really can't wait!

I got the Moto G after my One X stopped working. My research suggested that the One X, Nexus 4 and the Moto G were quite similar. In practise, it was similar to the One X, the differences that I've noticed:
The screen size is slightly smaller but not by much. You have quite large bezzels at the top and bottom - there is less screen space because there are no hardware buttons at the bottom as there were on the One X which I find annoying.
It seems to be a bit slower than the One X. Transitioning between apps can be a bit delayed at times.
The camera is significantly worse, but I prefer the camera app.
Battery life may be a bit better (I'm not sure to be honest). However, this may be because I am comparing to a one+ year old phone, and I had a problem with the wifi draining battery (but only with a particular router).
I also switched to CyanogenMod eventually, so the comparison may be slightly inaccurate.
For this price (and anything significantly higher), I would definitely recommend the phone.

[Q] Xperia L owners, would you trade your phones for a Moto G?

I've had an Xperia L for at least 6 months now, but I'm really considering to sell it and buy a Moto G instead.
That's no question that the Moto G is a better phone, the only question is if it's worth selling my phone for ~$135 and paying an extra ~$70 for a used Moto G (but it's in a perfect condition).
70 bucks is not that much, but to me, as a student with no income it's enough money to consider what I spend it on.
I think I'm just curious if others would trade their phones or not, so I can reassure myself that I'm not doing something stupid, so would you rather buy a Moto G?

Absolutely. But I wouldn't pay extra.
Without MicroSD slot Moto G is useless for me. I'm using XL(8GB)+ 32GB SanDisk. And I have 2.3 GB free space.

I'm the opposite, I have an 8 GB SD card, and it's completely empty. I only use the space for the apps, since every picture/video I take is immediately uploaded to Dropbox, and I use Spotify for music. Apps only use 1 GB on my phone, so even a 4 GB Moto G (if it existed) would never be full in my case.
nope i wouldnt
It certainly is better in terms of performance. But the look and feel of Xperia makes me attracted to it. On the long run, I feel Xperia L would be better. It looks better, and feels better. And i love SONY apps! So, i wouldn't even think about exchanging for G
Xperia l as an overall phone beats the moto g. But performance wise the moto g wins up to you.

Exactly! Moto G might be higher on in terms of performance and updates. Same with most phones out there. SONY might be lagging on the updates. And we might have some real cool KK ROMS. Loads of KK ROMS. But nothing like STOCK! No matter how much i play around with those stuff, i tend to fall back on STOCK SONY. That just brings me up higher!
Thanks for your answers, but even though most of you would choose the Xperia L, I realized the Moto G is better for me.
I don't need a microSD slot, I don't particularly like the looks of XL (but I don't hate it either, I'm neutral on this one), I virtually don't use any of the Sony apps, even the launcher, the icons and the navigation bar buttons are changed by some 3rd party apps . But probably my biggest problem with XL is that I find it uncomfortable to hold, because its bottom is so sharp. Even after only using it for just a couple of minutes, it physically hurts my little finger.
It was a good phone, I had it since 2013 October, but the Moto G is more for me than the Xperia L.
Glad to hear that. Please do feel free to change. hope you have a good time with the new phone.
Yeah good luck with ur new phone I know that there are loads of custom ROMs available as well for the moto G

I managed to sell the XL for a little bit higher, so now I just have to pay $50 for the Moto G, maybe it's still too much money for not that much of an upgrade, but I also found a good used Moto G, and I'd only have to pay an extra 35 bucks for that, which sound much better than the original $70 extra.
And I'll never buy a Samsung, you don't have to worry about that one
Go for it mate. Motorola provides clean updates(yeah it's getting 4.4.3 already), and overall it's a great phone with great specs. The only thing that bothers me is the 5mp camera, other than that the phone's perfect, just my opinion. By perfect I mean, Moto, provides it with good updates and it's got great specs for an affordable price, so hell yeah!

What device to buy?

Hi, can you help me decide what phone to buy? I'm currently using Moto G 4G (XT1039) which I really love for it's flexibility (no problem with unlocking bootloader, flashing TWRP, rooting, using custom ROMs) and clean Android, but it's kinda old and during my experiments I managed to break its 3G modem, so I'm looking for an upgrade. What I'm looking for is a phone with around 5 inch screen, good battery and good developers support, a phone that will last for another couple of years, so something with at least 2GB of ram and good SOC. It doesn't need to be brand new, some 2 years old flagships are welcome. I'm thinking about LG Nexus 5 which is affordable and has nice stats or maybe Moto X 1st edition - I don't know. I'm willing to pay no more than 200 GBP. Thanks for all advice.

Who's thinking about getting a Z?

Looks very tempting to me. I've always liked the Moto X line and the added features it brings. I kind of like the JBL module too. I'm going to keep my eye on this phone until the end of the year and make a decision. It's probably going to be between the Z, OnePlus 3, and the new Nexus.
I will think about it below $400.

I've recently moved over to an iPhone with my wife. I still have a handful of the newer Android phones, but the Moto Z doesn't really pique my interest like the One Plus 3 does. Then again I'll probably wait for the next Nexus and see what happens with that.

Come on over to the Moto Maxx forums, we have CM13 and Resurrection Remix being actively maintained
---------- Post added at 03:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:34 PM ----------
As for what I think of the Z:
They need a much larger selection of modules if they want to make an impact on the market, and they need to continue making phones that support these mods.
I don't plan on buying one right now, simply because I'm in college and don't have money to throw at new phones... but if this Droid Turbo (Verizon's "special" Moto Maxx) breaks, the Moto Z is high on the list. I've always had Motorola phones and I haven't had any reason to look elsewhere yet
Im really thinking about it. I currently have an LG g3, Samsung galaxy s4 and Samsung galaxy s5. The g3 have good memory ram management, but it has an IPS screen (which is good: no image burn like in amoled; and bad: no as bright as Amoled screen). The s4 is okay but ram managment is not as good as LG G3, the same with the S5, however, both have Super amoled screen ( which is good: very bright screen; and bad: it might develop burn in image if not careful). sooo the moto z/z force has 4 GB or Ram , and have Amoled screen. It also have sd card slot, and it might not only be limited to those modules. The LG G5 was my first option, but this one seems to be less prone to have built quality issues, unlike LG g5. but i'm also having my eye on Project Google Ara, but that one will be for 2017. Still, i think the modular design of Moto Z/Z force is one that can be truly called a modular phone. there is no need to remove battery (it is impossible anyway) to use the modules. in addition to that good amount of mAh it comes with by default (at least the Z force. So chances are 70% that i will buy this one over the g5

So I will buy this in a heart beat, but it must be rootable. I'm hoping it can since the Moto X Pure Edition could...

Aaah yess. I mean. I could use it without root but having root always makes it a lot better. Although, the modularity part would be a little tricky if custom roms are released. Something tells me that there is more to it than just "plug and play" or in this case, attatch. But... I think they will release the tools (or make it open to the public so they can come up with ideas for new modules) this will make it easier i think
Price
This might be a rumor but if this rumor happens then... Well, It will be a better deal than the LG G5. According to this website: https://motog3.com/moto-z-moto-z-force-moto-mods/
The price for the Moto Z will be $499 dollars, and for the Moto Z Force $549. If this happens to be true, then I like the way they raised the price just a couple of bucks more for the Z force unlike other devices which raise up to $200 bucks more for a better version let's say. Anyway, I've posted a picture of what it says.
I hope those prices hold, but on Verizon with Droid slapped on them I kind of doubt it.

As someone who loved their moto x pure edition, but shattered the phone on space mountain (disneyland)... I've been holding out for the new moto x announcement. Instead we got the Moto Z announced in it's place, while it seems cool... it seems to sacrifice quite a few features I really enjoyed and I'm concerned about losing. Particularly the audio jack, I'm also worried about the longevity of the hold of these magnetic mod plates... I'm in a bit of a bind, I can't really keep using my friend's old bind, but i'm unsure if I'll want the moto Z at this point (although it looks pretty awesome). I'm debaiting on picking up another moto x pure since they're on sale right now and giving away a free moto 360 sport which I wouldn't mind playing around with. What are your guy's thoughts?

If the audio jack is a problem for you, and you loved the Pure Edition so much, I'd say get it again now since you do get the free smartwatch. However keep in mind that it's the Sport, which is the worst of their smartwatches, and the Pure Edition is near it's end of life, especially considering Moto's recent history...

I just want to ask

Or if you are planning to replace it
"What phone do you plan to replace your Moto G 2015"

hi,
i am very much liking my MotoG2015 as its doing fine despite of facing so many RAINS
if at all, i want to change my phone.. i would never buy a phone without IPXX ratings , i want a phone which can be used even in rain
if Moto has launched any G4 series with it, i would have bought them.. but sadly they lost me this year
... so expecting that they do for g5 , else i should have to look at other brands ,
finally, i would choose IPXX rated phones, not others even though if they perform excellent
I am still happy with my rooted stock G3. Although IPXX phones are becoming more common. some of my other favorite features are hard to come by such as FM radio and a 5" screen. It seems most new phones are becoming increasing large.
