Good question. The way Gorilla Glass 2 is advertised would make it seem like it's not easily scratch or damaged. Due to the countless people reporting how easy the front and back of the Nexus 4 is to scratch (sometimes randomly), the Gorilla Glass isn't really doing what it claims lol...
either way, better safe than sorry >_>
It's scratch resistant, not scratch proof
Scratch resistant doesn't mean scratch proof. Any type of sand or non-skin dust in your pocket will severely scratch the device.
Ironically I was watching this Youtube Vid just before I saw this thread.

Lol...
If "non skin dust" in your pocket severely scratches your phone you must be furiously rubbing the front of your pants.
I bought an XO skin for mine but never applied it as I have found the screen to still be in wonderful condition after all of these months. I did baby the phone for a bit but after a while it didn't matter... I have accidentally dropped it twice two from my desk onto hard floor and it hasn't suffered.
Maybe if I drop it a third time I might not be so lucky =P.
Either way, the glass has remained intact with no scratches so I am happy.
After the first day of my 2nd nexus 4 I saw a bunch of scratches on the bottom of the screen. Not happy. Got a bumper the day after.

You will need one because, stuff happens =[. Mine has 3 scratches. I'm guessing it happened in a random pocket in a random jacket of mine. They bother me when I'm using my phone under a good amount of light, but usually I don't notice them. I just love how the screen feels without a screen protector. If you don't mind potentially getting scratches, then you won't need a screen protector.

Amen to that.
I swap and sell and change phones often, so the resale value is quite important to me. Therefore I always use a screen protector as scratches lessen the value of the device
No screen protectors here and no scratches. I am careful with my phones though
I haven't had a screen protector on my Nexus 4 since day 1 in November. No scratches.

cause a bumper will protect your screen from scratches..... D'uh!
Can any one confirm that the back of the phone is Gorilla glass?
I've had my phone since December and the front glass is still scratch free but the back has a couple of 1cm scratches on it and seemed a lot more prone to getting marked than the front. So, I've stuck a dbrand skin on it which protects the back and makes my phone look pretty cool!

I've only had my Nexus 4 for a week, and I took it with me to the beach for spring break - sand scratched the s**t out of my screen on the first day. Ordered some wet screen protectors, hopefully that'll help!

There are a few screen protectors that feel the same as the glass so why not...
So my OPO arrives tomorrow, but the screen protectors I ordered won't arrive until sometime next week. My question is, should I wait to receive the screen protectors to use it or should I just use it like normal without a screen protector? Any feedback is appreciated!

I'm using without a screen protector. It states to be Gorilla Glass, so I don't think it's necessary. But that's my own opinion.

It's just like any other modern smartphone with Gorilla glass. Some users prefer screen protectors, some (including me) don't use anything. Up to you to decide.

Even Gorilla Glass can get scratched, like sand for instance will do a number on it. All depends on how careful or unlucky you are. My Note 2, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, OPPO Find 7A and OPO are all/were naked and none of them had a scratch on them. I'm also very careful in how I handle and pocket my phones.

I have a microfiber cloth that came with a laptop a few years ago so it's relatively large, maybe 6" X 6" and when I pocket the phone I wrap the cloth around it. I also NEVER put anything else in my left front pocket, money, credit cards, car key, etc. so I minimize the risk of getting dirt or grit in my pocket to scratch the phone, front or back. If it's that big of a deal then get one of the glass screen protectors and bumper case, that should ease your mind.

use a screen protector if it's only from being in your pocket, how about using a flip cover? I bought one with my One, and they are really high qualitiy, especially for that price!
I live in Florida and I have never used a screen protector on any phone starting with the OG Moto Droid.
I go to the beach all the time and I have never had one scratch on any of my phones. I am super careful with them.
I'm using the Orzly glass screen protector from Amazon and absolutely love it. My phones always have glass protectors and always sell well when I get bored.

I never used one in my life. It looks like crap.
I don't use screen protectors and never get scratches. Partly because I don't like the loss of ANY touch sensitivity and I really suck at installing them and it drives me NUTS if there's a piece of dust under the protector.
I would go with Tempered Glass 9H protectors. Every phone should have a screen protector in my opinion. Even Saphire displays are defenseless to fine grains in your pocket.

You sound exactly like my friend, even he has a microfiber cloth in his pocket all the time. Personally I don't like the feel of touch with the screen guard on, but I regret it as I broke few screens may be now I will start using one.

It feels so nice in your hands... I really don't think there is any need for a case or a screen protector, unless you're really using your phone in extreme conditions. Just my 2 cents.

There are so many drop tests on the youtube of the Note 4. The thing looks pretty indestructible. I mean sure you'll get a scratch, but I would still rather get scuffs and scratches and enjoy using it naked. Food for thought! Of course it hurts resale value, no doubt.
never been a case person although I always use tempered glass on the front. I would however be interested in a slickwrap for the note but I can't find em anywhere. I just love the carbon fibre feel.
I just put this on my iphone

Totally agree! Screen protection seems like a waste to me with gorilla glass 3, maybe even down grading due to loss of clearness.
My Galaxy S3 doesn't have a scratch on it after 3 years and I never used a screen protector.
I use a leather pouch and run the phone in hand naked!
That said I'm super good with phones and many people need the protection, I get that.
I put my phone inside a cloth pouch with velco that my wife made. I read putting in on a case with get metal chaffing on the side after a while.
I am a careful person. When I take out my phone, I always check what floor (hard or soft) I am on, believe it or not.
My biggest concern would be putting the phone on the table as the camera is raised.
Using only a fit leather pouch for carrying around, phone itself is naked and without a screen protector. I dont really care about the resale value dropping if i get some tiny scratches since the value in 2 years will be less than 1/3 anyway. Its a phone not my house after all.
I've said this before elsewhere, but it's really easy to replace the frame of the phone if you get nicks around the side or scratches on the camera glass.
Just need to buy a replacement frame online and unscrew a few screws. Frames will probably be around $10-15, so if you don't think you'll drop your phone, there's no real need to get a case.
2 years have a cash long time to never drop a phone. You keep your phone with you almost all the time and frequently pull it out of your pocket. You use it when you're drunk and dead tired. You use it when you're woken up in the middle of the night. For at least one year (for most people). Probably 2 years. That's a very long time to just assume you won't drop it because your lifestyle isn't "extreme".
I've had my Galaxy s3 for over two years. I dropped it once. Onto concrete from six feet off the ground. I'm very careful with my phone, but I'm glad I had a case that night.
Just like driving... no matter how careful YOU are, it's not always you that causes the accident.
All it takes is a stray elbow or someone not paying attention to cause a major issue.
I applied a glass screen protector and put it in a slim case before I even turn it on for the first time. I switched from my trusty S4, which I've had in a case since day 1 and I only used it naked when I got the notification that my Note 4 has been dispatched. I just can't feel safe enough without body and screen protection!!
Well i drink to much and belive it or not ihave never droped my phone [emoji6]

I am using everything naked except the camera lens. I cut out glossy screen protector plastic and put that over lens. I had lots of scratches in lens of S2. In Note 1, flip cover raised and didn't have to protect lens. I had used similar protection in N3 too.
Note 4
I just put on a skinomi full body protector. There is a small protection for the camera (similar to the film that was on it when you take it out of the box). So the back and sides are sticky. The top part will attract lint since I put that part in my pocket first. Just waiting for the xtremeguard glass protector to come in and I'm all set. Now just look for a good heavy duty case for the times I may need it.
Hello, as I assume most people have noticed, Huawei includes just as sony a screen protector, the question is is it really necessary ? Mate 7 is having gorilla glass 3, but even though it has gorilla glass 3 I have noticed the actual ability to stand drops to the ground is extremely different. It seem that these phones which have the whole front covered in glass just like Mate 7 are a lot more likely to crash, and more sensitive, I did experience this with my Lg G2 lately, samsung devices are better in this regard. I have seen non drop tests yet but because that the metall frame around it is very thin , I think it is more likely that when you drop the phone it will hit the glass.
The biggest irritation with the included protector I have noticed is that finger prints gets stuck very easily on the device, which make it look unclean very fast and you have to clean it often. One other thing is how does the screen protector affect image quality, have any one take it of so they can tell us if the difference is big or small ?
I am waiting for reports, how durable the glass is, I noticed for instance that LG G2 which I had before did get scratches on the glass VERY easily, which made me wonder if really had gorilla glass or not, while with my Old Galaxy note scratches was never a problem...
I will probably sell my device in mid 2015 waiting for the summer/autumn models or even spring.. I do not want ot destroy the second hand value by having scratches on the screen... but there is really no reports yet about how durable the phone is..
I never put a screen protector on gorilla glass. It will become dirty looking soon. Furthermore screen protector doesn't protect your screen from breaking, if it falls down. I had no scratches on my sgs2 after using for 3 years.

After reading some user manage to bend the phone I am now more worried about bending the phone then break the glass.
I have not decide yet what to do, I have decided atleast that I have to remove the original screen protector, it attach fingerprints way too easy..a real magnet for finger prints.
Regarding buying a new screen protector I am sceptical.. I have heard good things about panzerglass ? (from denmark)
I am just worried how it will affect image quality and feel/response of the digitizer.

Doesn't exist such thing man ..
First you have to realise why you making fingerprints and why scratches are made.. You fingers are CONSTANTLY wet bcos skin is obviously breathing.. secondly you will make scratch in metal easily .. so glass is very easy to scratch .. sapphire glass has diamond layer .. that means diamont is very robust, strong , but brittle.. when you drop it it cracks IF it's thin ..
If you want screen protector and not to see fingerprints , there is solution BUT screen won't be clear but matt .. here

Ive noticed something odd with my mate 7, I have purchased 4 different tempered glass screen protectors and every single one has not properly attached itself on the botton left hand corner. This leads me to believe that the phone screen isnt completely flat. I thonk its possible the phone has bent ever so slightly which makes applying a rigid glass protector impossible. Anyone else had similar?

Mine looks "straight" but you never know it might be hard to see if it has been bent very slightly...
Obviouisly this with bending phones has become a bigger problem I guess in the last 2 years since the phones are getting bigger... that made me think of th LG G Flex, which in this context seem very superior and impressive, since it was impossible to make it change the curve, even if you sit on it..should be possible to do the same techonolgy to make it be straight instead of bent ?
Just an update on this...I noticed this morning when the ceiling strip light was reflecting on my screen that it is actually rippled at the top (around speaker) and bottom left
I presume this is a manufacturing defect as I didnt think you could bend gorillas glass?
Think I may contact the seller. Can anyone else confirm their screen is warped?
My screen is completely flat and the Nilkin tempered glass protector fits perfect, without a single bubble. But i've tried two others, too, believe me, the protector you've bought is a bad one. You find a link in my post on pg 1.
I have now removed the original plastic film screen protector.. it looks better without it for sure..
I have not decided yet if I should buy a glass protector yet..
I wonder have any one done the deep reserach, I hear many recommendations but it is hard to decide if I do not know if the person have done proper research of the the best on the market right now..

At the moment, no phone screen will stay 100% smooth and it will always has scratches all over the screen (at least the ones that are only visible on certain lighting condition) even when you're taking good care at it. I've been using phones without screen protector/cases for years and the only problem really is when the oleophobic coating wear off.

From my understanding, it is only scratched when something with a higher hardness rating scratches it. If you're careful with your phone, in theory it shouldn't have scratches right?
And normally how long do you feel that the oleophobic coating lasts?

Yes that is true and it includes those tiny sands that are present everywhere and even comes with the winds. No smartphone will be scratchless on screen for a day without screen protector when you're using it normally. You just don't see it. If you do not want scratches on your phone screen, use a protector because it will always scratch unless you keep it in a sealed box.
I ordered the IQ shield wet application screen protector. Used it on my s9 plus and pixel 2 xl and it looks and feels great
I have been using the following product for the last 3 phones with success. For everyday use, I have not noticed any scratches on my family's phones such S8+, S9, and OP6. I have no clue how this liquid stuff bond with the glass but it's more than placebo. There have been times when I forgot about change in my pocket or keys in the same pocket as phone-Did not get any scratches on the phone. Although, the product claims to bond with glass for a long time, in my experience, you need another coat every 6-8 months.

I used the pre-applied screen protector out of the box for about 2 weeks and I found it pretty good especially because it fitted just perfectly on the screen. But I removed it since I don't like screen protectors that much.
Just got OP6 two days ago. I usually go naked and never a scratch, but this weekend i'm going on a bit of an adventure on the sea, after that protector is going right off.

I love the super easy installation and no hassle of dealing with bubbles after it dries out completely. My friends think that I don't use a screen protector, it looks and feels like there is nothing on the screen.

I ordered it and I'll let you know how it works once it arrives. Thanks for the suggestion!!
I've never used a screen protector and have never had visible scratches on the screen. I have a habit of always putting my phone in my right pocket on its own so there is nothing to scratch it.
