Depending on what phone your using can you get into recovery mode? If I knew what device your using, I could tell you how. You have to flash a "gapps" .zip to use the google play app. If you can't get into recovery mode at all, you have to reflash a stock ROM through your computer, like you did with cyanogenmod.
What were the "different things" you did, that caused it to brick and give you the dotted lines?

Sorry to not tell you what phone i had,
Its a samsung Xcover 2.
My friend gave me the list of things we did:
1. Flashed a root file to get root access | All fine
2. Checked root access | All worked
3. Flashed CWM recovery | All fine
4. In CWM, we flashed Cyanogenmod | Not fine
5. After, we factory resetted | All worked (CM)
6. We flashed gapps | All fine
7. CWM was stuck in a bootloop, eventually the screen turned to green dots
8. Phone won't go into any mode, with a black screen.

Phone won't respond either to any button pressing combos,
won't show up in list of attached devices and neither on adb with the "adb devices" command.
Now phone boots every so often with the coloured dotted lines.

Someone?
I really just want to use my phone, it doens't matter for me anymore if it's rooted or not.

Please, i just want to use my phone...

I had something similar happen with my nexus 4, but it wouldn't boot up in any way, not even the colored lines. If your computer stops recognizong the device, its usually a hard brick, and it's not fixable. But some people have luck, so did you do the factory reset before, or after flashing cyanogenmod?

After CM

That could be your problem, your supposed to wipe BEFORE you flash any new ROMs, or gapps packages. Flashing the root package, CM, and gapps package, THEN wiping, may have caused a "hard brick". Someone with more experience with this would be able to to tell you for sure, but if it's a true hard brick, your only option is JTAG, or getting a new phone. Unless you can boot into recovery, or use adb with your computer, there isn't really a fix for it.

Can you help me find a more experienced person?

Look up the phone you have, and post this question in the help and troubleshooting section underneath the specific phone your using, and you'll probably get better answers. Sorry I couldnt be more help. /:

So I'm a noob to all this rooting biz, but had done tons of jailbreaks so thought this would be similar. It's not!
I rooted my phone (Samsung Infuse) and was going to flash MIUI on it. It wouldn't work, so I gave up and went to the 'Download Roms' or whatever section in Clockworkmod and thought all of those would work for my phone.. So I tried downloaded Darky rom, and once it downloaded and flashed, the phone is now stuck on
'Galaxy S'
GT-19000
Samsung
When I take the battery out and go to do a reboot or hard reset, it shows the reg samsung logo for a second then glitches to that galaxy s **** and it doesn't work. I can't even get it into recovery mode!
I have a Mac and I don't know what to do. Please help me asap. I just got this phone 3 days ago. And if I can't fix this myself, will my insurance/30-day return still be valid or will this **** up my warrantee?

I believe so. It's what everybody uses when they mess something up. I'm in windows. But a lot of here use mac too. Just try it out. Follow the directions closely, and you'll get you phone back to stock.

It WILL work if you do it right. And no because rooting your device or flashing roms voids your warranty.

I believe that after it has done its thing, the phone should have rebooted into recovery mode and showing an option to delete all user data or factory reset. If not, try manually going into recovery mode:
1. Turn off phone.
2. Hold down both up and down volume keys and the power key.
3. Let go of the POWER key when you see the samsung logo pop up. (keep holding the volume keys until it boots into recovery)
4. Now go down to where it says delete all user data or maybe it says factory reset. Something along those lines. Let it do its thing and then
5. Reboot system.
After doing so, you will lose root and all of data. Re-root, add the custom recovery. And READ READ READ. The only roms you can flash from recovery mode is gtg's roms. So check out all roms in the development section here. Read the differences and flash away
I'm currently on miui and I'm loving it because it's very customizable. But battery life sucks on it.

Its because darkys rom is for i9000 and that is i9000 boot screen your looking at...do not try to flash anything for infuse off of rom manager...use infuse development thread.....you should be able to hold vol u vol down(at the same time) and power for about ten seconds and that will put you back into recovery....then if you are in green cwm go to mounts and storage...mount usb drive....and you can download a rom from our thread and put it on your sd card without having to reboot....wipe everything and flash rom that you downloaded...if you have red cwm...go to apply update zip..choose it...and flash it...now u have green recovery...hope that helped..

[Q] Unroot Verizon Galaxy S3

Hello all,
I recently rooted my Galaxy S3 only to have my Mic fail on me 2 weeks later... Very dissatisfied with my Samsung about that - even though I am loving the phone. Anyways, back to the issue. Verizon has agreed to send me a replacement and I have to send them mine back. The problem is that I know that if I send them a rooted phone they will not honor the warranty, and I am having a very hard time flashing the Verizon Stock rom.
More specifically, and to see if I am doing anything wrong.. I used ODIN to flash a custom rooted rom onto my phone which worked perfectly, and now I am once again trying to use ODIN in order to flash the stock rom which I downloaded from goo.im - the file that I am using is HOME_I535VRALF2_I535VZWALF2_618049_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Simple steps - reboot into downloading mode -> check auto-reboot and reset time on ODIN and choose the file above under PDA. All works fine, the phone reboots and I get a PASS, and yet my phone is stuck on the Verizon 4G loading intro. I think that's what they call a soft brick.
The first time this happened, I flashed a different rom and the phone loaded properly but it had the open lock symbol under Samsung which I think means that it was unlocked.. Either way, it was not the unrooted and official stock rom which is what I need on my phone in order to keep my warranty. The file that DOES work is COMBINATION_I535VRBLJ1_I535VZWBLJ1_381038_REV09_user_low_ship(NO_WIPE).tar.md5
I have followed the above steps over and over again and I always get the same result - stock doesn't work, the other one does.
Any ideas? What could the issue be?

Personally I would try the files found in section 5 of this thread.
According to Droidstyles guide before his recent edits, if it freezes on the boot logo after a successful Odin factory flash then you're supposed to pull the battery, boot into recovery, and do a factory reset. Try that.

Yes this works, also had this happen to me, and to boot to recovery just hold home+volume up+power button. It should work.

You should probably factory reset after flashing, for you don't want to be running a buggy phone.

Use a full wipe version and this would not happen...part of the reason why i removed nowipe versions such as f2. But yes as slimsnoop said, data wipe /factory reset will fix that.

Follow section 5 of Droidstyle's (the guy above you) guide. Click the link in his signature. I'm not sure about how this handles modified network configuration though, that's not something I remotely know anything about.
I thought there was a way to bypass the activation screen? On older phones, you could tap the four corners of the screen or something like that? Anyone ever heard that before?

[Q] Bricked??

i recently tried to install jellybean but the rom did not work on nexus s, i stupidly removed the only working rom from my 'sd' card and now my phone only boots into a black screen, i have tried to put a known working rom on my phone but every pc i try to connect my phone to says the device has malfunctioned and windows cannot install software. i have tried to use adb but that also cannot find my device. am i looking at getting another nexus with a broken screen and using my working screen to gain a decent phone back or am i missing a vital programme that will fix my utter cockup? thanks in advance
Are you familiar with adb? Because unless you have the right drivers, you phone won't be recognized. Also, usually your computer won't notify you when you're connected and able to use adb, you have to start the interaction through cmd.exe. this being said, try adb again to move a rom or backup into your device.
Also, can you boot into fastboot? If so, is there a warning message or anything?

Fast boot is when you phone is off, you turn it on by pressing volume up+power at the same time. Let me know if there is a warning text in red at the top.
Do you know how to flash factory images? Because you may be able to do that to get a stock os on your phone. It would wipe everything, however. Flashing a factory image doesn't require you to open SD storage. I'd link you to the thread with the tutorial, but I'm on mobile :/ ill post it if i get a chance, i know its floating around in the nexus s android forums

my laptop does not recognise the phone so i dont know how to flash a factory image. this is the cmd sequence i get
adb shell

tried mounting sd card and data but no joy
also tried mounting usb storage.
all i get is device has malfunctioned and will not run
tried downloading google usb drivers and samsung drivers all to no avail.
fingers crossed you can tell me something i dont know as i really cant afford to buy a new phone
Well it seems you sdcard isn't dead, which is good! When mine was, fastboot gave me an error.
Now IMO, you should be able to flash a stock recovery image. This will clear everything you have on ur phone, but it should get it back to working condition.
Ill post a tutorial on how to do it tomorrow, that's the soonest i can get on a computer. It is not that hard, and it helps when you're already somewhat familiar with adb. I used to be a noob too, now I'm slightly less noobish!
So as i said, i think i have a solution, ill post how tomorrow, when i have a PC (in on mobile right now).

Alright, so this is the guide to install a factory image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572307
What a factory image will do, is restore your phone completely to a new like state. That being said, you will lose anything you have on the phone (picture, music, etc..). I don't know of any other way to help, so if you're willing to lose everything, but get your phone working, continue reading.
-First, you have to determine what model on Nexus S you have. If you're on AT&T or Rogers, you have an I9020A, and you have to download the "sojua" factory image. If you're on T-mobile, or have the version with an S-LCD display (as opposed to the normal AMOLED), you have to flash the "soju" factory image. If you're not sure what version you have, let me know what carrier you're with.
-Second, download the Factory image corresponding to your phone from the link I posted, as for version, that's up to you, but I recommend 4.1.2 (JB).
-Third, Make sure you have all the right drivers, and the android-sdk installed. You should already have this, since you've use adb before.
-Fourth, follow steps 1,2,3 and 4A in the link I posted above.
Follow these instruction, and if you do not understand them before doing the procedure, just ask a question here! good luck!
