[Q] Wifi at home issue

Hi Everyone.
I am not a developer nor really tech savy, but I do know how to adjust a few things. Anyways, I just got my Infuse 4G, loving it so far except at my home. I have really fast internet connection and my router is new and is Cisco. My laptop, desktop and tablet all work really well. My infuse though will connect and tells me that it has a really strong wifi connection, but I can't open anything for **** such as a browser or market app. It works fine at work and at any att wifi hot spots.
Can anyone advice me on this? Sometimes though, it works fine but about 85 % of the time at home, I can't open any internet connection although it says that I am connected to wifi.
I am about 5 days close to returning this if this problem can't be resolved.
Any help will be really and greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Probably your router. If it's Linksys-branded Cisco of the "saucer" form factor - find something better. Linksys-branded Cisco hardware sucks these days.
I suggest finding a router that is supported by DD-WRT - I have always been disappointed when running routers with closed-source factory firmware.

I would think that if it works well at work and att hot spots that this would point to ot being an issue with the home router.
Have you tried resetting the router?

resetting meaning turning it off and wait for a few minutes and turning it back on?
No, but if that was the case, my other devices shouldn't work neither no?

Some routers are buggy and don't play well with some devices.
90% of the time it's the router's fault.

In setting make sure you have checked the option : Notify me when open network available
So if you wi fi goes does it will disconnect but will reconnect once it is back again.
Hit Thanks if this helped

I'm not saying the wifi signal goes away... But the internet becomes dead... The wifi signal remains as it is... So I want something which will disconnect wifi when there is no Internet on the router and reconnect it when there is active Internet. hope you can understand

I've had very similar problems with my device (Sony Xperia S) and in the end, it turned out to be my Router that was causing the problem! I've had to force my router onto 'g-only' Wi-Fi to get it to be stable, now my device stays connected all the time, and also connects everytime.
I'm not saying that is what your problem is, it could be any number of things. But without more information it's impossible to tell. My logic is, that you should make it as 'easy' as possible for the device to connect to the router by checking it's wireless speed compatibility and considering forcing it to a set speed so that all your devices connect ok. Like if your router (like mine) is not n-certified, then it means it can 'possibly' run at n-speeds but is not garaunteed to do so. So, in that case, it's wise to maybe consider changing it to one of it's certified speeds.
Of course there are many other things you can consider looking at too, like trying to change the wireless 'ping' timeout on the phone to be more frequent, which uses more battery, but can keep connections alive.
Also make sure that the device is set to 'keep wifi alive' when it goes into standby.
I'm still new to Android, but I hope that at least helps a little.
It's not the problem of the phone or the router... It's the problem of the internet service provider... From his side the internet gets disconnected... So sometimes as I'm on wifi... Phone does not get Internet from wifi nor it gets from GPRS... So I want some app where when wifi is not having Internet Phone gets the internet from GPRS.. I don't know whether it is possible or not

[Q] Disabling internet on phone but accessing on laptop through tethering wifi

Is it possible to disable internet on phone but access on laptop through tethering wifi which might increase internet speed on laptop?
Your question is phrased a little weird but if I'm understanding correctly, you want to know if mobile data can be turned off and you still being able to use wireless tethering onto your laptop?
If so, no you cannot. You can't share internet that isn't on. That's like trying to play a Blu Ray on your tv with your Blu Ray player turned off.

^what he said. Not possible.

Thanks for the reply guys.
Let me make my question more clear.
On my phone
Internet should not be accessible. No application on the phone should use the data.
On my Laptop
Internet should be accessible through wifi tethering.
Why I want it
I believe, while wifi tethering is active, internet data is usage done by the phone as well as the laptop.
But if we stop giving internet data to phone, it can increase the speed of the internet for laptop.
Ultimately, it will provide good internet speed on the laptop.
I hope the above lines makes my idea more clear to you guys. Thanks.

[Resolved] Weird Internet Problem

Hi,
This is a weird Internet problem so I think this is the best place for this.
I have a 1Mbps broadband connection with a Modem+Router.
Now I get download speeds upto 120-130KBps on my PC (connected via LAN), my laptop (via Wifi) and my phone, the Galaxy S2 I9100 (via Wifi again) and my sister's Galaxy S3.
I get smooth surfing speeds with normal loading pages on my PC & Lappy.
The problem is that surfing speed on my and my sister's phone is extremely slow. Be it the Facebook app, Tapatalk app, normal pages in the Stock Browser, Opera Mini, anything.
Everything is slow as a snail.
No background downloads, cloud backups or any network hogging resources run in the background.
Both phones are stock, unrooted, untouched, JB 4.1.2, so no ROM troubles.
Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem might be?
Because it is really weird that download speeds are fine but surfing speeds suck so bad.
Also, if it might help, 3G works excellent on both devices.
And recently I factory resetted/formatted my phone, the S2.

Maybe your wireless connection is slow. Is there any downloading in background? Try disconnect one of your connected devices

That is a very slow connection.
But you need to troubleshoot it by first: make sure that you have a secure connection between your router and your devices.
So make sure your router is running wpa or wpa2 with a good key.
Next: you should disconnect each device and test network speeds to determine which device is the one causing the issue.
Then if that does nothing you should make sure that you are not too far from your router.
Because that would cause it to drop packets and slow down the transfer speed.
It might seem slow as per worldwide standards, but it actually is good enough to watch YouTube videos at 360p without buffering
Also this is a recent problem and before this everything worked absolutely well.
The security is set as WPA/WPA2.
I've tried sitting next to the router, doesn't make a difference.
I'll check connecting each device one at a time though.

the internet browsing speed varies as per the connectivity over wifi... if ur signal level is poor the speed will be much slower than u connection speed.. so check ur wifi range ....

Well I tried the individual connection as well. And the problem persists on both the S2 & S3.
The laptop works just fine. But the surfing on the phones is really bad! While surprisingly downloading or buffering a video is fine.
This is so weird!
I open the Youtube app and it opens slow as hell, loads thumbnails in years then I click a video it takes more time to load but then plays without a hiccup on HQ..

Next up is to try a different router or a neighbor's setup to determine if there is an issue with the antenna (or software) between your router and phones.

This will take some time since finding another router is tough around here.
I'll try to find another wifi to connect to.
If I make a wifi hotspot on the S3 and connect my S2 to it, will it be a suitable way to test?

yep.
If it works fine then the router is the issue. (Ping tests)
If it doesn't work fine then you need another router to test.

Wifi is weird(it always has been) on all the samsung roms.
Like a user once reported that he sees constant transfer on his phone at his home network but not at work and he even used droidwall to block all connections.
I don't know about that. This problem has occurred only once before and lasted 2-4 days, then automatically resolved. This time it's been almost a week.
Apart from these 10 or so days, I have never had an issue with Wifi.
Also I tried browsing on a wifi hotspot by making S3 a hotspot and using on S2 and vice versa, both worked great.
So it's definitely some issue with the router. But I cannot call someone to replace it because my laptop works just perfect on it's wifi!
So maybe some settings have been altered or messed with?
I can get you some screenshots of the modem interface page that my network provider gives.
This solved my problem.
Linking so that someone else with this annoyingly stupid problem can find a solution too!

One person got it connected on to his ps4
Another got it working on his ps3...
If anyone knows how please let me know asap!
Yes I am rooted, I have T-Mobile Nexus 5.
