Seriously? Use the search feature. Search for "error 99" within the Facepalm thread and you'll get literally dozens of results where it explains what you need to do.

first i use this solution :
There's your problem, you need error 92. When you get error 99 you need to force a reboot to bootloader by holding volume down and power then start again (without the adb reboot bootloader command because you're already in bootloader). Now you should get error 92.
and it's not work:crying::crying::crying::crying:
and i use this way :
Ok folks thanks to c5satelite and other helpful folks at S OFF PARTY AND IRC we figured out how to fix this whole "error 99" shenanigans.
Step 1. Download the latest stockish ROM (I used Viper 3.2.3)
Step 2. Boot into bootloader and fastboot flash the kernel.. then reboot back into recovery
Step 3. Wipe /system and factory reset in TWRP
Step 4. Install rom in TWRP
Step 5. For *Viper Only* Don't wipe in Aroma, and uncheck reboot at the end.
Step 6. Reboot into bootloader from recovery (Don't boot into the ROM)
Step 7. Follow the instructions in the OP to a T ... read reread.. go get some coffee.. and try again.. hopefully you see Error 92 and not 99
This worked for me with ViperROM on hboot 2.14
Thank you to all the folks involved you guys are rockstars from Mars!
and it's not work:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:
please any help
still erorr 99 << to many links >>

Code:
fastboot oem readcid

SuperCID will stay. You'll just need to flash recovery again, and then either flash superuser to stay stock rooted, or flash a custom ROM.

Yea thats what I always thought, was just bein sarcastic.. So for the sake of the thread and the O.P. To retain root you would have to flash recovery after running the RUU correct? Because the gentleman that I was originally responding to stated that theres no need to flash recovery, that the RUU does this for us...
Yes you need to flash TWRP again after you run an RUU. The RUU only flashes the stock recovery.

Ya I used that one click tool for XL to get the recovery..now on to further questions instead of making a new thread i decided to reuse this one.. anyways after I got through all that i decided to go ahead and flash some custom roms and ended up with the same results when ever someone sends me pics or videos through text, they will download fine until i connect to a wifi, then i get an error saying "couldn't download now, please try again later. Even when I disconnect from the wifi i get the same error and sometimes will not even get data untill I wipe and re flash but everything works fine with the stock rom.. what could cause this i have tried messing with the data options in settings and nothing works. rom's I have used are
Root box
slim bean
xylon
all of them have acted that same and all use the 3.4 kernel. so I'm stuck on stock until i can figure out whats going on :crying: so any help is greatly appreciated :good:
I've never used WiFi with those ROMs so I'm not sure. But are you sure your apn settings are correct? Also, have you tried toggling airplane mode on and off after disconnecting from WiFi?
Sent from my Evita
Ya tried the apn settings and no go also airplane mode toggle will bring back 4g most of the time but still can't download any mms messages
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Faults like this are usually caused by incorrect apn settings but I could be wrong.
Sent from my Evita
Is this on AT&T or a different carrier?
Am I reading correctly, WiFi data works in general, mobile data works in general, just mms is not working?
Yes wifi data and mobile data work but mms won't download with either on custom roms only but will work fine on stock

Yep , I tried through htcdev.com but it failed (error 106 or error 16 , I don't remember) . All in one tool kit also failed (newest version of AIO, 7/2013) .My fone is new one
I'm dont know how it has hboot 2.14. But, I can't update via OTA (I think it needs AT&T account that I dont have, because I'm outside US) then I tried to update by Rom installer on HTC.com ( 3/2013, AT&T annouced Htc one X can be update to Jelly Bean, and it provides me an official link on HTC.com) but also failed.
Where did you purchase the phone? The info you've provided suggest that it's not new.

Ok this guy ^^^ is right.
1) Download the all-in-one kit by hasoon2000 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952426
2) Make sure you have the correct HTC drivers installed.
3) Open the toolkit and run step 2b. Motochopper (3.18). Keep in mind you need USB debugging mode on and the fast boot option in your phone's settings off.
4) Run the Get Token ID step in the toolkit.
5) Copy your ID from the command prompt and then go to htcdev.com, register, and then follow the steps provided by HTC to unlock your bootloader.
Pretty straightforward but sometimes it just helps when someone spells it out for you.

Is there a reason you wanna root the phone? Or you just doing it because it can be done? It's really a simple process. I'd read more before trying, the answers u have been given are more than is even needed to get it done. Some people really shouldn't root their device. That's why they come locked. So people without the knowledge or skill set dont trash the phone. If you read redpoints tutorial it has everything you need. He spent a lot of time making it so newbs could get it done without being spoon fed. Read it twice, and by read I don't mean skim looking for the section u think you need. And if you are still unsure read it again. It's crazy the amount of people who ask the same questions over and over again because reading and learning on your own is too time consuming.
Ok I'm better after venting a little lol
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
If the phone is refurbished (which most probably is, like mine when was replaced due to a cracked screen), the bootloader cannot get unlocked. I have this as an official HTC reply. The reason is there is a mismatch between the phone's IMEI and serial number of the device and their serverscannot cope with that, resulting in the wrong token being generated

Not rooted properly?

I've been reading so much my eyes are square and can't seem to find anything that helps me out. Some of the solutions to similar problems aren't working for me and so I figured I'd ask the community. You've been so helpful in the past! Even if you can point me in the right direction...
So, I have the HTC One X (AT&T type one even though it's with Telus) and I've gone through the steps in the past to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP and have been able to flash custom Rom's, and when in my bootloader screen, it says the following:
*****Tampered*****
*****Unlocked*****
Evita PVT Ship S-on RL
Hboot-2.14.0000
Radio-0.23a.32.09.29
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.0815
eMMCboot
Nov 26 2012, 18:37:14:-1
(I have TWRP v2.3.3.1)
Now, I'm wanting to S-Off and get Super CID but I keep getting errors when I try any of the different ways in the forums.
I've tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672284 but I keep getting an error message right at the very beginning.
Basically, I want to S-off so that I can downgrade my touchscreen so I can install some of the other ROM's out there. I've just been doing it by installing the zip and then flashing the boot img.
What am I missing? I feel like somewhere along the way I've missed something that is preventing me from getting S-off and Super CID.
(Please don't flame me!! I have been trying everything I find and can't seem to figure it out. I promise I'm not a noob that hasn't bothered reading! I've been reading and trying for about 10 days so far trying to get this)
Thank you in advance for any help!!

It's stuck at this point ..
I don't know how did you try but you should try that way:
1.) make sure htc sync is uninstalled
2.) make sure adb and fastboot drivers are working.
3.) if you are having problems with fastboot, try a usb 2.0 port
4.) make sure other programs that interfere with and fastboot are uninstalled (PDANet, Kies, etc.)
5.) if you use a third party firewall, be sure to grant access to distiller.exe as it checks for updates
6.) YOU MUST UNZIP THE ARCHIVE BEFORE RUNNING DISTILLER. DO NOT JUST TRY TO RUN IT FROM THE ARCHIVE.
These are not my instructions, i just quote for you from @Fuses 's thread

There are a few more things at moonshine.io 's instructions:
1- you should have htc drivers installed (not htc sync)
2- enable usb debugging on your device
3- if you have fast boot option on your device (settings->battery->fast boot) disable it
4-and unlocked bootloader

I also did this. I tried to S-OFF with Viper 2.1. Maybe I should S-OFF with the original rum, which based on the latest update of tmob-de.?

Maybe you are right. Moonshine.io says that their software is not compitable with every rom. Also you can try anoter way to s-off i think. There is rumrunner which i didn't try before and there is facepalm that you can try

So you haven't got another choice than ruu back if you want s-off. But i think one can survive witout it, i mean you can still flash any rom other than sense 5 roms like you flashed viper

I've seen a lot of your other posts and if you can confirm you are unlocked and S-Off then I would recommend checking that you still have a custom recovery. If you do, then mount the SD card and move a Rom over (with GAPPS if you decide to use an AOSP Rom.) Flash the Rom and Flash GAPPS if needed. Follow the directions in the Rom of your choice if they differ from that.
Or
You could Run a RUU and start completely over. Don't forget to flash a custom recovery afterwards in bootloader mode and flash a root program (I recommend SuperSU) in recovery prior to booting the system.:

Just make sure you have an unlocked bootloader and S-Off prior to following any of these recommendations.

Please learn how to post properly to this forum. OP has appeared both here and in my PM, asking for help with 2 different issues and not supplying nearly enough info.
When posting a question, you need to state clearly:
- What you were trying to do (install a ROM, etc.) including what exact steps got you to the place you are at
- whether your phone is stock or modded (bootloader unlocked, rooted, S-on or S-off, etc.)
- what ROM you are on
- the info listed in the first 5 lines of hboot.
Asking for help with one vague sentence doesn't cut it. If you want help, we need details. Don't be lazy and just type vague one-sentence posts, unless you want the same in return.
Also, the question in the OP probably would have been easily answered by simply reading the Frequently Asked Questions sticky at the top of this forum section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136172
This ^^^
It's been said numerous times before though.

U guys are right and I'm sorry. I just read the link red. But I do have hboot 2.15 along with 3.18 firmware and twrp 2.6.3. I still can't flash aosp or aokp roms. I'm also supercid, s off with unlocked bootloader.

No worries. Just take a deep breath and slow down before you post, and if possible sit at a computer where you can type properly. Asking for help with one sentence posts, and not providing enough details isn't going to help anyone. You will inevitably just have to type later anyway when we start asking for the details (plus more back and forth, and more waiting for a response).
I'm not personally much of an AOSP user, so I can't specifically help. But I know timmaa (and others) are more versed in AOSP.
Exactly what error are you getting when attempting to install the ROMs? Are you using the official of modified TWRP?
Sent from my Evita
I am not using modded. The original 2.6.3
It's saying failed...and somethingabout 2.15 I'm not home right now but break at work.
chris
I can try and flash later and let u know
chris
You have to use the modded.
Sent from my Evita
Does it with that too
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
Either way you definitely need to be using the modified TWRP. You'll need to post the exact error you get on an attempted install here.
Sent from my Evita
Ok. Thanks.
