[Q] Help in restoring whatsapp Database folder - General Questions and Answers

I have recently switched to a new Custom ROM and in the process of doing it have lost the whatsapp DB folder and hence i cannot restore my old messages from whatsapp. Unfortunately i did not make a backup of the folders, have tried few of the data recovery folders but they were only able to restore images and docs but not the db file.
Could someone let me know if there is anyway we could recover the Whatsapp DB folder after it has been deleted.
Currently using
ROM: cyanogenMod 10.1

Recover deleted texts?

Is there any way to recover deleted texts? I accidentally deleted the wrong thread of messages.
Not unless you already had a backup of them...
A backup with an app, no. A copy of the database file right after I deleted them, yes. I see they're still there, just wanna know if there's a way to get them to be viewable again.
I really miss having a deleted items for texts like back in WM6
what format is the database file?
sqlite i think.
located here on all android phones:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
When you delete the thread, it still remains in this db?

[Q] WhatsApp: How to merge databases

Heya.
I have 2 whatsapp chat backup files in the format msgstore.db.crypt7 / 5.
If I install whatsapp with one of the files in the databases folder, it will ask if I want to import them and does it successfully.
But if I have 2 files in there, it just chooses one.
I can decrypt one of them since its the current one I am using and my phone is rooted, but the other one is old and from before the phone was rooted.
So the first one I can open with SQLite viewer, the second one I can't - so can't merge sqlite files.
I tried using WhatsApp Xtract but it seems its old and doesn't support crypt5/7 formats.
How can I accomplish this?
Thanks!

How to open backed up Whatsapp chat DB.crypt8

I accidentally deleted some important conversations from my Whatsapp on my Galaxy note 4 and iam trying to find out if its possible to restore them. I went to my root folder to whatsapp/databases and inside there are encrypted files, each one of several kb,of my conversations for example: msgstore.db.crypt8. I even sent these files to my email to have them available in the future. So my question is if its possible to open there files somehow? Thanks.

Click to collapse
Yes, but you first need to extract the key. See: WhatsApp Key/DB Extractor
Hi, can we decrypt a db.crypt8 file without a key?

Restore Squid (Papyrus) Notes from files

My phone recently died and I have to factory reset it. I managed to use TWRP to recover some of my data first which included the Squid files.
According to their website rooted users can backup the database file and the required pages but it doesn't mention restoring them. I've tried copying the files back to the Squid data folder but they don't show up. I've also tried editing a papyrus.bak file (it's a zip) and adding my database/pages but when trying to restore them using the app it says restore failed.
Any ideas how I can do this?
I've got slightly further now. I managed to get Squid to load the database file after copying the backed up files to the data file. When I load Squid it shows the correct number of notes but they're all blank.
Yay! I fixed it. Apart from one file but I'm happy with that. The database I was trying to restore was looking for one extra page which didn't copy across when I was wiping my phone. Loaded up SQLiteBrowser, removed the entry from there, inserted everything into the papyrus.bak file and it restored them. Yay
hello i have a problem i save my note from squid becfause i reinstalled my rom but when i want to restore papyrus.bak it say wait for restoring datyabase... but it don't restore i waited all the night and it stay in that message.... is there another way to restore my data thanks for the help...
its very not good becfause i writed my journal of what i do in the journay and so i lost 1 month of journal..... i'm sad.... but i have the cfomplete papyrus.bak file it make 66,7 mb when i open it in a text software there is lot of text but i don't know what it say xd
Did you make a manual backup of the papyrus.bak file? And that's not working when you try to restore it with Squid?
The papyrus.bak file is a zip file with a database and other files so you need to rename it to .zip if you want to open it.
Thank you very much i restored all with winrar i repaired the papyrus. Zip and with the .pages and root explorer i renamed the blank squid notes with the pages from the papyrus. Zip and i restored all my Diary its too cool and without you i never can do it thank you and have a good day!

WhatsApp not detecting local backup file

I needed to Factory Reset my android phone, so before I do that, I took a local backup of WhatsApp chats that is the msgstore.db.crypt12 files. I copied the whole "Databases" folder to my laptop. Then I did a Factory Reset on my phone. After that, I copied the latest msgstore file (after renaming it "msgstore.db.crypt12") to WhatsApp>Databases. After that, I reinstalled WhatsApp. But it only detects the old backup from Google Drive and not this local backup file when I tap OK on RESTORE screen. What am I doing wrong? (I had no idea about the key before today, so is this all now pointless if I don't have the key? I read somewhere that the WhatsApp servers also have the key. Is is true? Also, my phone is not rooted and I don't wanna root it.)
