Hi everyone,
I wanted to test the ART motor, so I put the option to ART but once reboot the option is back on Dalvik.
Anyone got a solution ?

Art = No Good yet
EVERYBODY is having problems with Art (Unless you're stock everything and Use only apps that are compatible with Art) Plus can't notice the speed improvements. Nexus 5 with Snap 800 is fast enough Art is meant for devices with lower specs.. i.e. Galaxy Nexus Use Delvik for now, Art is not worth the unstability. Plus, it's technically in beta
I wanted to try it for the battery improvement

Nonsense!
ART is not unstable. Just incompatible with some mods and apps.
It's noticeably faster than Dalvik.

ART is still work in progress atm by Google and a lot of apps are not yet optimized for ART. So for testing and trying its good but as in daily usage i would stick with Dalvik for now.

Is it noticeably faster? Smoother? Better battery etc to be worth even trying?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I have found ART to be noticeably faster in app scrolling and overall load times. Poorly coded apps that have known to lag since the beginning of time now are smooth as butter. When I switched back from ART to dalvik I became somewhat disappointed because I got used to the phenomenal speed of the N5 on ART. The device still fly's on dalvik but is faster on ART, no question. Stability has been fantastic as well.

I switched to ART a few days ago and its been blazing fast and no problems. I've had 1 game that doesn't work but its not a big deal. Its stable and I'm gonna use it everyday

There is a thread that is starting to list apps that don't like art. I'm a hardcore tib user and art breaks tib, so I stay away. Performance is better, here and there, but I find using the right kernel and rom will match art smoothness.
My combo right now is psx and Franco. Very nice.
I switched to ART and the back key wouldn't work and nor would SwiftKey keyboard, so that's me back on dvalik lol

Likewise. Running for a week now,had to find an ART optimised version of whatsapp, aside from that I've had no problems. Phone is quicker, especially scrolling, and especially xda premium app! Having said that, I run my phone with very few apps on it,so I'm less likely to meet bugs than average I guess.

What specifically did you have issues with on SwiftKey?
I'm on ART and the only problem I've run into is the same as on Dalvik, which is pressing space does not automatically insert the highlighted word without first typing a letter.

I would say yes, who knows what your screen brightness was at even though I am sure it was probably at auto. Talking on the phone can drain a lot of battery.
Why note 3 to nexus 5, seems odd?
Well you did talk on the phone for a while. But Google Search is draining the battery more than it should. I would just reboot and do another full charge. Google Search was draining my Nexus 7 the other day and the reboot/recharge seemed to have fixed it. For now anyway. Android OS/Google Search seems to be a recurring bug. Unless of course you were using google now a lot, in which case it would probably be normal.

I had the note 3 I just wasn't a big fan of the build quality and the Samsung over lay of it. I always loved the nexus 4 and when I used the neuxs 5 in person I fell in love with the design and how smooth it was. But the battery is starting to worry me. I'm on cataclysm rom with Franco kernel r22. I have WiFi on with the phone using 3g only. I barely use Google search. The phone calls werent that long either. I just feel like the battery is being drained way to fast for no reason. I keep most apps closed after I'm done using then. I had greenify on and I have the kernel set to 1.7ghz. I just don't know what to do with anymore.

After the reboot, it was laggy so he turned back to dalvik hoping that this would make the phone fast as new, but it didn't happen and the phone is laggy right now... How can he repair it? Thanks in advance
EDIT: he selected again dalvik and then the phone were again fast

art isnt meant to be used yet, its an experimental feature thats only in kit kat so that devs can develop for it. People need to stop reporting/complaining about ART bugs and wait for the finished product

Going through some threads it seems most dont experience any lag so im wondering what the problem could be in my case i sometimes notice slight lags when opening/closing app drawer, switching to quick settings, opening/closing apps (turned off animations so not really a problem now) and a few other instances is this normal? it got quite bad so i unrooted it and locked bootloader then unlocked and re-rooted and at the moment i am on stock rom, stock launcher and faux123 stable mainline 11 kernel

Doubt it's your kernel. I'm running stock and suffering as well :/ It could also be a defect, some run fine others don't. Same with the same speaker issue, some newer owners especially the red ones claim it sounds better as the old ones.

I did think about switching to ART but to be honest i dont want to lose anything in terms of stability but hopefully soon it will become part of an update so if lag is normal on dalvik now i dont mind waiting i just wanted to see if its normal or im doing something wrong

Installing updates from Play doesn`t make the phone laggy unless there is a problem with an app or some apps. Rebooting after installing updates clears most problems most of the time.

Hi guys, so I recently bought a nexus 5 I just got it like 5 days ago. My problem is that I have some lag problems. My phone lags when I play games like Dead trigger 2. I also have this game called Kritika, I don't know if you've heard of it, it's from Gamevil, and it lags pretty bad. So why is this? It's a Nexus 5, I shouldn't have problems with the Snapdragon 800 processor. I also seem to have a little stutter in fruit ninja. Is it just me or do I have a defective device. Or is there nothing wrong with it? Can someone please tell me whether I should send it back or not? Thank you.
Is it on stock? If no reflash stock then factory reset the device. Then load nothing else but the game. If it lags it hardware.

I would bet on thermal throttling like everyone else is saying. I noticed that although my Nexus 4 got absurdly hot with a raised thermal throttle, games ran better. That phone was a launch device and is used by my dad every day now without any lasting effects. I've done the same with my Nexus 5 with similar effect, although it doesn't seem to get as hot as my old phone. I would say that it's safe to do, and should get rid of the lag

Does your phone heat up while its lagging? If so, it would be because of thermal throttling like the other have mentioned (reducing CPU frequency so the phone can cool down)
You can flash a custom kernel and either remove thermal throttling or increase the amount of temperature of thermal throttling (so it will reduce CPU only at higher temperatures).

Yeah it does heat up while it's lagging, but the problem is that it doesn't take time to lag, it just starts lagging when I start the game up, not over time, so I was wondering if it was a hardware problem.
