[Q] LG G2's Feature: Knock off - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey anybody,
Is there a way to port the 'Knock-off' feature from the LG G2 to our N5?
I know, there is a 'Knock on'/DT2W feature, but no 'Knock-off'.
I tried the LG G2 for a few minutes and I love this feature! It would be great, if its possible on the N5!
Maybe a good developer can add this feature to a Kernel? Mostly liked on the Franco-Kernel!
Thanks in advance & Sorry for my bad English!

Please give the link to the Knock On apk.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app

I don't know if there is a apk for Knock-On feature?
I use Knock-On/DT2W (is the same, for me ) with the franco-kernel (there is a build, with dt2w, not from franco).
But I'm interested in the Knock-Off or DT2S (DoubleTap2Sleep ).
Apk or flashable zip or Xposed mod is wayne!

It's not an APK. You need to install a kernel that supports it like Franco or Faux123.

+1. I use dt2w a lot but having a dt2s (d tap to sleep) would be even better. For now though, I just use the sweep to sleep and wake so I don't really need to use the power button a lot.
The problem with how the G2 does the knock off is that it only works on the home screen. If you're in an app, then you cant turn it off.
EDIT: I'm wrong...you just double tap the notification bar.

I don't like sweep2sleep, i prefer the tap!
Also it uses a lot of battery! :'(
DT2W/DT2S would be great, in my opinion! But I won't change to the LG2 only for this feature :/
That you can turn off your device only on home screen makes sense.
Zoom in the Chrome App would be impossible, if the double tap shut off.
Only on home screen is good.
I tried the G2 (for a few minutes in a shop) and you can turn off the device with a double tap everywhere on the home screen.
If you are in an app, I don't know how it will react on a double tap - not tested

Nobody interested in this feature I asked for or is there an solution in another thread?
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk

Using chaoskernel.

Edit... im wrong

ChaosKernel has the feature integrated?
Can't find any information about D2TS/DoubleTap2Sleep.
I can only find some information about DT2W and Sweep2Wake & Sweep2Sleep but I'm not interested in the 'Sweep' Function!
I want to tap! Like on a G2.
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 5 mit Tapatalk

Sorry! No dt2s by chaos yet.

Knock on feature requires a modified kernel, not just an app.
Edit: You talk about knock off, not nock on.

Hi,
Anyone know if there are any news about duble tap to wake up/sleep for nexus5?

Exposed GravityBox for AOSP has it... probably other exposed modules have it to.

I like how this old thread's title is "knock off" (double tap homescreen to sleep) and everyone talks about double tap to wake. Lol.

Tapping twice is easier than pressing the power button?

Yeah could be if its in a cradle of wireless charger. The device needs force applying to the power button and a counter force applying to the left side of the phone, which can be awkward.
That said , I removed double tap status bar to sleep from my slim room m because I kept accidentally triggering it.

[APP MOD] GoldenEye 64 Watch [UPDATE]

Hi everyone!
I made a replica of the watch from the pause menu in GoldenEye 64 for my SmartWatch using an app from the Play Store and 3 simple .png files.
Thought I would share in case I wasn't the only person who thought it was kinda cool haha!
The app you need is this... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kaybit.smartwatch.customwatch&hl=en_GB
Then download the attached .rar file, unpack and copy to somewhere on your phone. I copied them all over in a folder so that once it was all set up, I could add a .nomedia file to the folder so the files wouldn't show in the Album.

[Tutorial]
Im sure you can all work it out, it's quite simple but just in case you need a little guidance here it is
Install the Custom SmartWatch app.
Once installed open its settings from your SmartWatch app list.
Tap on "SmartWatch 2 Settings".
Tick "Custom Ananlog Clock"
Tap "Create Custom Analog Clock"
Tap "Backgroundimage", search for the GoldenEye Background.png file and open it.
Tap "Hourhandimage", search for the GoldenEye Hour Hand.png file and open it.
Tap "Minutehandimage", search for the GoldenEye Minute Hand.png and open it.
That's it, however I also opened the "Battery Settings" and ticked "Activate Low Power Mode" so that the screen dims to grey scale to save power. You can have the watch display in colour all the time but the battery will last less than a day.
This app will automatically open itself on the watch if left idle so it replaces the stock clock app, and you'll still receive your notifications. Just tapping the screen will bring back the colour and light, pressing the home button will exit out to use other apps. You'll have to get used to doing that instead of pressing the power button like you would with the stock clock app because this is technically a running app and pressing the power button on the watch will close it and bring back the stock clock.
Enjoy!
[UPDATE] After using my GoldenEye design for a few days I noticed that when you tap the screen to make it light up again to read it and show the colour of the background, it took quite a few seconds. After contacting the developer of the Custom SmartWatch app and talking to him over the last couple of days, he has been amazing and updated the app to better support this kind of design.
The app now has a few more options under "Battery Settings" and if you enable "Monochrome Mode" and the "Faster Screen On" settings, the clock will still dim to grey scale saving battery, keep the background visible but will light up a lot quicker after tapping the screen. Feels far more responsive!
Credit to Kaybit for his awesome app!

Yeah it's a pretty cool app, I had it with my SmartWatch 1 but it was never as customisable as this. I noticed that it had been given an update and tried out the new options and ended up with this. To be honest if you have even just a little Photoshop knowledge the possibilities are endless!

You can make any gesture do anything with GMD and Tasker.
Also, any tap to wake option is a battery killer. I tried touch control for a day. Loved it! But my battery took a sh*t kicking. Lol

I'm going to guess its no different than tap as a battery killer, but that's a guess. Tho in both cases the phone is waiting anxiously for a tap or slide....and either way battery is plummeting as it wait. LOL
Haven't actually tried swipe tho. Didn't like the sounds of it. Double tap yeah....but slide doesn't sound as appealing.

All these types of apps consume battery as they need to run in the background so it works to when you want them to

Ah, yes, you're right about that, and, moreover, Tasker's (Secure Settings) "Wake Device" function could be activated with the screen off only by an accelerometer gexture, not a tap on the screen (I'm not even sure about that, though).
Well, at any rate, you should try Touch Control for yourself. I have not noticed any immoderate battery use over the past three months during which I have had it installed, and it's very handy.

kj2112's used the phrase,
"Haven't actually tried swipe tho. Didn't like the sounds [sic] of it. Double tap yeah....but slide doesn't sound as appealing."
In this case, the verb "to sound" is being used in an idiomatic expression which means "to give the impression that", "to seem", or "to appear". kj2112 was saying, in essence, "I did not try Touch Control's slide-to-wake feature because it did not seem to be something which I would like".

Like mentiond above, easiest way is to press home button and power button simultaneously. You have to press and hold them at the same to to make it work. If you first press the home button and half a second later the power button, then it won't work. The swipe-to-screenshot gesture is more difficult to use for me as I sometimes need a second attempt to make the screenshot.
How to take a screenshot on the Samsung Galaxy S7
If you're rooted it would be readily available when you long press the power button. A window will pop up giving you one of many options and one of them is a screenshot command. Which will exit out the window and take a screen shot of your current screen. Pretty damn useful.

yea man it has some great features for sure. I like your wu reference btw.
3 finger swipe for Nougat screen shot is idiotic
The 3 finger down swipe, in addition to needing two hands and 3 fingers, usually scrolls down whatever screen you're on before the image is captured. Was very annoyed until I found that screen shot could still be added to the power button options. I stand corrected.

Anyhow, it's not double tapping the screen. It's double tapping the back of your phone to turn it off, so it may not be what you're looking for.
I'm hesitant to install apps on the Playstore that will give you an icon to turn off the screen as I'm a little wary about giving special access to an app like that no matter what the reviews are.
If you get the Super Status Bar app, it has a feature that allows you to interact with the status bar that includes tap/double tap/tap and hold/swipe left/swipe right to turn off the screen.

Has a bunch of other useful features like adding swipe to control display brightness and the ability to change the icons on the status bar (I initially got it to remove the battery icon) without root.

@siavash79's thread [MOD][Xposed+Magisk][Pre-Release] AOSP Mods - System modifications for AOSP-based Android 12+ includes the ability to enable double-tap on status bar to sleep. You can also use it to change the Pixel Android built-in single tap to wake to double-tap to wake if you like.

Do this mod have long press volume button for skipping tracks on a media player? Also, any mods, this or another mod have hold back button to foreground kill app?

Awesome. I might actually do the switch from my OP9pro to the P7P really soon then. The mod scene moves so much faster on pixel phones compared to practically all other phones I've used (except for older LG (G2 & G3) and Nexus phones, mods came out quick for those.
Still on android 11 on my OP9pro because of how slow development has been on the device.

Same for me. I also had the VS985 G3 and the Verizon model of G2. Both were such great devices for tinkering and modding.
I use this for screen off
