Assuming this is an actual OTA that your phone recieved to get you up to 4.2.2 and your phone is S-On and not S-Off, then yes, you need to lock your bootloader.

[Q] Need Help - Xe (ICS) bootloader says S-OFF but superuser says not rooted

Hi
I have a sensation xe. I rooted it before upgrading it to ICS (before is GB).
I upgraded it by flashing official ics rom due to I previously installed clockworkmod recovery which stop me from normal way of upgrade.
After upgrade everything's fine, but superuser and clockworkmod gone.
When I install superuser it says binary not found. but I checked my bootloader it says S-OFF.
What should I do?
Android - 4.0.3
Software number - 3.32.401.105
Hboot - 1.27.0000
Radio - 11.22.3504.07_M
Nevermind.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G with Beats Audio using xda premium
I don't know what is that, I think not.
I flashed it using RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.105_R_Radio_11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_251961_signed.exe
If you find it locked you have to unlock first with htcdev.com but many user won't recommend it but at this time I think it the only way to unlock the bootloader, install the custom recovery(CWM) and install the superuser(root the phone).
You can get the details on this post.
But I already have it rooted before upgrade. I thought it will remain rooted? coz my bootloader shown S-OFF
OK, you have S-off. I guess you should be able to flash Revolutionary firmware from Boot loader, then use fast boot to flash the recovery, then flash root from the recovery you installed earlier and voila.
Sent from my Sensation using Tapatalk 2 Beta-6
Or, flash a firmware that contains recovery and then flash super user (just make sure its the correct firmware.) (I don't remember exactly where I seen this firmware, but I'm sure I have. Maybe here or somewhere else)

If you are S-Off you can root it again (because you flashed a RUU you lost root)
1) need to have a custom recovery (CWN or 4EXT). There is a nice tool to instal 4ext recovery HERE or download this PG58IMG. Just put it in your sd card and flash it from bootloader.
2) Then Download and install from custom recovery the Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Done!

They don't recommend it because it doesn't unlock the bootloader completely. Read more and please don't recommend it, it's incorrect. His bootloader is already unlocked, hence he is s off. As already mentioned he needs to root and install Recovery.

If you download from Market then yes, you need root.

You got me lol. I'm used to either flashing recovery through fast boot or running revolutionary to get it installed, then switch to 4EXT through the app

Correct. By revolutionary you install CWM and then you can switch to 4ext. same as I did but in his case he doesn't need to use Revolutionary because already unlocked and s-Offed (and also because Revolutionary doesn't support Hboot 1.27). He needs just to install a custom recovery by a PG58IMG and superuser to get root again.
If the. Hboot is the issue why not just get an older one, put it in a zip called pjwhatever.zip (not sure I own a wildfire) and then just put into bootloader and flash it. He has s-off like.??

Hboot has nothing to do. The OP wants just root the phone again after upgrade to ICS.
Also, I think we are hitchhiking the thread with OT postings.
That said, this is my last post here.
For the OP: Follow instructions few posts above and good luck

ahh, sorry i misread. i thought the ruu had upgraded the hboot to the htcdev hboot that has the locked unlocked thing. my bad.
Thank you so much for teaching me. I have custom recovery and superuser now in my phone.
but I have 1 more question, what is the ***LOCKED*** means in my bootloader? Is that simlock?

[Q] unable to revert to stock

So I tried to install a custom rom on my phone, yet I was stupid and did not back it up. The phone is stuck in a boot loop. I tried using the 1.85 RUU, but kept getting error 155 (i tried everything). please excuse my noobness, I have absolutely no idea what I am doing.
Where did you get to? What hboot are you on? Did you flash recovery? Can you get to recovery?
If you don't know what the hell you're doing why the hell would you root your phone? If you wanted to juggle fire would you just start or look into the risks and safest ways to do it first?

i've gotten into recovery and my hboot is 1.14.0002
When you flash a rom, because you're on hboot 1.14 you need to fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
The boot.IMG would be extracted from the rom you're flashing.

Be sure you're using the right version of IC. There is only one version, a jelly bean port, that works on this phone. Everything else will hard brick you. There is no evita version of IceColdSandwich.
You can't use the 1.85 RUU with 1.14 hboot unless you're s-off. You're probably on 2.20.

If your bootloader is unlocked just flash twrp 2.3.3.1 or under. Then you can flash su or wipe everything and flash a ROM.

I've unlocked bootloader and installed twrp also flashed su and tried to flash CM10. I wiped cashe and and then installed CM10.1 and now it freezes on "HTC quitly briliant" screen and some warning notes under it.. what to do?
Is it necessary tu S-off?
Wipe everything not just cache. Then fastboot flash boot boot.IMG right before or after flashing the ROM. The boot.img should be extracted from the ROM you're flashing.

No. RUU doesn't "lock" anything. If S-on, you typically need to relock the bootloader to run an RUU (but as mentioned, running the 3.18 RUU with S-on and SuperCID will brick the device).
But with S-off, it doesn't matter if bootloader is locked or not.

[Q] Help getting su back PLEASE

Last night I ruu to 3.18 and it went well. Now I don't have su binary or twrp recovery. I can get into recovery but touch screen doesn't work. I installed su from market but it says no su binary when I try to use it. so what do I need to do to get this stuff back working. any help appreciated.
thanks
Downgrade touch panel firmware.

If you want root, flash a rooted ROM.
You don't need to downgrade your touch firmware. Make sure you are running twrp 2.3.3.

S-on or S-off? Bootloader unlocked?
If you ran the RUU, of course TWRP and SU are not installed. RUU restores the phone to stock, including stock recovery; and no SU either.

[Q] RUU question

i just want to know how you use a ruu? i want to upgrade to 3.18 just dont know how to use the ruu
Just plug in your phone and run it. It's an exe file.
Be sure you're s-off, though, unless you're stock.

The RUU will return your phone to completely stock, so of course you will not have root anymore. But, your unlocked bootloader and s-off status will survive the process so all you need to do is flash TWRP again and then you can flash a rooted ROM.
