[Q] new icon? - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running VERY well on my KitKat rooted Maxx, but I have a new icon showing up somewhat randomly. It's white/grey, upside down teardrop with a blackdot in it. Warren Robinet couldn't help me (obscure 'dot' reference humor)
fat-fingered and Maxx-ed out.

Isn't that a location pin, like you would see on Google Maps? I took this symbol to mean that the GPS was on, and active, when this little location pin appears

Yeah, pretty sure it's the new icon for active GPS.

Yes that's the new icon indication for active Gps instead of the blinking dot.

I just saw the same icon but it was a Google Now notification. Had nothing to do with Location because it was about my favorite football team on the opposite side of the country from me.

It's the active Gps notification. Google now does occasionally trigger it to check where you're at for weather/sports/nearby events/etc. Open maps. It'll stay there permanently til you exit.

Navigation freaking out

I looked around and didn't see anything specific, when using Google navigation, roads disappear for a split second and the little compass jumps to the middle of the screen. This happens every 20 second or so. I used odin to go back to complete stock, still does it. Disabled hardware overlay, no change. Anyone else with this problem?

I use Navigation on my S III all the time and have never experienced this. Sounds like a hardware problem, probably the GPS radio. You could verify it by using some other app that uses the GPS. Try Ulysse. It's a free speedometer app and if your GPS is wonky, it'll sure show up there.
My Gps was going screwy a lot at one point too. I un installed maps then reinstalled from play store. After that it was navigating fine but the voice guidance constantly told me to make a uturn for everything... Lol. Instead of "in 2 miles, take the exit" it was "make a u turn". Makes me think of the news stories where someone runs into a building because they were doing what the Gps says and not using common sense.. Hmm l think I'm going to flip a u turn in the middle of the interstate.... Lmao... But anyway, I cleared maps data in app management then it has been working fine ever since.

I had them replace mine for the same reason. No problem through customer service. They agreed it was a hardware defect after having me do a couple of resets.

Better battery stats

Hey everyone, just had a quick question. A lot of times when I turn my screen on bbs says it's running at the bottom of my lock screen. Doesn't happen every time though.

What exactly is the question?
I underdig. If you're using supersu go to settings and uncheck 'show notifications.' I think you can set individual program toast notifications but whatev.. You figure it out. Lol
my tapatalk signature sucks more than yours.
Yeah I was talking about the notifications. Thanks bro

Default home screen

So my Nexus 5 gets here tomorrow but I've been playing around with the kit Kat launcher on my Xperia.. I figured out how to add panels but is there a way to set one as default? Thanks!

I believe the default screen is permanently set to the first one to the right of the Google now screen.

I don't know if getting to Google Now from the home screen by swiping to the right is set up in a way such as Apple's way of getting to the search panel. It seems more like swiping from the left starting kinda OFF screen, like how you tend to do with slide-in settings tabs and such in different apps. Only guessing though, as i don't yet have my N5 (should have it by Wednesday at the latest), but that's what it seems like in every video i've watched. Someone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong with this.
Yup when Google now it's activated it is a normal swipe from the to access it

Anyone noticing burn-in?

I just did the KitKat up so my notification bar went transparent and now I'm noticing some burn-in. My screen is always on auto and never left sitting around w/ the screen on. Is any one else see this? Opening th books app and letting it go full screen is a good way to test.

My notification bar is black as well.. and is only transparent on the lock screen. Are you sure it's transparent?
However, on topic, I do not see any sort of burn-in. I wasn't even sure that was possible on these types of screens? But I could be wrong.

Are you using nova launcher? With 4.4 it has a setting under look and feel to enable transparent bar
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
If you're on stock 4.4 you should NOT have a transparent notification bar...
If you're using Nova there is an option to set it to transparent
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
Guys, the transparent notification bar is not the default with 4.4. I have GEL but other 3rd party launchers like Nova also enable this.
OP, are you sure that you're actually seeing burn-in? The bar is transparent but fades to black.

Exposed Framework->Gravity Box (KK) Your welcome

Not that it's particularly relevant to the OPs question, but the KitKat update does, in fact, have the transparent status bar.
Unfortunately, what it doesn't have is the resized launcher to support it so it still looks black.

[Q] Samsung style drop down settings buttons

Something I really miss having changed from a SGS3mini with Android 4.1.2 to my new N5 with Kitkat is the buttons for wifi, sync etc. in the drop down home screen menu.
Is there an app I could install please to get this facility on my N5?

Works great. Choose the "notification widget" after you download it to get it like the samsung one.

Kind of impossible holding it with one hand.
Pull down with one finger and hit the top right icon that has a little person in it.. = same as 2 finger pull down
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
The app has things not available in the 2 finger pulldown such as screen rotate toggle.

Not being able to customise the quick settings tiles is its biggest problem. Although once I installed gravitybox, all that went away

Well I've had the device for a week now so probably time to root.
