I really like the new AOSP mail app for 4.4 and was bummed to find the 4.4 KitKat update for the Droid Maxx doesn't have it. Is there anyway to install it without crashing? I've tried copying the email and exchange2 apks to the system/app folder and all it does is force close after restart and clearing cache and app data. I'm sure there is more to this.
I too am interested. It would seem it needs a signature change or somehow pushed to the system app folder without root, but I'm inept in such matters

Here you go:

Just install both the Email and Exchange .apk's (download at bottom of the page).
One note: There is a bug in this version with the "push" sync option that causes a syncing loop that will suck your battery's power in no time. The temp solution is to set the sync to 5 mins (or more if you want).
Sweet, that one actually works! Now all we need is ver 4.4.2 that has the sync fix and pin bypass.

I haven't tried this one yet and please be aware that bypassing a corporate enforced PIN per Exchange policy can potentially get you fired.

Thanks again, works like a charm! Just needed to manually copy over the two modded apks after I installed the aosp email apks.

Still sync loops if push is activated which is a bummer. The temp solution works fine, setting to 5 min pulls.

I just flashed my ROM to cm9 from cm7 and installed the google apps package.
When I log in open Android Play (same account), and go my My Apps, all my previously downloaded apps and purchases are there still there, but none of them say 'PURCHASED'. They now list the purchase price of the app. Essentially, it's not recognizing I purchased any of my apps.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
EDIT: If I go on my computer and visit https://play.google.com/store, My purchased library still exists and I am able to install it via send to phone.
So really, it's a matter of inconvenience.
I read an Engadget article saying this is happening to a ton of people and Google is aware and working to rectify it.

Try going to manage apps and deleting app data for play store. That has worked for me in the past.

Yes Google is aware of this and best thing to do log out your gmail account clear data then reopen/sign back in. But if that doesn't help you'll have wait till Google updates

It seems to have fixed itself. Maybe there was just some server delay recognizing my phone.

I have a weird issue with Google voice and just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem. I had Google voice installed before the JB update and then after the update the app is still installed as a system app but it's not in the app drawer.
I'm a Canadian user. Could it be that it's being blocked cause of carrier, it didn't use to?
Also the version of Google voice on my phone is a newer version than in the market.

I think I had this happen with a different app and fixed it in ROM manager with a "Fix Permissions". It's worth a shot.

For the sports to work you have to go to dashboard and enable web history and then search for your tram. Eg. Scores for xx then it will add your tram

Here is the latest facebook official app with location 'feature' removed.
I am not sure if you guys who use the app know this, but facebook constantly tracks your location. There is a receiver built into the app that every time you "refresh" the app (Interval settings are found in the settings menu of Facebook) it gets your location and everything you do on Facebook, post a status, send a message, upload a photo etc, your location is added and you cannot turn it off..
So i decompiled the apk and removed all locations ability. That means, no checking in, no nearby, nothing that needs to get your location. You WILL get a forced close. I am working on trying to keep that enabled while dissabling the 'tracking' featrue. Just download, copy apk to your phones storage and use a file browser to install the APK.
Hope you guys enjoy the privacy while also enjoying the Facebook app.

Good idea, but I've turned my location of and it never shows my location when posting any thing.. when I send a private message it gives me the option to turn location of.. is this the same location receiver you are disabling from the app?

This mod will possibly use a tiny bit less. But it uses so much for its Cache. So things are loaded a lot faster and what not.

Are you talking about turning your location off under settings of your phone? Well thats different. There is no way to turn it off in the FB app itself. You can turn off the location thing for your messages but its still secretly getting your location.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but a good app that stops location requests for any application is LBE Security Master. It will prompt you each time an application requests to use certain permissions. You can also check a box to never allow the application to access that setting, in this case it would be location.
Just search on XDA to find it, I'm on my phone and I don't think the app is on the market.

Whenever i tried using a third party app to block GPS to the Facebook app, it would cause the FB app to force close irregardless what you did.
I'll try the app and see what happens. Not sure how it goes about granting and denying access. In all honesty i was looking for something like this.
Just don't use LBE Privacy Guard on jelly bean, it caused my phone to freeze a few minutes after turning on and then rebooted and got stuck in that loop. The only way to resolve it was to use adb and remove the apps file.
The app I mentioned in my post above doesn't seem to have any issues besides that parts of it are in Chinese.

Works great so far -- subscribed to this thread -- thanks!
As far as I can tell it does. When I open Facebook, LBE pops up and asks me if I want to allow Facebook to track my location. It detects whether Facebook is using location tracking through WiFi or through GPS. I have not checked to see my posts to see if location is attached to them.

Interesting.. I wonder if it's blocking "locationmanager.getlastknownlocation" as well. This method doesn't access any hardware. It just reads what the last location known was. Meaning if any other app has access to your GPS and gets a lock, that location is remembered and then used by above method.
I feel much more comfortable completely removing the actual physical code no offence to your option though.
And for a thread update, I learned a new tool to help figure out what gets called where. so I might be able to add the ability to check in as well as use "nearby" in the app. And just disable the tracking!

Sort of. I know when notifications are enabled there is a service running. Also what's your refresh interval set at? If that's not disabled then that's what the service is.
If not it may just be in "empty applications" part of androids memory manager. Meaning it's dead but still there to increase launch time. I'm running cm10 and I use the "hold back to kill" option on Facebook so mine is 100 percent gone.

Loving this app. Great job. Finally facebook can't track me anymore. One big brother, google, is enough.
This morning I was checking my Gmail on my Nexus 5 (running 4.4.2). While I am annoyed but accepting about the ad-mails in the promotions folder (that's basically what it's for, right?) I was scared ****less.
Still half asleep, my phone suddenly blurted out loud:
"YOU HAVE WON A FREE APP, SHAKE YOUR PHONE TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE"
wtf? we get voice ads now? Is this actually Gmail or some other malicious app?
Can I turn it off?
Had it again. Last part of the message was:
shake your phone now to get your free app
anyone have this too? I was running Kik now...
Sounds like a dodgy app that, as it doesn't appear to be singled out to gmail. When did it start and what did you install recently that might have caused it?

I'd fully agree, but i can't find any weird apps.
I did install an app to look for backgrounds, but deleted that again. Other then that, nothing I haven't had in a while.
Is there any way I can dump a list of processes or apps here?
Try OS Monitor, a great app that's supposed to show all running tasks.
This is a tested and working Exchange Security Bypass that I am using on my AT&T LG G3. This mod should work on any variant of LG G3 that is running stock or AOSP ROM's.
All credit goes to the below developer, I was simply looking for a solution to bypass the exchange security policy that required me to have a password or pin on my lockscreen. After several tests using Xposed Framework and other APK's I came across this and it works flawlessly. You can see the developers thread here.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible if:
• You get caught by your employer and are punished in any way
• This bricks, breaks, scratches, dents, misplaces or cracks your phone
• This security bypass leads to any negative outcome.
USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
I have rooted my phone and used Root Browser to perform the following steps (You can use ADB as well, please follow the guide in the link above).
Instructions:
1. MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR STOCK EMAIL (LGEmail.apk & LGEmail.odex) - Copy and place it in another folder incase anything happens and you want to revert.
*Stock LG Email is located in system/priv-app2. After your make a backup, delete the stock LGEmail.apk and LGEmail.odex files
3. Download the files attached to this post and put them in the system/app folder
4. Change the permissions of the two new APK's (Exchange2.apk & Email.apk) to rw-r-r (DON'T FORGET TO DO THIS)
4. Once the 2 files (Exchange2.apk & Email.apk) are placed in your system/app folder, click on them and install
5. That's it...close out of your root explorer, open your new email app and set up your exchange account. :good:
I hope this helps users who are looking for a solution to their exchange security issues like I was. Enjoy
Very cool. In the dev thread, it states "The app tells the server what it wants to hear - which is they have total control over the device, but it doesn't really do anything on the phone". Does this appear to be the case for the G3? My company requires the ability to remote wipe the device as well, looking for a way to bypass that.
Not sure it truly disables the company's ability to control your phone rather it just allows you to bypass the password.

If you backed up your email app as stated in the OP you wouldn't be without email. If you did back them up, place them back in the priv-app folder and reboot your phone.
Myself and many others have used this method with no issue. What isn't working?
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You seem to have flown over the whole point.
What's not working is I'm left without an email app. Backing it up isn't the problem nor was that indicated. Nor am I doubting the seeming plethora of people you state have succeeded in this.
I however, following your instructions, end up without an email app with which I can connect to an exchange account, with or without security. It's simply not there.
Sent from my LG-D850 using Tapatalk 2
All you mentioned was it didn't work and you're left without an email app so my apologies that I didn't quite follow you.
If you copied the email apks I provided to your system>App folder, changed the permissions and installed them but nothing showed up then I'm at a loss.
Sorry for any trouble you've run into. This should have acted like installing any other app after it was all said and done.
What version of the G3 are you on, what carrier?

The install went fine but there's no app in the drawer. And even if I go to accounts there's no exchange listed or email.

I tested the tweaksbox bypass but I've had a couple issues where the exchange account got removed when adding other accounts (yahoo). Not sure if this is isolated to me or just a bug in the tweaksbox bypass.
