I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 gt3113. It is rooted, and I want to install a rom. The factory rom/kernel lags...get stuck ....and with all I have read the roms out there make a big difference. But I'm having a problem....I'm using rom manager and rom toolbox and I cant seem to install a rom. It load the rom whether from the computer or the download option but when it boot into recovery I get an error saying that the sd card is not found and I just end up manually re-booting the device....Ive tried this a few times choosing different things at the screen...a(abd....cashe....external storage....) it all ends up the same.....anyone have any idea what this means? I'm learning as I go....and was thinking about un-rooting my device then rooting it again.....maybe I did something wrong?
Complety bewildered....

if you are able to boot into recovery then please wipe cache partition and do a factory reset and then try to revert to stock rom

For starters, stay away from ROM Manager! It's known to cause different sorts of problems on different devices while installing CWM and ROMs. I have only good things to say about ROM Toolbox in terms of tweaks and utilities, but never used it for ROM installation, and would suggest not to. Just download the ROM you want from its original source, put it on internal or external storage, and flash using your recovery (my personal all-time favourite is PhilZ Touch CWM, not sure what you are using). Do the proper wipes before flashing (full wipe is always recommended, especially between stock and CM/AOSP ROMs. Make sure you also flash other possibly applicable components (depends on the ROM and your preferences) -- gapps, kernel, etc. See if it works that way. I just don't see any reason to use 3rd-party apps for "ROM management" -- the simpler the process, the better.
I'm going to try to put a new rom on the tab tonight without using a program,i have a question though...I have to press power and the up volume or power and the down volume when i flash the new rom

You are in recovery... To get to download mode on P31xx for using Odin you need to press and hold Volume DOWN + Power.
ok.....so I need to be in the download mode to download anything including roms and kernels....so I have to use odin to download stuff then?

Man, that sounds scary! You really need to do some reading on the basics, before you screw something up.
You can flash ZIP files from recovery, including ROMs, kernels, recoveries, and apps. However, you need Odin, a PC connection, and a download mode on your tab in order to flash things like official ROM packages (typically in tar.md5 format).
If you want to flash the ROM in zip format, you can do that in recovery. In general, if you have problems doing that, your other option is Odin and a stock ROM; then you can start over.
Looking closely at your photo, you have a stock recovery. You can only flash signed zips from it, which means you won't be able to flash custom ROMs or kernels. I would suggest to start with flashing a custom recovery (look up PhilZ Touch CWM, it's the best). This will make things easier for you.
P.S.: Sorry, didn't mean to sound harsh... It seems things got a bit confusing in the process, so questions and answers didn't really line up...
well ....I have been doin a lot of research, maybe too much lol....but the only thing I can get outta all of it is that to flash a kernel or rom or both I need to go into recovery(power and up volume) and do a wipe of the cashe and install.....then it seems to trail off there with a ok now your done go enjoy....
I cant seem to find any kinda description of what happens in between the wiping of the cashe/devlick and the install...I keep ending up in the recovey section wheather I use rom manager rom toolbox or just me following directions. I will say this though.....I do not see the cwm logo in the recovery....I stiil have the android and he lays there dead then does a quick flash to an error message then I get the menu....but there is no "mount and storage" and "backup and restore" option for me to choose from I put the tab into recovery mode and took a picture....its in the previous post.
I am still using the stock rom and kernel btw....Im not sure if I have mentioned that. I havnt been able to flash anything.

Yeah, I got that. Sorry for the confusion! I updated my previous post, take a look. Stock recovery seems to be your problem here.
No harm done lol I appreciate all the help.....I'm a bit new at this, but I learn quick. Ok....I may be putting CWM or pfilze wrong way on my tab I loaded it from the play store, along but when I rooted tab I'm 99% positive that I installed CWM also . when I plug it into the computer I can see a clockwork folder.do I neeed to use odin to install philz?
is there a specific PhilZ Touch for the tab 2? or can I just download it to the computer and send it to my tab via odin?

Not sure exactly what and how you did previously, but the fact is that you've got a stock recovery now. You need a custom recovery - it doesn't have to be PhilZ, even though I strongly recommend it. You can install standard CWM, too, no problem with that. To install PhilZ, you either need CWM to be already installed, or you need to use Odin.
For details and install instructions on PhilZ CWM, look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202667
Oh, BTW, as an alternative to Odin, look up the Mobile Odin by Chainfire on Play Store. It allows you to flash Odin packages from your device directly. Very useful tool! Free version will do, but the paid one has more features.

Yes, there is. Look in the thread I linked above.
Yep.....i got it stuck in forever boot using mobile odin.... Uugggh....I'm gonna return everything to stock and re-root it.....what ever I did the first time rooting and installing cwm I must a missed a step or something. I'll repost my progress when I'm back to stock and rooted properly
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!
YAY!!! Merry Christmas to me!!! I unrooted and repaired my tab 2 7.0 . I also re-rooted it and installed philztouch and everything is installed properly this time. Funny thing though.....after I got the tab working and before I re-rooted it...I tried to do the factory update to 4.2.2 ,since now I'm only on 4.1.1,it said that I had the latest updates available and my apps and phone list didn't auto load like when I first got my tab....hhhmmmm...anyways it works now and all root stuff and twrp is properly :highfive::highfive: only one more question...now that TWRP is working....when I want to download a kernel or rom do I leave it in Zipped form when I put it on the tab and the tab unzips it and flashs it or do I unzip it? .....sorry for all the basic questions but ya cant learn unless you ask questions
Thanks for every ones help with my Tab 2!!!

Well, congrats, and merry Christmas! A bit confused - are you using PhilZ CWM, or TWRP?
As for zip files, leave them as they are, don't unzip - the recovery will install them. Just a suggestion - whenever possible, especially for large files like complete ROMs, verify the MD5 checksum to make sure your file is not corrupt during download.
just went into recovery and it says Philz touch 6

I would suggest waiting until tonight when GummyCharged 2.0 drops, it's gonna be the ultimate tweakable rom it'll be rooted, give you CWM and a custom voodoo kernel, plus a sweet better-than-stock rom

Not at first because it's going to be released a CWM recovery flashable zip. If you go to the Charge developer forum and Odin over the latest CWM recovery by Imnuts, you will be able to install it easily when it is released.

Close. You don't need to install the previous version (1.9.1) but you can if you want to. You just have to Odin over the latest CWM recovery (this will root your phone). When the 2.0 zip is released then you just place it on your SD card, enter recovery by holding volume up + home + power until the SAMSUNG logo flashes twice and then choose to install zip from SD card. Make sure to do a factory reset, and wipe the cache partition and dalvik cache (under advanced) before flashing the zip in recovery. You may not understand all of that now, but when you're in recovery mode it will make sense.

You don't need to touch Altered Beast unless you want it. I'm fairly certain that using Odin to flash CWM will provide root (I haven't done it in a long while). If it does not, after flashing CWM, just install this zip from your SD card in recovery and that will provide root.

No problem chief. Feel free to post back with any question.
If you are on the stock kernel you will need to boot directly to recovery and flash the SU .zip after odin CMW, or else the recovery will be overwritten by the stock kernel.
Your best bet is to wait till GC FE 2.0 is released, then odin CWM, and boot direct to recovery and flash the 2.0 .zip. then you are done in a couple steps.
That'll work too.
so now the waiting game begins lol
This happened before but I can't remember how I fixed it.
1. Flashed TWRP (over codename if that helps)
2. it bootlooped back to recovery instead of starting the system
3. tried flashing another rom/ didn't work
4. finished season 2 of the walking dead
5. reflashed TWRP didn't help (TWRP flashing failed even tho it was the same file I used to get TWRP in the first place)
6. Took the battery out but that didn't help either
I really don't want to odin or use one click any ideas??

Meh, lets start with the first two...
To stop the reboot to recovery, you must flash eollie's oneclick with bootloaders (so flash it twice, second time flash bootloaders) and go back to mtd.

at first I tried reinstalling codename but now I'm trying Beam (Tuk edition) and it seems to be working
TWRP Major Boot Loop
hey guys, im new here and i desperately need help with my phone!
the other day i was flashing a rom on my samsung galaxy s 4g. Things were turning out fine, until i had some complications on my phone.. so, i removed the rom. when i rebooted my phone, it went directly into the team win recovery project boot loop and every time i try to reboot my phone, it goes into the twrp. I also can't wipe anything and i can't delete anything! Does anybody know how I can solve this or is my phone basically bricked
more details would be helpful..
As in what rom, or what kernel.... etc... and make sure you have the corret phone.
Same problem with t959p
Looks like I'm not alone.......here's my story
the other day I wanted to switch from a stock rom to a custom, so I flashed redux 1.3 which was actually a froyo rom, and it started draining my batt like crazy so I flashed another rom on top of the froyo rom not realizing what I was doing and somehow messed it up cuz now it will only boot into recovery.
Now just to be clear I know this was my fault, I know I should have odin'd back to stock first, but I wasn't thinking at the time.....Ohh and just so you know I've flashed this sucker hundreds of times and was always able to get out of any mess I got in.
So here is the situation as it stands now, 3 button combo to enter download does not work. I can only get it into download with the jig I made. the problem is even in download mode none of my pc's will detect the device as a Samsung composite device, so odin will not see it. I've installed every possible 32 n 64 bit driver I could find including reinstalling kies. Kies wont even see it. I've tried flashing a few roms that I know worked and still it just boots into recovery. Now one thing I'll tell you is that depending on which rom I flash I can get recovery to switch from cwm to twrp. right now I left it with cwm 6.x.
what I need is a cwm flashable stock telus t959p rom complete with bootloaders or at the very least a cwm flashable zip file containing the bootloaders to see if I can recover the phone.
ohh and if your thinking about telling me to google search for the answer then don't bother.......I've spent the last 4 days reading posts and going to different websites and repositories trying to find something that would help me and so far nothing has.
the only thing that might work as a last resort is pushing the bootloaders as per one of raver's or whitehawks posts but it's a little more complicated for me as I would have to set up a laptop with Linux as I don't think i'll be able to pull it off with any of my windows pc's, win7 and win 8 only.
so if anyone has the files I need or can make them please let me know....or if you think you have another solution I could try i'm all ears err eyes.
thanks
Jedi

Would like to revive a slightly dead thread.
I upgraded to a Galaxy S3 and no longer use my SGS4G for daily use. I had AOKP and disliked it, FC's and didn't like the feel. I have been trying to install a new rom ( old rom, VH Black Ed. ). Every time It loads into TWRP I have the ability to select the zip, install, it says complete, but reboots right back to TWRP menu. I've tried flashing CWM and it will install, flash the rom, reboot, and right back to this TWRP B.S... what am I doing wrong? I want to continue to use this SGS4g for music and internet duties.
How can I install CWM and have it stay even after a reboot? This TWRP is starting to me off
Did you happen to one click to stock before you went ham at the recovery?

Also, what rom are you trying to flash ? You are rooted, right ?
If you can post some more details - am sure people will chime in

I'm running stock 4.0.4, Rooted, Clockworkmod recovery. I have tried to flash several different roms. Romswell, AOKP, CM nightlies thru ROM manager. all of them fail in recovery. I flash stuff all the time on my SIII so I'm not really a Noob to flashing and what not, but I can't figure this one out. Thanks for any help.
What are you using for recovery? When you say failed what is the error message? Sounds like you should prolly reflash a current official recovery. If by failing you mean it hangs on first boot then your not wiping system before flashing. Factory reset and wipe system before you flash.
Are you by chance running any scripts for sd card swap, etc ?
I am running this script, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961097 which swaps my 32GB external sd for the internal sd, which runs great - no issues, except with rom manager and flashing from recovery.
I have to go back and de-activate the script, reboot, and then dowload - or transfer file from PC, and it flashes without issue
Otherwise, I have had no flashing issues of any kind - using CWM 6.0.1.5 for the p3113
Good luck,
Bill

Hi, thanks for replying. I cannot post in the topic of the rom because I am new on the forum (what I get when I try to post something overthere).
Could you please explain me how to fix the permissions in CWM?
I am a beginner who been trying to fix his tablet for a week now, but I still dont understand everything since I cant put all my time on it... If its not about following tutorials step by step, i am lost...
I also tried the fast team one, without any success, when the rom is installed and the device is rebooted, this time the screen stay blocked on "samsung galaxy tab3" for years!!!
sorry, i meant the fast dream rom

Everytime I get I click on AP to load the rom on odin, I get this message:"md5 error! Binary is invalid".
Since I have rooted the tablet using odin to instal CWM, when I boot the tablet in download mode, I can see:
- PRODUCT NAME: SM-T311
- CURRENT BINARY: Cusom
- SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Is it related? Someone help plz...
The question is do i really have to install a new rom, now that the tablet is rooted with CWM on it, can't do any manipulation to allow the chinese rom to accept google playstore etc...
My biggest problem with the chinese rom that comes with it is that i cant install download google playstore, i installed it but everytime i open it, it closes right away. Not google nor other google apps available neither since it was sold in china...

In the end, I just used a previous version of Odin (3.4 instead of 3.9) to flash an original stock rom.
Now the problem is that I have a new CWM that works with the volume up, volume down button, and this menu:
- reboot system now
- apply update from ADB
- apply update from external storage
- zipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- apply update from cache
Since the rom is not really good, i wanted to flash another one (one of those we just talked about), but the backup i did with the previous CWM i had (Philz Advanced CWM 6.08.90) is nowhere in the tablet anymore (i dont have any sd card) and i dont know how to make a back up with this CWM...
So now the question is how to make a backup with this version of CWM so I can try to flash other roms, or how to get the version that i had before without takin any risk of brickin the device (so i can make another backup and try to flash another)

I close it, then:

Try fix or patch.
Or come back to stock rom.

Yup, I think you'd better to start over again. Try take a look at this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2401901
It works well for my SM-T311 :good: Then you can reroot and make a backup from TWRP easily.
I also suggest you to take a look at this too : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522091 From there, you can get PhilZ touch recovery based on CWM v.6.0.4.5

Ok, my problem is resolved now.
- I had to use the previous version of Odin (3.4) to flash a rom from sammobile.com
- Then, I rooted the phone, reinstalling CWM philz version
- I did a backup using CWM
- Finally I flashed the custom rom using CWM
Thank u all for helping

HELP
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 SM-T311 in Mainland China last month and I cannot install google play can anyone help.
Hello community,
I was given the device last year and had been fairly satisfied with the performance of it. However, it has gotten laggy over the past couple weeks and a friend suggested to root and flash a rom on it. So, without any prior knowledge, I have been doing some research and browsing through the threads on this forum. I can see that there are guides but was very unsure if the methods would still work because I have noticed that most of them were last updated/edit a while ago. I know I shouldn't use the word 'latest' for doing this to a tablet that is fairly old in the market. However, it would be very helpful if someone can point me to some 'proven to work' or 'trust-worthy' guides of rooting, flashing recovery, and rom.
Also, just out of curiosity, please recommend which recovery and rom a first-timer should use if possible
try these roms.

hello ,
these are the things you need to do before flashing a ROM.
note: -the following things may void your warranty.
-do this on your own risk.
1. HOW TO ROOT
-First install kingo root on your windows PC. Then check USB debugging .
( settings. < about device < touch build number 7times < go back and select developer options < check USB debugging.)
-Open kingo root on the PC and connect your device and connect your device to the PC. Start root and do not remove the USB cable until it says finish.
-Now you have successfully rooted your device.
2.HOW TO INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY
- Go to the following link and download CLOCK WORK MOD(CWM)
LINK: https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Select your device and install the recovery.
go into the app and install recovery .
3.BACK UP
download rom manager from playstore and do a backup( do a backup using this ap only if you are using CWM recovery.
link for ROM manager: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...mmanager&hl=en
Now the first thing you need to do is download this rom.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934533333
(note: you can flash the rom of p5110 for p5113)
now to flash the rom follow the following steps.
1. Go to recovery mode
2. (have the rom in your sd card)flash it there .
use this link to know how to flash a rom.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJfPwWjnWGY
now you can reboot after flashing.
to get inbuilt google apps and play store you need to install something called GAPPS (Google apps) download from this link.
http://opengapps.org/?api=5.1&variant=nano
now you flash this zip the same way you flashed the rom.
any problems plz notoce me.

I was looking in the forum and someone said that I would also need to unlock the bootloader? If so, how do I do that?
Also, is there a difference between kingroot and towelroot? I saw a post in the forum here saying towelroot is fast and easy to root the tablet.
Not much difference.
Actually there is not much difference between kings root and towel root....towel root doesn't need a PC...but I have never used it so I can't assure you that it is safe.
And coming to the boot loader I don't know much about it but I didn't do anything like that before flashing a rom or rooting my tab2....
If you want further assistance about the boot loader I can help you with that..

Hey, it's been a while. Honestly speaking, when I first posted this thread, I didn't really have enough time to do the things so now I am finally back and trying to do it. So far, I know what recovery and rom I'm going to use with all the files downloaded and ready. Though, currently, I am still at the pre-root stage. I have read up things about kingoroot and not sure if I wanted to use it. So I looked around on the forum and wonder if Odin is still a working solution. Reading on the steps and guides, I was wondering if I need to have Kies installed?

Kies is not needed as it never helped.
You can depend on odin it is your only saviour when you are in trouble.
I think rooting with kingroot is easy as it is just connecting to your PC and cick the start button.
So just notice me when your ready.
And there is also one good news...?
Tab 2 has got marshmallow.

I have rooted the tablet. I did it with odin and twrp with flashing the updatedSuperSU zip folder.
I have tried flashing the CM12.1 rom yesterday but resulted in a boot loop. So for now, I'm just rooted and on stock rom until I or someone can find out what was the problem. I have read about the discussion with marshmallow but it seems to me that the project isn't really stable yet. From what I have researched lately, can I assume there's issue with the p51xx line of tablets? Because I saw many people having problems with p51xx and most people with the other tablets aren't having any.

You first must update your tab to jelly bean bootloader, before trying out newer roms.
Or perhaps flash stock jb firmware with odin
Whatever you choose, both is ok.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2642005
Read here
The first thing you do, is take a nandroid backup, it's very important at every step, unless you are really ready to risk. It's better to have it.
Next Read through the rom threads, clear your mind and your tab too. You must format data.
Stay on twrp 2.8.7.2. Don't go to the latest one yet.
Flash rom, wait, it will boot up.
Every tab behave differently with every rom, sure you are going to face soft reboots, on some roms it will be a lot, on some it will be less. I would suggest you try both LP and kk first.
Remember, it's better to keep this tab updated than to stay on stock. This tab 2 series has a emmc bug and staying on stock or jumping back is a risk too. I have been on kk and lp. They both have kept this tab running great and away from that bug.

Do I have to unroot first? Do you have a link to making a nandroid backup?
Edit: Oh, I looked at the link you included and it said that if I am on stock jb (4.2.2), I can skip the update bootloader part..
When you flashed the new rom, did you do a factory reset (wipe data)?

Yes, that's what I meant too, if you're on jb already, you are fine. You don't have to unroot. For making a nandroid backup, use twrp recovery, there is an option for backup, select and backup all from there, if you get into bootloop or any other problem, as long as you can get back to recovery, you can restore from there. Most rom comes pre rooted.

That's what I did. Let me just briefly summarize what I have done:
used odin with twrp
booted into recovery and made back up
cleared dalvik, cache, system, and data, formatted data
flashed update supersu, booted into system and checked root with root checker
rebooted into recovery, cleared dalvik, cache, system, and data, formatted data again
flashed cm12.1 and gapps, rebooted but ran into bootloop at splash screen
rebooted into recovery and restored back up
So I'm rooted and on stock 4.2.2 currently.
