Can't switch to ART - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For some reason I can't switch to ART. When I select that in developers options, it prompts to reboot but afterwards when I check it is still on dalivk. Any idea? Running purity rom with Franco kernel.

Check the purity rom and franko kernel to see if it supports art

Do you haze xposed installed

Franco works fine. You'll have xposed installed so it'll just reboot back to Dvalik

Oh so do I have to uninstall xposed to switch to ART?

Yes.
I had this issue this afternoon. Couldn't figure out why ART wouldn't activate until I searched.
Uninstall xposed, select ART, then reboot, and then when all of the apps have been refreshed upon boot up, reinstall Xposed.

I just checked again. Didn't notice that it switched back to Dalvik.

Xposed will probably never work with ART

A handy hint I have just discovered... Uninstall Xposed from within the framework first, THEN remove it from your phone... Apparently Xposed leaves "things" behind :/

Hi,
Yes you need to uninstall from Xposed framework to restore the original "app_process" file and reboot..., then nothing is left on your phone.

[Q] Anyone else experience this?

I have been rebooting my Nexus 5 when using Xposed Framework modules and for every perfect reboot I get a bootloop. Is anyone else experiencing this? It's frustrating that my Stock Rooted with Xposed Framework setup would cause bootloops and every time a bootloop occurs it eats up a lot of battery and makes the phone uncomfortably warm.
do you have art selected?
I have the same setup as you.....xposed never sent my device into boot loop. As the poster above me stated, are you using art or dalvik? I believe xposed does not work with art. Also, could using a module within xposed that is not developed for 4.4+ cause such misbehavior?

I have had this problem.. I don't know how to fix it.. I just restore a backup and try it again.. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't

I use Xposed on all my devices, I've never had so much as a stutter from it, let alone a bootloop. You've got something else going on. As others pointed out, if you are using ART runtime, Xposed isn't compatible.

Yeah it's not that, I don't have ART enabled and on top of that enabling ART while Xposed is installed automatically sends you back into the OS and cancels the request for ART as a part of Xposed Framework, so I couldn't have enabled it anyway.

I wasn't inferring that ART was the only possible cause, just the most common. What modules are you trying to use?

GravityBox and Greenify. Nothing that should be causing this.

If you disable both mods do you still get boot loops? And are you using the version of GB that's meant for kitkat?

Still getting boot loops with both mods disabled, even went as far as to uninstall Xposed Framework to see if it would happen. I rebooted 10 times and it boot looped 3 times out of those 10.
Yes, using GravityBox for KitKat.

Xposed/Gravity Box problem..

Okay.. so im trying to get gravity box to work.. but every time I try to activate the module in xposed, I get "GravityBox system framework not responding. Exiting"
Not to sure why this is happening.. I've installed everything correctly according to the threads for these apps.. I installed xposed, installed the framework.. rebooted.. then I installed gravity box and then try to activate it through the modules in xposed and I get that error.. anyone know why? and yes I am rooted. Lol I am using the LG Optimus L9(LGMS769) on v10f

Well, I figured it out lol, Im an idiot... this whole time I thought clicking the name of the modules is how you activated it.. didnt know you actually had to click the checkbox it self.. So I was trying to open gravitybox before it was actually activated. Bleh, sorry xD
Xposed
I believe there might be different versions for different updates like gravitybox(JB) or gravitybox (KK) which i solved the framework issue by.
do you install and update xposed.
move both items on internal memory
move both items on internal memory
install on phone memory
2 ways
settings
application manager
select gravity box and xposed installer
move to internal memory
another way
install without memory card

[Q] Please help! "unfortunately the process com.android.systemui has stopped"
I have a rooted nexus 5 running CM11. I kept getting this message before and I didn't know why so I posted here and someone told me to wipe my data so I did. That fixed the problem for about 2 weeks but it's back again. It happens so frequently now its very frustrating. It happens when I open an app, update an app or uninstall an app. Not every time but most frequently when updating. Why is this happening?! Please help and thanks in advance!
Just reflash your ROM or flash a different ROM and your problem should be fixed
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Do you use Xposed or any theme mods? Probably something like that causing it.
As spinninbsod said, just dirty flash your ROM again or clean flash a new one.

Cool, just make sure none of the mods are trying to do the same thing, like change battery icon etc.
If you're reflashing ROM it also might be worth taking a fresh back up before reactivating Xposed, just to save reflashing if something ***** up again

I think its XBLAST TOOLS that's giving me the problems. I don't get that error until I open the app.

Ok that's a good start. Can you remember what you were using it to do? There's probably a similar settings in XGEL or Gravity Box.

As soon as I open xblast I get the error. I just uninstalled it and I'm trying gravity box now to see if it was just xblast. And what do you mean what I was using?

Prior to your problems, were you using XBlast to do anything specific like changing statusbar or something like that?

Yes. I had like everything enabled. I changed things in the status and notification bar and I also did stuff to my lock screen and a few other tweaks.

You can change all that stuff in GravityBox and XGEL so might be best to just use those instead
Due to an update of an Xposed module, I had badly corrupted my systemui. The phone was totally unusable, and I could only press the OK button notifying the stopped event at startup.
Lucky me, I still had not updated to 4.4.3. Via Skipsoft Android Toolkit I updated to the last Android release, and my systemui got fixed. I did not choose to perform a complete wipe, so I actually maintained my previous apps. In relation to root, I did not loose it, but I had to reinstall SuperSU to get the non-official apps working again.
I hope this helps somebody else in my same condition, with no need to do a system wipe!
thank you. this helped me today.
woke up with the error. assuming its gravitybox and xblast causing an issue. will remove xblast.

Xposed does not actually "touch" or change SystemUI in any way. Xposed puts a couple of "files" in system which allows intercepted commands to be changed, without changing the actual code.
When you updated the ROM via a toolkit (PLEASE don't use toolkits by the way) you would have overwritten these Xposed files.
The simplest fix is to just remove the Xposed files

[Q] Not able to switch to ART, Stock + Rooted + Code Blue Kernel

I am using Nexus 5 with stock rooted ROM and with Code Blue Kernel. I want to switch to ART. I go to developer option and select Use ART.
My phone reboots and it is still in dalvik. Is there anything special I need to do here?
What is the requirement to go in ART?

Sounds like xposed installed

Thanks. Yes I have Xposed installed. Is it possible to uninstall Xposed, then switch to ART and then install Xposed Again. Will this work in that case or I will not be able to install xposed after that.

xposed does not work with ART in any way at this time.
so if you want ART, you cannot use xposed. period.
Xposed dev has said that he won't officially support ART until it gets released in its final form.

cant switch to art

when i try to switch to art through developer options, the opo just resets but is back on dalvik, i have used xposed but uninstalled it(by dragging it to the uninstall at the top of the screen).
using mahdi rom 10/24 with franco r28.
so why cant i switch?
thanks.

Uninstalling it does not remove it from the framework. Reinstall the apk and uninstall from inside the app
