Okay. I'm looking to get 5 row by 5 column support for Launcher3 in CM11. First off I know there are great third party launchers out there, and I'm actually using Nova Prime right now to get 5x5 support. However I would love to have 5x5 support in the native built in launcher. I was a huge fan of Trebuchet in CM10.2.
So far I've looked at this:https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...c/com/android/launcher3/DynamicGrid.java#L550
it doesn't seem to work as the profile for Nexus 7 lists 6x6 but it does 4x6 in landscape and 6x5 in portrait.
I can get Launcher3 to run in 5x5 mode if I change build.prop down to 320dpi. However it makes everything on the phone almost unusable.
Anyone know where I might start to look to force Launcher3 into 5x5 mode?
You can set the dpi in the launcher only using the xposed modules "app settings"

Is there any Launcher out there that got the feature to change homescreen based on orientation?
I currently have my device locked on Landscape because I feel it looks better and I can fit more stuff on it. But with the same number of columns and rows in Portrait makes everything look bad and squished, if I use less rows and columns in Portrait then most of the apps and widgets are hidden and it still looks bad.
So the best would be to have 2 different homescreens depending on the orientation, I currently use Apex but I couldn't find a feature like that. Sure I could just scroll manually to another screen but that's just annoying and it's easier to lock it to landscape in that case.
sslauncher the original (market link) can do that nicely. It doesn't have XxY layouts, everything is freely arangeable (with guidelines). There's also a free version, which should have the same functionality to try first.
Not exactly what I was looking for, I was looking for the standard launcher but with orientation based homescreens. But this one looks really nice, will try it out for a while thanks.
orientation homescreen
only one i have been able to find is on Cyanogenmod 10.x launcher application name is Trebuchet 1.0

I need to use CM for Trebuchet, my device is not supported so that's not possible.
Also on my old device which was supported I couldn't find that function either, Trebuchet can auto-rotate but you can't set default homescreen depending on rotation.
For example, in Apex Launcher I can set Landscape to have 10x10 grid and potrait to have 5x5, the problem with doing that is that all apps and widgets that are set on a grid that is beyond 5y or 5x will disappear in potrait and everything will look bad.
What I want is to use homescreen number 1 as default for landscape and homescreen number 2 as default for potrait, that way I can make them look good on their own orientation.
The launcher should switch to the correct homescreen when I change orientation. I have tried like 15 launcher and haven't seen this function yet.
Are there any mods out to change the homescreen grid size from 4x4? It seems silly to only have 4 rows of icons when the resolution is so high. I use blinkfeed often so using apex or nova is out of the question for me.

I can't find this too.
If you have Xposed installed you can use Sense 6 Toolbox to get an extra row. It has an option to add another row to all homescreens. 4x5 is the only option but it's better than 4x4.
If you don't mind not using sense 6, get a new launcher like nova or apex. But getting xposed (if you are rooted) if you want to keep sense is your best bet.
Is Nova launcher performance equal, worse, or better than stock?
For me: it's better. Why?
- it have double-tap to sleep (and other gestures)
- Choose iconpack you want
- Swipe icons for more actions
- Swipe folder for more actions
- Adjust grid and overlap widgets
- Adjust app drawer
.... endless list
.
Yes, I use it for the gestures mainly, and other customisation.
Nova is one of the first 5 apps installed on any phone I've used. It allows so much more customization than ANY stock skin.
Gestures, Color changes, Animations, Icon Packs for all icons and individual ones.
Performance wise I believe it's better. You can customize your animations especially to be much snappier than stock.
Yes!
Absolutely !
Unavoidable, inevitable, indispensable
Stock launcher performs better on touchwiz
I prefer Nova, it's perfect launcher for me. Iconpacks, gestures and other customisation. Also I use it for years and can't use another launcher..

If you have Nova Launcher beta edition signed has right now support with samsung themes and you can see all the icons of samsung themes working with Nova Launcher.
I believe is the best thing to give you this support.
That is the latest changes:
WHAT'S NEW
5.1-beta6 April 21
Ability to disable Dynamic Badges per-app (Long-press App icon - Edit - Show badges)
Respect system level themes on Samsung and Huawei devices
Indeed!!
I'll add my $0.02 too
Nova is awesome! I've run it on every Android device I've owned for the last 7ish years. The devs even reply to you when you have an issue. They update often which resolved any bugs that pop up.

Hi all,
i'm trying to modify the the touchwiz launcher as since few updates Samsung introduced a very annoying "feature" which is a huge gap between the status bar and the 1st icons row ( check this thread for pics: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/free-space-home-screen-update-t3650504)
Now my questions is, as i'd like to used the latest s7 official stock firmware, how can i mod the stock launcher to reduce the 1st row gap from the top of the screen? i have no idea where to start! any suggestion?
thanks in advance!
Hello,
The Touchwizz launcher doesn't have many options to personalize it. I would suggest you try an custom launcher like Apex Launcher or Nova Launcher (I prefer Apex because it has some options in the free version that are only accessible in the paid version of Nova, that's only my thought and taste). If I keep that Apex launcher example, in it you can set how many rows of icons vertically and horizontally, separately for portrait or landscape mode, you can set the margins on top, bottom, left and right sides of the screen etc... Well, you can fine tune to your likes.
If you want to keep the Touchwizz launcher at all cost, I'm afraid I can't help you because it lacks lots of options. It's not bad, but if you like specific set ups, prefer a custom launcher (launchers like Apex allow you to export your settings, so each time you have a new device, you can install your custom launcher on it and import your settings file and instantly have everything configured to your liking).
I hope I've been able to help you.
Have a good day!
Hello,
I'm using ArrowOS 11 and Microsoft Launcher. When I return to the home screen by exiting the resource intensive apps, the launcher screen reloads and consequently my screen icons and widgets appear after about two seconds. How can I fix this?
Here is quote from Nova Launcher FAQ. (it applies to all custom launchers on Android not just Nova)
I guess you could try disabling gesture navigation but i'm not sure if it's gonna help.
It doesn't matter what 3rd party launcher or version of 3rd party launcher you use, it matters what your system/OEM does. If your system doesn't allow gesture navigation to work with 3rd party launchers, then no version of Nova will change that in any way. If it works inconsistently with 3rd party launchers, no version of Nova will change that either. A great source of information can be found via this article by Mishaal Rahman with input from Kevin Barry, the developer of Nova Launcher: https://www.xda-developers.com/third-party-launchers-animation-pixel-phones/ Notable issues with gestures on third party launchers include, but not limited to: • Close all/Clear app button not appearing(scroll all the way to verify it's not there) • Not being able to tap icons for a short time after returning to the home screen • Animations not being as fluid as expected • Home screen icons flashing • Home screen redraws Please understand, there is absolutely nothing Nova can do to fix or change this in any way! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as Nova have absolutely no control over it whatsoever. NOTE: These are system gestures only and are not related to Nova's personal gestures that you will find via Nova Settings -> Gestures & Inputs.

Notice to Xiaomi/Redmi/Poco users: Xiaomi has completely disabled gestures with third party launchers on MIUI 12 with Android 11 (MIUI 12 on Android 10 seems to be unaffected). As you have read above, there is nothing we can do on our end to change or enable this.

I rly like to use gesture navigation. This issue is not present on Arrow launcher.
OEM (Stock) launcher is not affected by this, only custom ones.

Good to know. Why full screen gestues are that problematic, even on custom roms?
It's not that gestures are problematic, from what i understand it's just custom launchers that cannot take full advantage of the API. (?)
Did you read this? https://www.xda-developers.com/third-party-launchers-animation-pixel-phones/
Not yet, I just returned to Android after few years with iPhone, and it's quite confusing. I'm installing now Pixel Experience, it will be closer to Pixel feel.
I'd just use whatever stock launcher you like best from the available ROM's and stick to that.
