[Q] Official Moto G Flip Shell Review - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am thinking of getting the Moto G flip shell, but i am wondering if its any good or not? Does anyone have it? And if so, what is it like?

I'm also want to buy this original flip shell, but also wait review before buy it...

I don't have it but here's a review: http://www.androidcentral.com/moto-g-flip-shell-review

I just bought one for the wife's Moto G. The shell is well made and feels like it will last. It has a magnetic front so it stays closed and when opened, the phone 'wakes up' on its own. It replaces the existing rear case and is slightly thicker than the stock case but this makes the phone feel even more solid.
The wife is very fussy about how her phone feels and she is very pleased with the Flip Shell.

I ordered official white one from Amazon as nowhere has them in stock. I will post back with review but doubt Ill have it for at least a week now due to holidays.

HTC Hard Shell Case (OEM)

Has anyone here purchased one of these cases that were made by HTC for the G2? Just saw a video of this on YouTube and was very intrigued by it solely for how the top shell fits on the case. You can see in the attached photo I make a note of this slight design change, so that when you open up the keyboard the top part (display) fully extends. I bought one of the cheap ones on Amazon and it doesn't have that cut-out. I think I'll try carving that part out myself with my Dremel as I can't full extend my keyboard, but these HTC branded cases look really nice. So far I've only seen them come in a bright blue, red/pink and neon green color. I'd love to see a video on how hard it would be to remove the case from he phone, as that cheap Amazon one is a ***** to take off.

I decided to take the plunge and ordered the black one. The youtube video sold me on it, and even more so that it's made by HTC. Can't wait to get it, and I'll share pics and maybe a video of it.

My case is molded just like in the pic. Bought mine off ebay for $2.87 don't see any difference other than mine is clear smoke. It fully extends as well.
Phone: T-Mobile G2/Vision Rooted/GFree'd

I bought my case on amazon for about $3 and it has this cut out for the keyboard. I do like the HTC logo and door tracing on the back.

Just ordered mine. the video sold it to me as well. good review. looks real smooth
That looks nice. And it's half the price of the Otterbox. Looks very Seidio-ish. Hopefully we can get some reviews
It's out of stock BTW. ~_~

This is what I usually think of lol
Cool. I found another site that offers them: http://www.talkietech.com/t-mobile-g2-accessories.html
Bought the black one from wirelessground a week back. They shipped pretty quick and free shipping with code freeship. I like the case. Doesn't interfere with the keyboard out, makes it easy to grip, and only adds a little bit of bulk.

Wish I had known about that free shipping code, but it's only $4 so not like I just threw a chunk of cash down the toilet.

I'll do a review of the case once I get it, and like I previously said I'll take photos and hopefully do that review via video on YouTube.
I have the black one. It feels smooth, not too heavy, and it opens and closes right just like a charm. Definitely worth it. I don't see myself getting another one!
i think im sold on this case. reason is...the keyboard side and screen side both have the cutouts so the phone will lay completely flat when its open. now if they would make a spring clip holster like the one they offer currently, but that fits the phone with the case on it.
These are 9.95 on Android Centrals store right now.. but shipping is $16.95 to Canada.. wtf

I received the black HTC case last night, and will be working on a video review which I'll share here. Hopefully I'll have that done by the end of this weekend.
I bought a few from amazon, but needed to file down the tabs so there wasn't as much of a gap, and so I could remove more easily when necessary.
I bought the red "metallic" HTC case from android central- and put the others away... its perfect, tactile and less bulk than the others. Higher quality, and I didn't need to use a file.

I wasn't able to do a video review of this case as I was under the weather this weekend, but I would like to have one done soon. Overall, this is a great case.

Does that have the trimmed side (top piece on left side) to allow the display to fully open without interfering with the top row of keyboard buttons?

Ultra slim smart cover (pics)

I just ordered this ultra slim cover for my tf700 its slim and light, and not bulky it also has a stand for movie watching and for typing as well, i like how it covers the back and has all holes for the ports and speaker its a non branded cover that was shipped from hong kong took 2 weeks to get here, below i will post a link to the website I ordered and some pictures of the cover. price $15
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-Transf...es_Covers_Keyboard_Folios&hash=item35c43bb49b
looked really closely at that one, but went with the TPU Hard Gel instead. Post a review once you have used it a while and let us know what yoiu think of it.
Looks really good, thinking of a purchase. How's it lasted so far?
cover - check
slim - check
ultra - so so
smart - not even close
Ive had it for a couple days now and i like it, I like how now i don't have to worry about placing my tablet down on its back to avid scratches on the aluminum back, another thing i like is that it has a stand to watch netflix or anything else while im at the table, that was the only reason I used the keyboard dock now i wont have to attach and detach the keyboard dock all the time, another thing i like is that its slim and dose not make the tablet look bulky like some leather ones i see on ebay, I was also looking at the hard tpu case but chose this cover because of the stand.
Couple of questions:
How stable is it when it's set up in the movie-watching position?
How much protection/padding is does it offer (if any)? It looks very much like a clone of the Apple smart cover, so I'm guessing not a whole lot.
The anal retentive in me dislikes that fact that the Asus logo is upside down when it's in the typing position, but whatever!
I guess it's a toss up for me between this one (cheap, cheerful, slim, long shipping time) and this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008OHFT5W/ref=gno_cart_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1GC47N5J8F7IJ
(more expensive, not so slim (but better protection), two-day shipping).

its really stable i can type in the movie watching position without tipping over, that i did notice that when i type laying down the asus logo is up side down, but that's not a problem for me, i also looked at the case you have on the link, it looks nice its not that bulky and also works as a stand, only thing i didn't like was the mat sticks out in front of you when watching a movie, and that it dose not cover all around the edge just the corners, other then that seems like a good cover, and padding looks a lil thicker on both sides front and back. over all im happy with the slim cover it dose what i need, the long wait for it to arrive is what i hated,
Thanks for the feedback. I've gone ahead and ordered the Acase one, as I'll need something pronto and the tablet is due to arrive today. I may pick up one like yours later on...we'll see.
It looks pretty!
I'd be afraid to break wind near that with it standing, might blow over.
For anyone looking for a high quality stable folio case, I highly recommend the Targus Truss case! I bought mine at my local Best Buy for my Asus Prime for $40. It fits the Infinity perfect, as both tablets are nearly identical. The only thing is the volume rockers are trickier to get to, but it's not an issue at all, just throwing only way you can tell it isn't made specifically for the Infinity

Unicorn Beetle Case

Hi
My unicorn beetle case just arrive and I want to share my toughts with you.
First I order it from Amazon as I live in Chile the final cost was around 50 bucks.
I drop my first moto x 2014 (the one in the pics) and it screen shattered so a case for my new moto X was a must.
The case came in a really simple cardboard box, inside you find the 3 parts of the case:
- Front panel
- Back panel
- Belt clip holster
The plastic bag that contain them have a QR code with a link to a video of how asamble it but is really very easy.
The front panel have a integrated screen protector and only leave the mic, front camera and speaker unprotected (this is why this case is not waterproof).
The backpanel leaves the Motorola, the camera and the back mics unprotected also, but it have protectors for usb port and the audio jack.
The only fail that I notice is the holster, only once I was able to attach the phone to it, I haven't been able to do it again, it should be a lot more easier, but anyway I dind't plan to use it.
The phone dosn't gain a lot of weight and I still feel it comfortable.

Amazon here is the link

It don't show up in the company webpage neither I don't know why.
Update:
The holster works great but the screen goes looking inside, the camera face out that is the reason why it dont fit when i tried

I don't know if that will be a great idea, I use mine all the time but for a test that I really need to use wolfram alpha I remove it, I haven't been able since then to use it with out bubbles in the screen protector.
Actually bought one,
Very happy with it, just the hard plastic back is easily scratchable, i already got a deep scracth in it... Tried it on a coloured back moto X too and the frosted back is wonderful !
15€ on Amazon.fr
any updates? i tried the link you posted but had no luck. i got my phone on jan 2,15 and havent yet been able to find a case i like for it.
I've had this case for about a week, and I have mixed feelings. It's a very rugged case, and I feel comfortable about the phone not being damaged. However, there are a few things I would change about this case if I could. First, since the case isn't waterproof, it could do without the integrated screen protector and headphone/power port covers. It takes a little bit of dexterity to hold the cover open just to plug in the charger. Secondly, the power and volume buttons could be more pronounced. I have accidentally turned off the screen many times while trying to adjust the volume.
I don't regret the purchase, though, and I'd definitely recommend it as an alternative to Otterbox.
I've had this case in white for just over a month, here are my impressions.
- sturdy case
- excellent quality
- great price
First thing I did was yank off the screen protector. It is a far better plan to apply something like a BSE skin than to keep using the screen protector that's included.
This means you can take off/on the case with little fuss as much as you want. Its easy to remove and seems up to the task of repeated removal.
The fact that the front of the phone sits in the trim piece is awesome. Makes for a sandwiched and protected feel.
I like the port covers. Yes, they can be a pain to pop open for time to time but again they also seem to be built well enough to take the abuse.
Since we don't have a waterproof phone but only the nanocoating inside I like the added ingress protection that they offer.
I have the white/grey case and it is gaining some darkness on the corners but I'll blame my grubby mitts on that one.
The holster is good not great. Phone sits well in it and feels well made. Too bad its missing the kickstand in the clip.
All in all I give it a 9/10.
For the price it sells for and the protection it offers its a no brainer.

I'll do the same, if I get the blue.

I have it in white. Here are a few photos I took. The photo of the front is a bit blurry.. Sorry!
I've had one of these cases for a while. I only use it when at work and do a manual job with dust, grit, grime and angry bovines. Well they're not angry all the time! The case is the dark gray/black and is in not bad condition considering. The Moto X on the other hand is pristine despites drops out of open tractor doors, drops onto concrete and countless excursions onto cab floors.
The built in screen protector is useful as I don't have anything on my moto x 2014 screen. I tried a couple of the glass screen protectors but removed both after a short time with the edges lifting and dust getting under the lifted edges. I also like the port covers though agree both are a little tricky to open. That said I rarely open either when the case is fitted. On previous phones I've has dust and chaff get jammed in the usb port and once somehow managed to get an animal feed pellet stuck in the headphones jack.
When I ordered the Unicorn case, unbeknown to me the mrs had ordered me an Otterbox Defender case so have that as well. It seems to bulk the phone more than the Unicorn case and the rubber texture makes it less easy to remove from pockets. It is also harder to fit compared to the Unicorn but on the other hand you about need a tyre lever to remove the Unicorn. It's a good case but prefer the Unicorn. I say again I only use a case on my Moto X for work. For pleasure it goes bare
I ordered the Beetle case, and it is in my opinion, the best case I have tried for the phone.
Thanks for the suggestion

Warning: Verizon bumper case does not fit Z Force

I was reading a post on another forum about the bumper case from Verizon for the Z Force. The post stated that the case does not fit 100%. Specifically, the back bottom of the case has a lip that sits on the back of the shell. This causes the charger port opening to not be aligned and, therefore, the charger will not plug in all the way.
I did get a bumper case and confirm this is true for the Z Force. While a "thinner" USB - C cable might plug in, the OEM one does not work. The post talks about grinding away the lip and enlarging the charger port opening. I haven't done this yet as I may just return the case.
My biggest draw to this case was that I could still use mods with it. I think I might wait for Verizon or Motorola to correct the issue on their own and get that updated version.

My Droid Force Z bumper case from Verizon fits perfectly. Make sure you get the Droid Force Z case. They have three different cases for the Droid Force Z,Droid Play Z, and Moto Z at my Verizon store . I picked up the Moto Z one the first time or maybe I got a redesigned case since I picked it up yesterday.
I have 2 of these cases for mine and the wife's Moto Z Forces. No issues with the fit or charge port. Wish i would have seen them in store when we purchased. Would have saved us from scared on the edges of the device
Verizon got a second batch of the bumper cases a month or so ago. Many people are reporting that the newer cases fit without modification.

Are there any "special" cases for Snap mods?

Hello XDA,
I just bought my Moto Z2 with a Power Pack Snap recently and I have been wondering if there are Moto cases where I can use my power pack and my Moto Z2 at the same time while mine phone charges with it. I know that it shouldn't be "melted" in one cases because that's the logic of the Moto Mods, but it would be nice to know if there are Moto Z cases to use with my Moto Mods simultaneously.
Thanks in advance.
After a 7 year love affair with my Moto Droid 4 and Atrix Lapdock, I finally broke down and bought a Moto z2 Play. It will arrive monday. From what I understand of the mods, they are supposed to act like a case for the phone while they are in use, making another case redundant. That said, I'm sure there are some enterprising people with 3D printers who have made cases for the mods, a google search should yeld results. All I know for sure is that there is a physical keyboard mod and I will be purchasing it!! <3

Verizon has a bumper case for the Z2 Play that is 'compatible' with mods, as it has no back. Having cases that cover the back that are usable with mods won't likely happen as all the moto mods are a different size.

I have a Verizon Moto Z2 Play with a TUMI mod wireless charging battery and got the Verizon "bumper case". Its a clear plastic perimeter band slightly raised above the screen in front and sub-flush with the TUMI back. It provides only extended corner bumpers and edge protection. Does nothing to protect the back. Not sure if it works with other mods. Doesn't seem like it would work with any mod other than battery packs.

I have two mods and it works fine with both.
I don't have a Verizon phone as mine is unlocked and was ordered from Motorola. So I think it will work with any Moto Z2 Play.

Verizon bumper Case Issues
I have a Moto z2 Play and I use the wireless charging "cover" motomod with it. I originally purchased the only case I could find anywhere that would fit the phone with the moto mod wireless charging module installed - the bumper case from Verizon. It fits fine with the motomod installed, the problem I experienced first was I dropped my phone on a tile floor and the case did its job protecting my phone, but it broke at the bottom where the opening is for the USB connector to the phone (ie this is the weakest and most vulnerable part of the bumper. then I was trying to take the bumper off to use a different accessory with the headphone jack ( the bumper's opening for the headphone jack is fairly restrictive and lots of headphone and other connectors just won't fit through the hole to make a connection) and when I tried to snap the case off it broke in the very same spot. I'm hesitant to buy another one as I see this to be a design or construction flaw that I'll just run into again.
Bottom line - if I could just leave it on the phone with the motomod in place and not have the need to periodically remove the bumper to connect other accessories - it would be perfect. Otherwise I see this thing just breaking again and again and again, etc.
Any idea where I can find another case that would fit the Moto Z2 Play with the wireless charging moto mod cover in place?

Hello XDA,
I just bought my Moto Z2 with a Power Pack Snap recently and I have been wondering if there are Moto cases where I can use my power pack and my Moto Z2 at the same time while mine phone charges with it. I know that it shouldn't be "melted" in one cases because that's the logic of the Moto Mods, but it would be nice to know if there are Moto Z cases to use with my Moto Mods simultaneously.
Thanks in advance.

I got a edge bumper case. It allows me to attach the power pack Moto mod back that came with the phone. Here is a link to it on Amazon. Make sure to read my review of it (the one by Murf)

I just received a metal bumper case, which is now just under twenty USD on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075264W6F/ref=psdc_3081461011_t2_B075WGHPZS . I have the rubber bumper case and it's good too, but isn't attractive.
Pros: Durable, looks great and fits snugly; compatible with all of the style shells and mods I have (TUMI battery pack, JBL SoundBoost).
Cons: Maybe slightly slippery compared to rubber bumper cases; adds a little bit of weight; USB-C cables just barely make a connection due to the size of the USB-C port opening on the bottom edge of the case. I solved it by shaving off a bit of each plastic/rubber edge on the USB-C end of the cable (not the case, though you could do it with a rotary tool) with a razor blade. I did that for a couple of cables I use at home and in my car and it's great. If you carefully shave the plastic edges of the cable plugs it doesn't look bad, nor does it reduce reliability or durability of the cable.
I thought about using my rotary tool to modify the opening of the case, but I'm worried it will turn out badly and look terrible. I can always buy a new cable cheaply!
im using tech21 case. i thougt it is enough for protection

I've read that these can be used, without the back in place and with a Moto Mod installed.

I ordered one, but have yet to receive it. I'll try to recall to return here and post my opinion, once I get it.
There is also another bumper on Amazon, that is not the Verizon bumper, but it does not have great reviews.

Do you have this bumper?
Amazon reviewers report that the hole for charging is too small to accept a cable and the hinge is flimsy.
What say you?

It's due to arrive either this week or the next one. I ordered it last week but I live in Spain and it takes a bit longer. Bit you can check and indian review of the Moto Armor Pack or something like that on YouTube, it comes included.
I just bought this one
https://www.amazon.com/Bumper-Black...r=1-2&keywords=moto+z2+play+bumper&pldnSite=1
and is really good, i had a bad impression when I unpacked it, but it feels good on my hands and the motomods fits perfectly

I thought those bumper cases looked real cool and thought about getting one. Until I read reviews that it lowered the users "Bars" for the cell tower connection. The connection at my house already cuts in and out so I didn't want to take a chance on it. Good luck with yours. If you live in a big city or close to a tower you may not have any issues. I live on the fringe of my closest tower.
