Sir..when you (fxz) RSD your device, that will unroot..fairly certain there is NOT a way to "freeze root" in Titanium, but..on the other hand, I have never attempted to do so, because Titanium Pro needs root to function, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.!!

Thanks for quick response. I'm considering kit Kat upgrade when it comes. Eager to see any development for the maxx and possible exploits to unlocking boot loader.

chances of getting and unlocked BL are unlikely

Use HouseOfMoto to revert to stock, but save your apps and data.

I used it on my Maxx with the 12.15.15 update and it worked flawlessly. The new OTA hasn't been pushed to my phone yet, so I'm going back to stock 4.2.2 as we speak.

If the kk update partially flashed or your already OK kk you can't downgrade to prior recoveries or firmware

Reset qe 1/1
If you're going to return your phone on a warranty claim, be sure to remove evidence of being previously rooted. Verizon can deny claims on phones that have been rooted as it voids the warranty.
Run the following commands from a root prompt immediately before FXZ'ing:
Code:
echo -ne "0" | dd of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc bs=1 seek=5379
echo -ne "0" | dd of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc bs=1 seek=5381
rm /data/property/persist.qe
reboot bootloader
This will return your qe status to 0/0. *Note*: Don't boot up normally or into recovery before flashing, if you do, it will do the persistent root check again and reset the flag.

New OTA Update

So I just got some type of OTA update from Verizon, I have an unlocked bootloader as well as rooted. Can I install this update or will it brick? The file is under /cache/fota/update.zip 30.92mb. I thought if you was rooted you couldn't even get OTA's. Any ideas? I renamed the file so it wouldn't update even though it asked me when to install and I entered 10pm tonight to retry.

It's a pretty major security patch so hopefully someone here puts it in a package for flashing. Someone else said they just unlocked again immediately after but I'm not sure how to best approach it for you.

Rooting doesn't do anything about receiving updates, it's a particular file that is phoning home.

Do you have a rom? If not people are saying they installed update and rooted device again.
I just got it this morning as well.... I'm stock rooted and I don't want the update. Do I have to accept it? Do I need to un-root? What will happen to my Google Wallet & Google Now?
I'd like to know also, I am stock rooted, unlocked and don't know if I should accept the update or not??
I got the same update but it flashed itself into recovery and then failed to install the update. Says "install aborted"

You are right, I clicked "OK", it rebooted and went into CWM. I clicked "reboot now", when the phone finished booting I got an error message. Hopefully it won't continue doing this.
No I'm on a stock rooted ROM, it tried to install just now and failed as well.

This is because you all most likely have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM and it can only install on stock recovery. If you freeze sdm1.0 it wont keep asking you to update

I've heard that to be safe, you need to re-lock the boot loader, un-root, and go back to stock in order to accept the updates.
There is a guide to do that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253

You are okay to be rooted and do a update. I do it all the time, it just unroots you and you have to rerun ur rooting. As for the bootloader i lock it before a update

If you use version 1.2 there isn't any issues. The 1.4 in the market of the one with issues. There's a thread somewhere in here that you can download the older versions that work correctly still

Just find ez-unlock in the play store and click on the link in the description. It will take you to the app's website, which has links for all versions.

Rooting 4.1.2

I had a problem when I upgraded to 4.1.2 on my rooted 4.1.1 Razr HD Maxx. I followed the directions from the following post, and was able to reinstall 4.1.2 via fastboot files, but for some reason, Root is gone. The poster said the fastboot file would give root. Any ideas on how I can fix this problem?
You need to update to 4.1.2 using that factory fastboot files and then root again. I did the same and it made a noticeable difference in how my phone ran. I'll get you the windows link to the files. If you run Linux I'll have to upload what I've put together. Its based on mattlgroff HD utility but updates you to 4.1.2 and roots it.
Link for fastboot files. Install rsdlite and the moto drivers if in windows.

Lol. This is hilarious. Read what I posted again. I didn't say you would be rooted after fastboot flashing. I said clearly, as you quoted, that you would have to reroot. Its obvious you should use Google before you start your next thread

[Q] Upgrading/Downgrading Unlocked MAXX

Just unlocked the bootloader on my MAXX and installed TWRP/Root. I haven't tried upgrading or downgrading versions yet. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight to doing this.
My MAXX is still on 4.2.2(Jellybean) cause I didn't want to risk losing root when my bootloader was locked. Now that that's a non-issue can someone answer these question?
1) Since I'm still on 4.2.2 can I take the 4.4 OTA update even with TWRP installed?
2) If I can't take the update, then I would have to RSD up to 4.4?
3) Once on 4.4 can I go back to 4.2.2 (jellybean)? Seems I've read you can but you can't downgrade the bootloader or a bin file?
I've read differing opinions when it come to this and would like to try 4.4, even though it sounds pretty buggy (email active display, home button double, battery life, etc.) but I'd like to be able to go back if I didn't like it. I've seen a lot of people regretting that they went to KitKat because of these issues.
Thanks,
Mike

1) no, you need to be completely stock with stock recovery
2) RSD is an option
3) you can "downgrade" from 4.4 to 4.2.2 by flashing all the files except the motoboot.img and the gpt.bin. just don't downgrade to the pre-camera update (12.7.7) and then take an OTA because you will hard brick
Thanks for the info!
Mike
I also had a similar question. I unlocked the bootloader and am on 4.4 stock rom. If i want to relock the bootloader and return to stock 4.4 without root can i just rsd lite using the 4.4 fxz? Hoping that brings the recovery to stock as well, in case there are future otas
An fxz will bring you back to stock and you are ready ri take an ota but it does not relock the bootloader

Yes, a full fxz will restore the stock recovery and unroot you. You can relock just not sure why you would want to plus it will always show that the device as status code 2 which means it has been unlocked at some point

Can we run the 4.4.2 firmware (Topsnakes ported from X) on our maxx with 4.2.2 gpt and bootloader and motoboot? I know we can go backwards but not sure if you can go newer software and older boot and so forth.
Thanks
1080xt root 12.15.15
Was also wondering if we were to load the 4.4.2 ported from the Moto X if we can roll back to 4.2.2 12.15.15 if we just don't try to load the motoboot.bin and the gpt.bin.

Well, you can downgrade to 4.4, take the 4.4.4 OTA, and then flash the latest TWRP and install the apropiate root for the phone.
I was already at 4.4 then took the ota to 4.4.4 seems to be several versions of twrp. Just wondering what works for the maxx and does root change with the new ota?

Use whatever version you want, 2.7 works though. The update didn't require stock recovery or removing of root though. Not sure what you mean by does root change but same process as it has always been.

Flashed in TWRP. Same end result with half the headache.
I thought I had to go back to stock to take the update so I did. Sorry I didn't keep twrp and do it that way. Oh well. Thanks for the replies I really appreciate it.

Currently im on 4.4, unlocked bootloader and thats all.
In order to get root, should i flash first twrp, root and then take the ota?
And other question.. ¿Its possible to lock again the bootloader? Im afraid to unlock it again, i spend $25

If your unlocked there is no way to lock the phone, flash twrp and boot into it, it will ask you to root on exiting.
Thank you ¿even if i try whit fastboot oem lock?

Need quick advice please

Sorry if this question has been asked before phone is xt925 I'm still on stock Jb I've just unlock bootloader using Razr HD-Toolkit5.0 I wanted to know this is safe if I can processed update to KitKat over the air? Without having cwm recovery

I think yes, Because your botloader is already unlocked and root for KK has been posted.
Safe?

Unlocking your bootloader just enabled you to flash files to your phone... If you do not know how to do this you can brick your phone, but it will still update over the air using stock software. The unlocked bootloader will allow you to root or install custom backup...
If you want the update, push the button. If you do not, it will keep asking unless you turn off "Motorola OTA"
