I have searched and came up with no results, can the xt926 BL unlock exploit be used in the xt925?
I ask because if I unlock my 925 with the official moto tool it will be blacklisted and i will lose warranty...
The only difference between both is the unlockable BL and the radios so it *should* work, right?
has anyone tried this?
Yes it should work, it is good for any of the Moto phones with the newer snapdragon chipset (Razr HD, Atrix HD and Razr M).

You'll still might have a warranty problem if you send it in for a repair. You might not be blacklisted and you might flash a custom logo that doesn't have the bootloader unlocked screen, but that's a superficial and cosmetic fix.

Not really, over here the warranty is honored by certified 3rd party shops that in most cases repair our phones themselves (instead of the carrier dealing with it), mostly they only check for the warranty status via IMEI number before repairing it (thats from experience). This "cosmetic fix" is exactly what im looking for.

ill either give it some time for possible defects to arise before using the official method OR for someone that actually tries it and posts here his results

I unlocked the bootloader on my 926 on Verizon. I installed the replacement Moto boot image for the cosmetic effect. If you boot the phone into the Fastboot screen the menu does say the phone is unlocked. According to the creator of the unlock exploit, Dan Rosenberg, the unlock blows a fuse inside the CPU chip and the unlocking is permanent. Even Verizon can't re-lock it with a firmware update. Your warranty would be permanently voided. But as was said, if a third party shop is only looking for a covered IMEI you should be good.
I know that you can go to Motorola's site to unlock the bootloader on the Motorola version of Moto G. Does the Google Edition of the G automatically come with an unlocked bootloader? Several sources have different specs. Engaget reports that the Google version comes with an unlocked bootloader, a few other sources say no. Can anyone clear this up for me, I just ordered my Google Play edition because my area has the new 1900mhz coverage.
Update: Here is Engaget's quote" Lastly, the Google Play edition will come with an unlocked bootloader straight out of the box, in case you prefer to play around with different ROMs. (You can technically unlock the bootloader on the original G, but you have to go through the proper steps to do it.) I will get mine today, and report back with the results.
I would think it is locked?
My nexus 4 from the play store had a locked bootloader.

I don't see any reason to doubt what Engadget says. I assume that they have checked it as they placed a handson video: http://www.engadget.com/2014/01/16/moto-g-google-play-edition-hands-on/
GPE devices don't come with a unlocked bootloader. But all it takes is one simple command line to unlock it.

You're thinking of Nexus devices. GPe's still need to go through their respective manufacturer to unlock the bootloader. Like the HTC One GPe. You could unlock the bootloader, but you still needed to go through HTC's Dev site to do it.
No you don't. The regular HTC One needs to go through HTC Dev (like you do with the G) but the GPe One works with just 'fastboot oem unlock', no token or anything.
Does the Moto G Play Store Edition show the same warning if the Bootloader is unlocked when powering on?
It's probably have a open padlock on bootup like the others
is there any real difference on these two devices aside from how the bootloader is unlocked?

Hello,
The bootloader on the Moto G play store edition is unlockable simply with the $ fastboot oem unlock command. You do not need an unlock code from the motorola web site to unlock it. You do need to read and agree on to the disclaimer on device.
After unlock, the experience is akin to the nexus experience, and the power-on screen will just show the "Unlocked" icon (open keylock)
Thanks

so the method for flashing roms and everything is identical afterwards? no messing about flashing kernel via pc like with htc devices?
So if the GPE version can be unlocked without any token it would be fine if we could use the GPE Bootloader on the normal Moto G and make a backup of the existing one. Would this help us to make a workaround for the warranty problem? Is this possible?
Should be, yes. As long as a complete image comes out for the GPe.
They've done it on the HTC One.

But that was a HTC decision not a Google one in guess, however, hope this theory will become practicable.
It is itching in my fingertips to unlock since i have this device ( exactly 1 week). Now i'll wait definitely longer.
Curious to know what comes up.
What I mean is that users of the HTC One users have the option to use the GPe bootloader, thanks to S-OFF.
With the G you can flash other firmwares without unlocking as long as they're signed, so it should install no trouble (as long as an image is found).

Update: I just got my Moto G Play Edition, first..I love it. upgrading from a Galaxy S II, much better display, works great. The bootloader is locked.
Here is an update from Engaget: Update: it turns out that the Google Play edition's bootloader is just like the standard version -- it's unlockable, but not unlocked directly out of the box.
I will wait a few months to see if other Roms come out for the "G" before I unlock the bootloader and root the phone.
I have the Google Play Edition of the Motorola G and was able to easily unlock the bootloader using the "fastboot oem unlock" command. Due to some unrelated hardware isues, I need to send the device back to Google for a refund but would like to relock the bootloader first. I tried simply issuing a "fasboot oem lock" command but that fails. I also tried issing a "fastboot oem lock begin" command but then it says its ready to flash an image which I don't want to do (and I don't have any images to flash either). I tried searching but everything here seems to be for the Motorola-issued for the version of the G (not the GPE). Any help or advice for how to relock the bootloader in the GPE is greatly appreciated. Thanks (and sorry if this is the wrong forum for posting this request)!

GPE does not require/use a Moto code to unlock the bootloader. Just boot into fastboot, and ADB "fastboot oem unlock".
But gpe is a thing, nexus is other. I saw other users with moto g gpe not enabled to unlock simply in that way. They had need to asl always the code to motorola.
So how can possible in this case?
If you say the true then you shoul relock bootloader in that easy way without code. So how can possible?
If you see the diff between bl stock and gpe you will see that them are completely equals. Or you have a new completely different bl?
I think not honestly...

I cannot speak as to the experience of others. I only know that unlocking my GPE was as easy as the Nexus, no Motorola code required. With the help of another forum member, I was able to relock the bootloader using some ADB commands and a stock image of the GPE rom. Again, no Motorola code required.
Which stock image? A stock gpe image downloaded?
But how is it possible if bootloader are equals. See a diff. It's really strange. I need confirmation from others with same native version.

Yes, a stock GPE image. Since I have a GPE Moto G and I was trying to relock the bootloader, the stock GPE ROM is obviously the only image I would download for my GPE Moto G.
I think there is a language barrier here because I do not know what you mean by ""bootloader are equals." There is clearly a difference between the GPE and non-GPE versions as far as their bootloaders go because one obviously requires a code from Motorola and the other does not. Whether you want to believe what I am telling you or not is your choice but all I know is that no code was required to unlock my GPE Moto G bootloader. If you don't want to believe that, that is your decision but it doesn't negate the simple truth that I have already stated (no Moto code required for my GPE Moto G).

Gpe version is worst then non gpe version. Faux says the same. Why someone should be gpe on this phone. Non gpe has f2fs on data and is equal about softwares. The gpe on this phone is a non sense.

I'm not sure if the image is signed but for me, it didn't make a difference. I bought the device from the Play store and was able to use that image to relock my GPE Moto G bootloader.
I notice that the Moto G LTE from Cricket wont permit the Bootloader to be unlocked.
I am wondering, if you have your Cricket Moto G LTE unlocked (by this i mean sim unlock, not bootloader) and you then flash another carrier stock image - i.e. XT1040, etc - would it be possible to then unlock the bootloader? (I am assuming that if you flash XT1040 on XT1045 it's the same hardware, the only issue would be the radios..but if it's sim unlocked, then it shouldn't matter)
Or, is Motorola going by the IMEI #, which would stay the same if you flash another factory image?

Also interested in unlocking the Cricket Moto G LTE XT1045 bootloader as well.
Please update if you're able to get this to work.
Pretty sure the generated code is determined from the hardware. So flashing another ROM wouldn't change it.
That being said, I'm pretty sure Cricket versions of the Moto G LTE are never getting Lollipop. I spoke with a Cricket rep yesterday and they said the company had no plans to upgrade. So unless someone here can figure out some magical way to unlock the bootloader, we're all screwed.

I also talked to a Cricket rep yesterday about a Lollipop update. He said it was going to be a manufacturer, not carrier update. I asked him again to confirm because of what Motorola's site said. He confirmed again that it is based on what the manufacturer (Motorola) wants to do.

You can't flash ANYTHING with a locked bootloader. Cricket can update it, should they choose to, but as far as Motorola is concerned, Cricket owns the phone - not you. You can't unlock the bootloader unless you bought a RETAIL version of the phone - like I did from Amazon. You paid a lot less by buying the phone from Cricket and, in return, you gave up all right/hope of having an unlocked bootloader.
And, yes, everything goes by the IMEI, which is unique to the phone and never changes. If it were to change, your phone would no longer work on your carrier. The phone using that IMEI is registered as belonging to Cricket - that's why you can't unlock it on it the Motorola site. For the phone I bought at Amazon, I just went to the Motorola site and had my phone bootloader unlocked in five minutes. If you want a bootloader unlockable phone, you don't want to buy it from a carrier.
Update
I just spoke with Cricket who forwarded me to Motorola who said that my Moto G (1st Gen, LTE), purchased through Cricket, would be updated to 5.X within a month.
I'll try to update this if it actually happens. I didn't ask about the bootloader.

Well it was because they had a faulty OTA 4.4.4 that when you upgraded from 4.4.2 it would hardbrick devices that unlocked their bootloader. Though I never told them that, just said that it just turned off during charging and after that it wouldn't turn on.

Actually they could easily if they wanted to even if my phone was dead, since when you request unlock code from Moto they void your warranty even if you didn't use it to unlock the bootloader which means that the service centre might be able to check if I requested an unlock code(some sort of database maybe? Idk) but they didn't so yeah pretty lucky.
