Replace IOS with Android? - General Questions and Answers

Just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to remove IOS from an ipod or iphone and install Android instead, I had seen a video a year or so ago on youtube of someone who did it but was having issues with battery and other hardware / software issues, googling seems to only offer the fake Android screen not the OS.

[Q] Re-purpose old Palm Pre Plus

First, I am aware of the controversy regarding removing webOS from the Pre. I've searched for an answer to this question for weeks.
Second, I no longer use the Pre Plus as my phone, (I have upgraded to a Droid 2 Global) but hate to see perfectly good hardware go unused.
So my question is this: Since HP is discontinuing the palm line and the Palm Pre Plus on Verizon never received the updated webOS, what are my viable options for an alternative operating system?
I would love to get Android on there, but would be happy with any option that would turn this phone into more of a workable hand held. We would like to use it to stream from Pandora/Slacker, use it as an mp3 player, check weather, play simple games like Angry Birds, and Netflix would be awesome but we realize that may be a pipe dream.
Any legitimate, workable suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The underlying linux distribution is fairly robust. I run sshd and lighttpd services as well as some cron tasks and have my favorite editor installed. You can treat is just like a mini-linux server on your network if you like... It can also run X and remote X sessions...

[Q] [Discussion] iPhone running Android possible?

Hi, I was just browsing through YouTube and came across a very old video about the [meanwhile dead] iDroid-Project which made it possible to install Android as a Dual-Boot-Option on an iPhone 2G/3G. The group of the devs which was working on it didn't got along with each other anymore after some time, Apple fixed the security holes which made this possible and the project died off. I was just wondering if such a project would still be possible on newer (jailbroken) iPhones if somebody would discover the necessary exploits What are your thoughts about this? :good:

[Q] Android to Windows: apps question

Recently there has been a few teasers regarding Windows 10 for PC, Tablet, and Phones. Pretty soon the Galaxy S6 will be coming out and since I'm already a Samsung customer, my initial thought is to go with that... But when I think about windows 10 and its possibilities, it makes me reconsider. So I have some questions. Please understand that I know Windows 10 is vague so far, but hopefully some of my questions can be answered based on existing windows phones/tablet
One of the strongest reasons I'm considering Windows 10 OS (PC, Phone, and Tablet) is full immersion and connectivity. Currently Im able to use my Samsung Tablet and phone to completely control my computer, transfer files and connect in other ways. Since my computer doubles as my entertainment center, this is necessary.
Question 1.) It sounds like if you get a Windows 10 Tablet you'll be able to use the Tablet as a secondary controller and screen for XBox One. Does anyone know if this is true or not? Is the feature also expected to be part of Windows 10 Phones?
Question 2.) Up until now Ive avoided Windows 8(.1) and iOS like the plague... so I'm only familiar with Android. Android has allowed customization to the screen layout with app shortcuts and widgets. They apps and widget are how I control my computer like I was talking about earlier. That said, does anyone know how many apps are cross platform? and I just mean a general ballpark idea based on experience, like 60% or 85% or something. Is there a way to find out if a particular app is available on windows?
Question 3.) For now, I'm sure most answers to this next question will be speculation, but does anyone know if the screen customization for windows 10 phones will be as it is for current windows 8(.1) phones? Will they allow shortcuts and widgets instead of rubix cube tiles?

Question: hardware capabilities of Samsung s6 - looking to mod s6 into monitor

Does the capability to direct video input through the usb jack on the phone exist- perhaps as an unused feature?
I have a tmobile s6, I am hoping to use it as part of a project, and I would much rather not have to mod the hardware of the phone. The attractiveness of a sleek and complete device with its own battery, charger and a high-res screen is hard to pass up.
There are a lot of solutions out there to use a smartphone as a monitor- most are crazy hacks and/or rely on some flavor of remote desktop, and that's not going to be good enough for my project- I need snappy video with very little if any delay, and I am hoping to find a way to take a functioning android s6 (hopefully only with software) get it to work as a monitor.
I am hoping that either an app or modding an android distro might result in some viable solution. Does anyone know about this? Thank you in advance for any help.

Setting up a tablet as a 3rd or 4th PC monitor

Hey guys.
So i just bought a couple of tablets (Samsung Tab 4 and an iPad mini) for almost no money at all.
I won't really be using these tablets for their normal purpose. I personally don't really use any apps - am more for optimizing my PC.
Instead, i'm looking to strip them of their OS and to connect them as a 3rd and 4th monitor for my PC.
Some things are nice to do with a touch screen - like browsing ebay and also to compare color graded videos on tablets, which my viewers often use to watch my works. But i don't have any use of anything else from the android or iOS side.
I know that there are lots of apps and so forth to be doing similar things, but i do not wish to keep the Android or iOS elements. I just want the tablets to work just like a simple monitor (i am willing to rebuild them if this is needed).
I can't find any good information regarding this though, as most threads (both here and on other sites) refer me to apps - which is contraproductive to my purpose - having small touch-screen monitors for my PC.
Is there anyone that has any ideas on how to modify tablets to work as simple monitors for a PC?
thanks in advance!

I would like to add, that using them wirelessly (with USB/Bluetooth docks would be quite a nice feature!!!).
I don't think it can be done the way you want unless you tear them apart completely, connect the touch and LCD flat to some kind of converter and leave the rest hanging behind.
This is if you want to use them both like real monitors.
Try stuff like Duet (for the iPad) and spacedesk for the android.
I have no idea how will they like each other, but worths a try.
You're out of luck, you got practically no chance of using them as stand-alone monitors.
The best you could do is use some kind of a remote viewing software on the tablets, and handle it that way.
