google implemented this feature of wifi always on, (if off it is running in the background) to provide a better localization service, based on wifi networks localization near to you. eg in buildings localization acquiring is much faster!
you can disable this in advanced wifi settings!

[Q] disable pattern/pin/password lock from activation

hi, a friend of mine had a request to prevent the demo android phones placed at his shop from being locked by customers. how can i prevent the pattern/pin/password security locks from being activated, or how do i remove this feature from the demo phones?
thanks
Turn it off in settings???¿¿¿???
If you're talking about after it has been locked, reflash the software if it doesn't have a fastboot/bootloader/recovery reset.

If they're connected to wifi then install "unlock with wifi " on them and hide the app?

he's been doing reflash every time a phone has been locked, and its getting on his nerves as this happens almost on a daily basis. is there a way to rip the security pattern/pin/password functionality from the android framework? or is there any apk that we can remove from /system/app that will disable this functionality?

i think wifi is out of the question as he doesn't want passerbys to use his wifi connection for hacking/illegal purposes.
You can just lock down the WiFi with WPA2 and it will most likely not get broken into.

Download one of the many app locks and just password protect settings and then turn the pattern lock off..
//edit- Inside of the app lock see if you can only password protect display settings.. so customers can at least play with the other settings

Unlock with wifi is an app that uses trigger(a known wifi location) to unlock the screen...
It's not a tethering app.
So, what is this in reference to?
I'd expect that he might have a wireless router in a cell phone store already. And would know to encrypt it.

Location service doesn't work over wifi?

Think title says it all.
running lbc rom
My location service functions correctly , can detect where I am , therefore downloads and displays the weather when I'm out on mobile daya connection but when I'm at hone on wifi connection it always fails.
Just want to know if I'm alone or is this the case for everyone and is there anything I can do to fix it.

How strange....
tried all those clear caches butr no difference noticed
When I try on wi-fi I get the error "Unable to connect to the location service to update your current location"
that's after clicking on the weather feature in the main Sense clock and refreshing when the weather app loads.
I also get the notification "Unable to connect to the location service to update your current location"...
But after some restarts or connect/disconnect to the mobile net, the location can be get...
... Orz...This is the so-called INTERESTING ...
My experience is:
HTC Sensation (GB 2.3.4 and now ICS 4.0.3stock-same situation on both):
Slovak localization on Android:
3G internet: OK
wifi: "Unable to connect to the location service to update your current location" and weather shows "Actual location" instead of my town
English localization on Android:
3G internet: OK
wifi: OK
Strange

[Bug-Fix] Solution for wifi-shutdown in standby (no root required)

UPDATE: There is an app in the play store called 'Advanced Wifi Lock (Free)' which fixes this problem and DOES NOT need root

Some (or maybe the most) users reported that the phone loses wifi signal after a few minutes in standby. I probably found a way to fix this. All you need to do is:
5. change the line 'gEnableSuspend=3' to 'gEnableSuspent=1'
PS: Keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader using htcdev will most likely void or at least constrain your warranty

Are you sure about the gEnableSuspenT (changing d to t)?

Yeah I found out about the wifi lock issue when I got my sony tablet, advanced wifi lock is the perfect solution!
for me the wifi lock causes very low standby hours. anyone having the same issue?
If I did not misunderstand what you mean by WiFi shutdown, there is an option in WiFi setting which keeps WiFi on even phone is in sleep mode (standby).
Go to:
WiFi list, menu, advanced, keep WiFi on during sleep, select always.
No 3rd party app needed.

That's exactly why this thread exist...
the 'keep on' function doesn't work for some users.

OK, if that's the case, ignore my post then, but I did not really see any where mentioning the "keep one" function not working in this thread, so had no idea... maybe good to add it somewhere just to avoid further confusion
By the way, the "keep on" function works fine for me, so maybe something to do with the router? or wifi band (802.11a/b/n)?

Have been looking for this solution awhile... finally found something that is useful!!! Thanks a lot!!!
This app causes massive battery drain. For me, I updated my device with ics ruu and this problem was gone, but a week ago when I did a factory reset the problem reappeared.

Thanks for sharing. I would've tried it out if it weren't for the fact that my current rom has no problems with wifi connectivity at all.
However, I will keep this app in mind just in case .

WiFi always on

Even with location services off and WiFi off why does WiFi appear on all the time?

No need to factory reset. Go to settings > wifi > advanced > (uncheck the option for always scanning)
