I love my N5 and love it even more with a custom ROM. (So far Cataclysm is what I live for) but on just about all the Roms I've tried. I constantly get service disconnects and/or poor service. I am on Sprint and ever since 4.4.2 came out the Sprint hack zip hasn't worked. I tried the radio zip released for 4.4.2 but it didn't work either. I get LTE, 3G, and all fine. But out of nowhere it'll disconnect randomly until I either reboot or enable/disable airplane mode. Sometimes that doesn't even fix it. I'm stuck on stock now. Does anyone know why this happens? I hear sprint has issues with us. And its not related to the ROM. I've tried CWM. TWRP. Nothing helps.

Hi,
I have an HTC One XL from AT&T.
It is SIM UNLOCKED and BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED. It is running CleanROM.
The problem is that my phone looses 3G connectivity and the only way to recover it it's rebooting the phone. The 3G still shows but there is no activity and the apps try to connect until they say "network problem".
I don't use it on AT&T as I live overseas. I do not have LTE so my phone is set to "WCDMA preferred"
I tried with other roms (CyanogenMOD 10, MIUI, etc.) and with almost every RADIO (flashing them with TRWP Recovery and wiping cache/dalvik after).
When 3G/HDSPA works, internet works really fast... but then it "disconnects" and everything sucks.
What do you recommend?
Best Regards.
Not a fix, but have you tried turning airplane mode on/off rather than restarting your phone?
I used to get this problem constantly with stock. Once I installed Viper, I haven't had a problem since. Don't know enough about radios to tell you if a new rom flashes a different radio though.
Try going into recovery, and wiping cache and Dalvik. Similar to area51avenger, I've had this same problem on a couple ROMs, and wiping cache and Dalvik fixed it. Might not work for everyone, but it can't hurt.
My friend i aleady tried that without any good result.

do you have the right APN? if you dont have the correct apn for the LTE network then it will drop connection whenever it searches for one. Maybe just run on WCDMA/gsm instead of WCDMA/GSM/LTE. It solved the problem for me on rogers here in Canada on cleanROM
I have the right APN.
Here we dont have LTE so I run the phone in WCDMA/GSM only... no LTE
Problem persist.
Also replace the phone IS NOT AN OPTION

Is there something like fast dormacy?
Please, need help.
I've had the same experience on both rooted and non-rooted HOX's with various ROMs. I have concluded that it has nothing to do with the ROMs and more to do with the HOX itself but only when not on LTE. Before LTE was turned on in metro Detroit I had this problem constantly. I use the Airplane mode trick to resolve the issue in most cases. Now when I'm in an LTE coverage area my data is very reliable but as soon as I'm somewhere that doesn't have it (rural areas or inside with a poor signal) that ugly problem returns. It sucks because it's clearly a widespread issue that may never get resolved and I don't know who to hate at this point.
Hey Guys!
I swear I read this some where before, but I can't find it now: Somebody was talking about the N5 binaries being posted recently and noticed that CDMA wasn't mentioned. Another person chimed in and said that ASOP ROMS wouldn't work the same, or as well, when using a nexus 5 on Sprint. Can anybody elaborate on that? I understand that CDMA was an issue for ASOP on older devices.
I am using DroidKang v2 which is the latest unofficial nightly for CM11 on my Sprint. My signal is low on the LTE, might be a problem where tri-band is not activated on AOSP? Also PRL provisioning does not work in the settings.
Kangkat works for me. I first found out about this issue when I tried to flash purity rom. My data was just gone, but could make phone calls. Is it something with the rom or on sprint's side? Its very disappointing.

With kangkat, you have full (voice /data/sms/mms) network functionality? But with purity you did not?
Looks like most devs are fixing the issue. :good:

Mine worked on the stock rom, make sure your setting is set to GLOBAL then you will get the Carrier menu. However I had to put my Nexus back to AT&T because it would constantly Random Reboot once the screen turned off. Very odd.
Hey guys. This is my second nexus5 ( first one had some screen bleeding issues) and I'm kind of upset. I love the phone..love anything nexus but people are calling me and it goes to voicemail. It doesn't always happen, and seems to happen more on WiFi than anything else. Happens rooted or not, Google voice or messaging apps installed or not, stock or custom ROM..
I swapped the Sim card, factory reset, unroofed/flashed stock..etc all that jazz and still happening. I'm probably going to go to my local T-Mobile store and swap this one out too I really like the nexus and don't want to have to get another phone but if this is an issue I just might.
Any thoughts? Have any of u had issues like this ?

Try forcing your mobile data into 3G mode instead of LTE for the time being. I had this issue as well where I was missing calls without my phone even realizing it got a call. The only way I knew was that the caller either left a voice-mail or my Google voice sent an email that I missed it. I'm also on T-Mobile, though I got my phone from Google.
Switching to 3G mode seemed to have resolved it.

I had this issue when I use to walk around with my wifi radio enabled all the time to snag wifi when I was on campus. Not a good idea. Something is up with the wifi to cellular radio handoff. I would lose the ability to get calls/ texts in a timely manner without a reboot. For now, Wifi is a no go. Gets buggy
My Nexus 5 frequently loses mobile data connectivity. Its been happening since I purchased it, but the frequency with which it happens has increased since I flashed the M1 snapshot of CM. I've since flashed the second snapshot from early January, but it has not made any difference.
This is the same sim card that ive used with my nexus 4 and my htc one without any problems, and I've made no changes in my wireless carrier.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to why this happens?
Try a different, maybe older, radio. If that doesn't help go back to stock and see if it persists.

Flash the Nexus factory image. If that fixes it, its a problem on CM's side

hi.
i was this problem too, not exaactly the same, but somehow similar. I have 3g connection, the signal bar shows H and somtimes 3G, but the speed is freaking slow, worse than 2g. Initially I thought its something wrong with my phone, been changing ROMS to see if it is the issue, but no. Then I flash the latest baseband / radio, and still doesnt help.
Be reminded I am on 4G plan, but never had any 4g network ( it is not because i'm not in an area with no 4g network )
I was very frustrated and emo at the same time, thinking of RMA the phone, thought it is the radio chip problem.
but then... I called my telco, asking why I'm experiencing slow connection and bla bla, and I don't have 4g network. They keep saying my network is working perfectly, and running normally, I requested them to reset my network connection. They agreed and asked me to turn off the phone for a few minutes then they reset the network for me.
After that, everything is running perfectly.
This was 2 days ago. And guess what, I don't have any 4g connections now again. Stupid telco, I'm going to call them later when i'm free. grrr.
but please make a call to your telco and ask them.
Hope that helps
I had my N5 on Sprint for a few months and didn't see any difference in signal from my S4.
I switched to Cricket and everything was fine for a bit.
I manually updated to 5.0.1 and have a build of lrx22c Baseband is m8974a-2.0.50.2.22
kernel 3.4.0-g88fbc66
My battery is draining like crazy and I see that Cell Standby is high, looking at it, I see %46 time without signal.
Person in the next office has a One Plus One and has full signal all the time.
I am thinking of resetting back to default, but wanted to post here to see if anyone has any clues.
Try another radio perhaps. Otherwise, nothing else you can do about it.... Except disable data when your signal is bad... That will all but stop the drain. ?
I had same problem, flashed stock image from Google and all was fixed for me
Yeah flash stock. Also which network mode are you in? It sounds like you may be in LTE only.
