Nexus 5 or new HTC One/S5? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, if money was no issue, would you wait for the new HTC One Two or Samsung S5? Or would you still buy a Nexus 5? Either way, why?

I would get the N5 now, and once those come out, if you like them, get either one. I went from S4, to HTC One, to now the N5. Didn't realize how much I missed the pure Android experience

Why do you prefer the Nexus 5 to the HTC One?
I've had the 5 but due to glitches galore returned 2 handsets.
I said that if the new HTC wasn't round the corner I'd buy the current HTC One. It just seems to be a much more all round and solid phone.
The only reason why I don't want to buy the 5 now and replace later is due to losing out money when I come to sell it.

The One is a really nice bit of kit, but for me there was nothing it had that made it a must-buy. The boom sound speakers are great but I don't actually use my mobile phone to play music using the speakers; same with the camera, I don't use my phone to take pictures too often as I have a half decent camera. Sense 5 is better than sense 4/4+ but is still full of useless bloat; and while the build is nice, that's not what I'm looking for in a phone (I leave that to apple users).

Htc one x vs Nexus 4

I've recently been thinking of switching to Nexus 4 i've been doing research and all i read is positive feedback but i want to know if it would be worth it to change from an HTC ONE X to a nexus 4 , whats better
The N4 is undobutedly better but why upgrade from a One X? The hardware of the One X is still good, IMO it's not worth upgrading to a N4. Spend some time reading then flash CM10.1 and you're good to go.

Nexus 4 has a awful camera comparing to one x.
Nexus 4 has a inferior screen... You will feel the difference as soon as u get it.
nexus 4 has is developer community and cheaper price. So u get what u pay for..I can put it that way.
Not a bad deal in the end.

Take into consideration the fact that the Nexus 4 has a glass back - in case you're likely to drop it a lot!

If you don't buy the N4 from the Play Store then there's no point in buying it at all. The brilliant thing about the N4 is that you get so much for such a low price, if you take away the value for money then you end up seeing that there are probably better choices available.
I've just ordered a N4 myself from the Play Store, but I currently have an HD2 so it's a pretty huge upgrade. As for the person who said 'Nexus 4 has a awful camera comparing to one x' and that it has an inferior screen, they're just exaggerating. The N4 camera is more than adequate, and not significantly worse than those on the One X, SGS3 and iPhone 5. The screen of the N4 is a bit odd (15:9 rather than 16:9 without on screen buttons) but has a higher pixel density than the One X's and probably equally good colour reproduction.
If latest Android update is most important to you, go for it.
Keep in mind you are losing LTE though.

HTC ONE S upgrade

Hey everyone. A sad time indeed. My 1yr old doing his exploring has thrown my beloved one s down the stairs and broke her the case cracked open and some insides were broken. Only faults I can find so far are that my sound no longer works. Speaker nor headset so I am looking to replace her. I bought her the first day T-Mobile released the one s and loved her since having rooted her and running a great 4.2.2 ROM on her since she never left ICS.
Though it brings me to near tears to ask this, does anyone have any recommendations for a new phone? I heard something about a new HTC one series and other thoughts are nexus 4 and galaxy s4. I prefer top of the line devices but easy to root and good ROM supports are a must.

No replies? Hmm damn.
I've narrowed it to either the Nexus 4 or the SG3 if I don't decide to just replace my One S Lol. I really am in love with this phone.

It completely depends on your preference. Hardware is constantly evolving and so are options. You say you love your one s but you need to ask yourself what you love about it. If you love the comfortable sense feeling, you could look into the new htc one, though sense 5 is a vast difference from previous versions. If you want the best hardware on the market go with the s4. If you like the smaller size check out the nexus 4. Personally, I would recommend the S4. Guaranteed huge rom support and as top of the line as you could get this year. Do some research and see what fits you. Im a Note 2 user of about 3 months and love it more every day.

If you can wait a little longer Google will announce the new Motorola X series, perhaps this can be of promise as well.

If you want build quality (emphasis - it is stunning), like HTC's sense rom, want the beats audio/boomsound, and maybe other things I definitely would recommend the HTC One. Even with my perfect-condition One S was contemplating the switch to the One but decided to save money. Since you want a new phone, there's nothing stopping you! The phone is also slightly larger at 4.7" (whereas the One S is 4.3").
Let us know what you choose.
Edit: Awkward didn't realize you had actually bought the Nexus 4 already. Great quality build budget phone that is on the smaller side too. (Just a little outdated as the Nexus 5 is being anticipated but it will still get quick android updates).

Nexus 5 vs. HTC One performance experience question.

I know these threads drive people nuts. I'm a phone junky. Over the last 2 years I've had at least 4 phones. Although i've had my HTC One since launch day - coming up on one year.
I hate skins on android. That's why I root and install an AOSP based ROM on my devices. I also like battery life and A2DP Bluetooth streaming.
So...anyone out there think the nexus is a worthwhile upgrade?. I'm already running KitKat. Software is no advantage the Nexus has. However... Is the Nexus a worthy upgrade? I have read that battery life was disappointing at launch. Is it still bad? What does the N5 offer over my One?

I had the One before the N5. Nothing wrong with the One, but honestly the only thing I miss is the speakers. I personally like the bigger screen, and I'm getting better battery life now. Overall better experience, imo.

My 2 cents give the nexus the skip.
i had the htc one and the gs4.. sold my htc one to get the gs4.. then sold my gs4 to get the nexus 5.. i think the n5 is way better the both the gs4 and one.. thats just me.. this is my first nexus phone i love it.. i been threw like 6 top of the line phone in the past 3 yaers.. htc evo 4g.. htc evo 3d.. htc evo 4g LTE.. GS3. HTC ONE.. GS4... Nexus 5 is my fev phone out of all of them
I went from the GS4 to the N5 and haven't regretted it for a second. Out of 12 phones that I've owned over the last 3-4 years, this is easily the best one.
Get the N5 and keep the One.

Let me tell you a story:
Once upon a time, there was a guy who wanted an awesome new android phone. He decided to buy an HTC amaze as that was probably the best phone on the market at the time. He got it 1 month after the phone came out on the market and it was awesome. He enjoyed using it for 9 mos. before HTC decided to stop supporting their FLAGSHIP phone! Alas that phone was relegated to ICS forever.
Then, his girlfriend wanted a new phone and he thought, well, maybe it was just my bad luck to buy the HTC amaze right before HTC decided to realign their phone offerings. The HTC One S looks very good and it has the latest snapdragon S4 chip in it. So he bought her that phone and 9 mos later, HTC announces no more updates after android 4.1.2!
Moral of the story: stick with HTC one if you want an obsolete android OS in 1 year.

Battery life is as good or better. I still have my One and mainly use it to play music, but the Nexus outperforms it in every way and also seems to have a better antenna than the One. Plus, the Nexus has ART which I know is not supported on the HTC One because of Sense.
It's a very worthy upgrade. I do miss the speakers, Aux Sound Output, and sometimes a few 'Sense' things like BlinkFeed and the features in the stock messaging app.
I was in the same Situation like you and i dont regret getting the n5 at all. I had the GpE of the one and still the n5 beats it by a longshot. Speakers and build quality aside the n5 wins everything

I had the HTC One before the Nexus 5 as well, and I love the Nexus. The One is a great phone, but the One has 1) A faster chipset 2) bigger screen 3) STOCK Android (yay!!!)
However, if you're satisfied with your One.. just keep it. Unless you're dead set on having stock Android. The One does have some nice features, like the speakers (yes, stereo speakers) and very good build quality, compared to the Nexus 5 at least, which doesn't seem to fit together perfectly like the One.
As for battery life, I would say it's about equal. They both have the same size battery.

Good luck getting a 90% working ROM for the phone once htc stops supporting it. The Amaze and One S ROMs all have major things broken on it, whether it is Bluetooth or camera or something else not working or not working correctly. So I would say software for HTC phones are important.

The HTC One does have the benefit of being a GE supported device. Can't predict how that'll play out yet. Besides that, you statement is accurate. I came from ATT with and Atrix4g... the hardware is still great. But zero software support from the OEM and all the ROMs available aren't DD material for someone that uses their phone as part of business.
Hence the move to my HTC One on Sprint/Ting... Just to find out that I should have bought a cheap used nexus s and waited for a N5. :/
The way that I understand the GPE phones work is that Google releases the operating system to HTC and then they optimize it to work with their phone before they push out an update. So updates still have to pass through HTC. If they decide to end support for the one, I doubt they'll continue supporting the GPE phone.

That's just it. Even though the UI of the GPE One is all Google, it actually uses the stock Sense kernel. Once HTC stops updating the phone, it stops for the Google Edition as well.

Sell Nexus 5 and get Galaxy S5 ?

What do you think about Galaxy S5 ?
Is it worth alternative for a future upgrade ?
No

It's a downgrade in my opinion. Touchwiz is really, really bad.
It depends what you want to do with the phone.. Are you trying to run custom Roms. Root has been achieved, but not sure if Knox will be cracked to get to the bootloader.. I would wait and see how it goes. The new HTC one may be a better route. I know you can use bootstrap to run customs Roms. I just don't think they run as good as when you have an unlocked bootloader.

I played with an S5 in Best Buy yesterday. Definitely a downgrade. It's still stuttery like other galaxy phones, the new touch wiz leaves a lot to be desired. The only thing in my opinion that the s5 does better than the nexus is the camera. The only thing I personally would upgrade to would be the new HTC one at this point. I played with one of those too, very nice.

do you really want to change your $350 phone for a $600+ phone with nearly the same specs, some more gimmicks and a fugly UI? what will you use the extra 200MHz for? you wont feel the difference between the N5 and S5. well, maybe the N5 will feel smoother, since the new samsung crap UI appears to be choppy at some points. Quite honestly, after all the issues I had with samsung, I'd never consider going back to their devices. nuh uh.
If I got an S5 for free, I'd sell it then buy the Nexus 5.

Samsung can cripple any device`s speed with TW, i like Sense 100 times better tbh.
i have both a n5 and a s4. sure, by specs, the s4 holds its own, and appears to be better than the n5. but in reality, even with the s4 optimized and all the crap disabled, the s4 tends to lag and stutter. it feels like a phone from a few years ago, by the amount it tends to stutter. it doesnt feel like a phone with the specs it has. the n5 truly blows it away with real time use.

How a snapdragon 600 can be better than snapdragon 800 ???
First, do what you want....we can't decide for you. ?
Second , it seems its getting harder and harder to play with new phones....some may never see root, or there will be complicated hack ways to root. Yes, many have dev type editions....but development for them is slow and limited. (Like moto x say)
So, if you like flashing and playing, the only sure bet now days is a nexus. If you can live with a quiet or non existant development community..... Then there's lots of great phones on the way or out. ?

Buy a Nexus 5

Hey guys.
The thing I just want to know is: Is this a good time to buy a Nexus 5?
Because with all these rumors of the Nexus line being discontinued and replaced by Android Silver I don't know what to think.
If I knew there was a new Nexus coming out in October or so I would wait, but if I knew that the Nexus line was going being discontinued I would defenetly buy a N5 this instant.
What do you guys think?

I can't say anything about a new nexus but I'm pretty sure the're be a new one latest rumours say it is a Nexus 5 (2014) and some rumours say its a 5.9 inch Nexus 6, I can't tell if its better or not, but if you're looking for the speed of next nexus, go for the nexus 5 it is already REALLY FAST even if they add more ram and a better processor I'm not sure that will make it faster, at least not noticeable in everyday usage, and as for the camera, NEVER found a problem with the Nexus five camera while using HDR+, but I was used to a 5 megapixels camera, and if you manage the battery right you won't find a problem.
