Got the notification early this morning and pulled the trigger. Of course won't know for a few days to a week if it's any good.

After going through two Lifeproof cases because of the horrible audio quality, I finally gave up and went with the Otterbox Defender since they don't make the Armor for the s4. I discovered the Preserver a few days ago and started soaking up all he knowledge I could on it and if any store actually carried it. I like to see hands on what I'm about to spend close to $100 on. Surprisingly I live close to the only Walmart in the DFW metroplex that had one in stock, and only one. I went by today and snatched it up. This case is very nice! Feels way more sturdy and protected than the Lifeproof, and most importantly, sound quality is hardly changed at all. Listening to a conversation is just slightly echoed, but those on the other end say they can hear me just fine. It looks very nice too. I wanted to love the Lifeproof so much, but I'm beyond happy with the Preserver!
using the lifeproof got real annoying on the other end when everyone kept saying they couldn't hear me
I've only had this case a week, and after loving and praising it, I've come across my first issue. The thin, silver strips of mesh that cover the speakers are not durable at all. The piece on the front that covers the ear piece has detached from the case and started fraying. I keep the case in my pocket since it doesn't have a holster to use. I pulled the case out of my pocket to make a call and just noticed it. I've submitted a claim with OtterBox already.
This sucks! I'm confident they will handle this and probably send me a new one, but that won't fix the flaw that the case has.

Im quite satisfied with my Seidio Obex case only issue is the proximity sensor doesn't "see" through the plastic, so it thinks its always covered. But i made myself an app that waits until a phone call is received or made and then enables the g sensor then a quick flick toggles the screen.
Got my second Preserver in the mail yesterday. Otterbox was very prompt in handling the warranty claim. Had it in the mail the same day I filed the claim. I had a sliver of hope that they might have a new design that they were sending me, but it's the same. We'll see how this one holds up!
After spending the week with the Incipio Atlas, the Preserver is still my favorite waterproof case so far. If they can fix the mesh speaker cover issue, it'll really be awesome.
UPDATE: Didn't even have it on a full day and the mesh tore off again. This thing needs to go back to R&D.

I have the platinum plus (seidio) hard case from best buy. I have been using it since launch day and it is a pretty nice case. It did however make the sliding action a little less smooth on the phone, attributed this to the clips removing clearance. Well, today I noticed a nice scratch on my physical keyboard, right down the R,F,C keys. @?n*#! Needless to say, I trashed th case and purchased a Golla Wallet. Beware.

I had the same problem from the case. It's cused by the clips. Mine was scratching the 2wsz and smiley keys. There is a solution, though. Just file the clips down a little and it will slide smoothly and stop the scratching
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I'm using this case and I don't have this issue. In fact looking closely the clips are on the outer edges so they don't touch the keyboard.
My Body Glove case was a complete ***** to get off, the reason why was because the leeching harpy had her death grip dug into the outer rim of my Epic's screen, causing some minor scratches. I don't use it on account of that anymore. That seriously pissed me off. Crap company.
I'm using the cheap ebay one and I don't have that problem.
Purchased my Seidio rebadge last night and so far haven't had any problems. The phone slides as if there was no case on, so maybe your installation wasn't correct or something?
I was a little underwhelmed with both the Seidio and the Body Glove cases that are out....I have the leather Galaxy S case with clip from Sprint....if I need a colorful case one day I guess I will go to my local mall kiosk and get overcharged or try to hunt something down on the web
I took the rebranded seidio and filed down the clips with my leatherman wave, slides nice now.

I'm still debating if I should file down my Seidio Innocase or just return it. I already filed a RMA return request through Seidio so I most likely will just return it... I'm massively OCD with cases on phones, and I think the Seidio will just stress me out.
I ordered a Golla Smart bag to keep my precious in for now.

I'm in the same boat as you. I ordered the Golla Wallet, and I am only going to use the platinum + case until that arrives. I bought the Golla pouch looking thing as a temp but my wife said it was a little too girly looking so I gave it to my mother.

I got a cheap hard case from Amazon for 3$ and I haven't noticed any scraping on the keyboard. I'll be keeping an eye on it though. It is a real ***** to get the thing off though.
Got scracthes on my keys =(, I thinking I am going to go with a full body skin.
Seems like more and more people are getting scratches on their keys because of snap on cases.
For everyone who had problems with a Seidio Innocase, have you emailed Seidio with your problem for a refund?
They have money back refunds for up to 30 days I think.... Hopefully if they get enough emails they might redesign the case.
Until then, im looking for a alternative to the Innocase. The Active case from seidio looks nice but if its the same as the Innocase, i wouldnt purchase it.
Mine experience was worse... I guess I had some particles getting stock in the front bezel on the sides. Today I removed the bezel and to my surprise the phone was all scratched on the sides of the screen... went to Best Buy with my OCD complained about the battery and got a new one... has anyone tried invisishield?

I have an innocase and my keys are fine. I really dont see how the innocase can cause scratches, it doesnt even touch the keyboard, and the tabs are designed to not overlap on the top and bottom portions
Like the previous poster said, maybe some phones have a flaw causing the scratches? Specially if people phones are getting them with no case on
The outer shell of the Galaxy S devices are essentially the same. I got the Otterbox Samsung Galaxy S Communter case at teh Amazonz for 24.95 - free 2-day shipping if you sign up for an Amazon Student account.
It fits the phone perfectly
Dammit! I bought mine on ebay for 26.25 shipped! forgot to check amazon! can't wait to get it, until then I'm super careful with it.
It also comes with 1 screen protector but I have never been impressed with the one's Otterbox supplies. I didn't apply it anyway because the screen on this phone can take a pretty good beating. Enjoy the case! I know I am!
Good to know it fits. I think I might upgrade to the 4G this week.

I'm glad I stumbled on this thread. I just ordered mine today, should be coming in tomorrow afternoon, perfect since I'll be heading into PAX east, and this baby was paid full price x.x; shouldn't ever go to a convention without a case..
it's a good case. the rubber has a tendency to be a lint magnet. but it will def protect your phone.
Got mine from TheCellGuru.com for 23.39 with shipping. I got the otterbox commuter for the 'Vibrant' though. Should be essentially the same since the only differences physically is the forward facing camera.
Not a bad pick up for a solid case to protect; as I am one clumsy SOB!

I saw a friend with an Otterbox and liked the grip, so I grabbed one.
I was disappointed to find out they dont make a "Defender" version for the Vibrant/S4G. That was the version my friend had on his Captivate which I liked more then the "Commuter". But the Commuter will suffice for now. Hopefully they release a defender series for ours.
I also didn't care for the screen protector that came with the Otterbox, so I didn't use it and just used the second realook protector I had from my Vibrant which works great.

Comparing the two, which one tends to attract dust more? (refering to the soft silicone part).
Thanks
Case mate only does on the silicone part, which isnt really much once the "hard" part covers the back.. mainly on on the top part where the headphone jack is, a quick milisecond wipe when it comes out of my pocket and no dust on the entire phone. Hopefully that description helps.
Otherwise none at all. Refering to the case mate of course.

Yeah, I looked everywhere for the Defender version but settled for the Commuter.
I haven't had many problems with dust on my Otterbox but for those that are, Just wipe it with any microfiber cloth (even old jogging pants refashioned as a dust rag works) and it wipes it clean in seconds.
The only thing is the dust/lint gets in the cut outs for the ffc and ear piece. If your going to use the ffc, which isn't that often, you have to clean that out.
Is anyone else noticing that it seems like the soft part is getting a little loose after awhile? I've had this one since they first released them for the vibrant. It seems like, especially at the top, you can squeeze the edge's in and it buckles up.
That being said, this is the best case I've ever owned. I like how it has the soft rubber touching the phone so you don't get any wear spots on it. Then the hard plastic protects and keeps it from getting stuck in your pocket.
I think I found the case I'm getting for my G2X

Now the waiting the game lol
I'm waiting for this, too, and I hope it doesn't have fitment issues like they've had with every other phone I've gotten this case for. I don't mind the electrical tape fix but it shouldn't be necessary for a case that you spend that much money on.
I love their cases, I've used them on a few different phones, the latest being the Vibrant. The only downside I've had is the cost. I'll probably wait for one of their sales after it comes out before I think of buying it though.
VERY nice! Reminds me of the Marware case I had for my iPhone (which still.. to this day... was my favorite case ever). I was JUST on the Marware site with my fingers crossed hoping for a G2X variant.. but no avail. THIS however... looks very nice. Thanks for sharing!
I like the case also. but I'm afraid the top clip might scratch the phone if i dont take out the phone carefully/slowly...
I'm going to wait for the Trident Aegis case. According to the email I got from their customer service ([email protected]), it will be out 1st week of June.
If it's anything like the surface case for the nexus one you shouldn't have any problems with scratches.

egon27 is right. One of my cases for my N1 was a Seidio Surface case and I loved it. It was snug, but was easily put on and removed. It had a soft, felt like material that covered the inside back and stayed together once you clicked it. The only issue I had was that it had a tendency to catch my screen protector w/the wrap around edges whenever I would slide it on.
However, I'm waiting for the Trident case as well...

Unfortunately i wasn't able to order the holster for it from the site i purchased from, but will the day they come out. Out of all of them, the red looks nicest to me with that anodized look it has, but being military I cant wear a phone in uniform that isn't black or grey.

Yes, jay above you had it already and he hates it. It's kinda of a touchy subject with him lol. But I never bought a surface case for my devices because I hated the way they have to put on. Kinda like taking off sweats before a shower after working out lol.
But I have active cases for my Sensation, which is my wife's phone now, my Nexus 7 and before the N7 I had one for my Kindle Fire. They are all well made. Even though there's a chemical smell like it was fresh off the mold lol, it dissipates within a weeks time.

Sadly yes, the Active does not allow it for wireless charging. But I intend to use the Active case on travel. Being it airplane or train, I will be using the kickstand on those trips. And when I am traveling, I am not bringing any of my wireless chargers, so wireless charging would be a moot point.
For day to day use, I use the Cruzerlite XDA case at this point with the Surface holster, so I am good at this point.
A lot of people here might not like to hear me say it but the active can mess up your phone. Not the actives fault... I'd say its the crappy chrome bezels fault. Its pretty easy to get particles under the silicone on this case. It has great impact protection but I did get some scuffs on the bezel above the speaker after using it a week straight. Also somehow the magnet from the kickstand or something with the case pug some strange hazing that won't go away on my rear wet apply screen protector. Something to watch out for. The marks are square in shape etc. I'm hoping it will go back to normal after some time but it doesn't I can just buy a new screen protector for the back. Back to tpu with the surface holster for now.

Embedded for your pleasure.
Anyone have experience with a Ballistic Shell Gel case on a previous phone? I know it isn't available for the N4 yet but I'm torn on getting that or the Seidio Active. I don't care much for the kickstand so that's not a huge deal for me. I'm also guessing the Ballistic case won't allow wireless charging either since it looks like it has similar construction/thickness to the Seidio Active.
I think it's the metal kickstand that prevents the charging, not the extra thickness.

Comparing my ballistic galaxy nexus to the nexus 4 with active, the ballistic is much thicker! The silicone on the ballistic is thicker and so is the hard plastic. You need the convert holster if you want to use a holster with the ballistic. I have no doubt it will be an awesome case but it will not let you wireless charge.

Right now I'm rocking the silicone scratch protector back (can't really call it a "case") and the el-cheapo-cut-your-own screen protector that Costco included with the phone purchase. I've never owned a phone that could be made waterproof, so I was thinking it would be neat to pick up the Obex. That means sticking to my slightly lame solution for another couple of weeks.
Does anyone have experience with the Obex cases? Or thoughts on if it's worth waiting for and getting as a daily driver case?
Cheers!
I bought one for my GS3 when it came out and gave it the water test. Sure enough it held. I used it as a daily driver for one day and sold it. The bulk added is enormous as expected but I was mostly let down by the screen protector it has (the kind with the dots all over it) and the sound distortion the waterproof membrane produced. My say in the matter is, if you plan on being in a situation where you will NEED water protection, go for it and use it when needed. Not a good option as a daily driver in my opinion.

You basically just confirmed my specific 2 concerns about making the obex a daily driver! The screen protector, and the sound. Thanks, I think I will get a tempered glass protector and some other case.
Don't be too quick to look past the Samsung protection+ case. I have been through a LOT of different cases with the gs3 and note 2 in my quest for perfection and (go figure) Samsung is dang close. UAG also has a good thing going. The functionality of the buttons (power and volume) on both of these are at the top of my list for cases that cover the buttons.

I ordered the UAG and Spigen glas.t nano slim, I think it should work out pretty well...I'll probably still eventually pick up an obex for canoe trips and stuff, but I think I'll be happy with this as a daily driver setup. This is also my first tempered glass screen protector, so that will be interesting!

I got into live chat support with them and they said very early Q3, like basically in a couple weeks. If that service rep was well informed, I would expect it to be released before 7/15.
On a side note, my UAG case arrived today and it's awesome. Feels and looks great. Button access is almost easier that it was when the phone was naked. The case adds very little bulk, though it does add weight. If anyone wants pics or measurements, let me know. I have the white case on the white phone.
I got my Glas t.nano slim protector installed today. I almost got it perfect! Alas, a couple small defects. I noticed that you can actually clean the adhesive side with alcohol and lens paper. I used methanol so there wouldn't be any residue, though most people probably don't work in a lab and have access to that. Ethanol removed dust, but left a residue, so I would avoid that probably. Pics are at rblunderbuss.imgur.com if you're curious, couldn't get them to show up here correctly.
