Is there a way to use OTG without Nexus media importer (I don't want to buy the app just for this even if I can, I think this should be a free thing dunno) and without rooting the phone?
Thanks in advance.
Not that I am aware. You'd need root + Stick mount.

Anyone know if this is possible with the USB OTG cable?
I would imagine that if you flash a kernel with USB tethering built in you could. I remever someone had success with a Novatel USB stick. I think I read it in a thread about OTG. It was like a all in one breakdown of how it works.
Check this out it may help

Any updates on this? I was about to make a new thread when I noticed this one. I just got a Videotron mobile internet stick for 6$ a month, no commitment (500mb/month) and wanted to see if it'll work on the 'ol XOOM.
it's a HUAWEI Mobile Broadband E1831
would be epic if it worked on the XOOM !
Has anyone been able to hook up a flash drive yet with USB OTG? Been waiting for my cable to arrive to test out. Just wondering since I didn't order a powered hub with it, since half the forums I have searched require it to work. If anyone has had any luck please let me know.

Yep, we have a guide posted in the General section. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629134

Will there ever be a chance that REAL usb otg is enabled? Which means without connecting external power? (I dont consider using an y cable and then externally powering usb to be "on the go")
While most modern phones made by samsung and some other manufacturers enable it by default but htc doesn't is beyond me.

I really want this too... i could control my dslr. and with power connection needed, it gets so worthless, because there isnt always a socket around...
Apparently Qualcomm does but HTC removes that feature.
in the leaked one x jb update you can use usb otg without external power, hopefully they will do the same for our phone.

Take the device to a Forensic Analyst (the same sort of guy that the Police use for criminal investigations) and pay a lot of money of it's that important.
Maybe next time you will consider actually using the capabilities of Android to sync to the cloud - anyone who doesn't is asking for trouble with a device that is so easy to steal, lose or break.
Hey have you tried to root your phone

Hello all, I may be a little behind on all this rooting stuff, but I would like to learn! My boyfriend
usually does these things for me, instead of teaching me. I would like to root my nexus 5
Without using a PC, but don't know where to begin or which blogs to trust. I'd prefer not to brick
My phone. Please if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in adavance! I'm running 4.4.3 Kit Kat.
Is the no pc thing a requirement (having no physical access to a pc) or a preference? The proper way to do it requires the use of a computer and a utility called fastboot. There is an app that'll root your phone without a computer called towelroot, but I have no experience with it and don't know what versions of android it works with. If you do have access to a computer and are willing to use it, I'd be more than happy to help you out. But if you physically can't use one, somebody else will have to chime in.
I completely agree with MetalHead. If you don't have access to a computer I wouldn't recommend you root. You can do things to your device with root that could lead it to be non-operational. The only way to recovery it is with a pc and fastboot.

Do not root or attempt to root your Nexus or any phone without access to a computer, I would also warn you from posting the same question in another thread, as I have seen you have asked this same question elsewhere.
It just takes one person and 1 bad piece of advice and you'll have a nice Nexus brick.
Does anyone know if this phone supports OTG?
I'm thinking it does not as I have been unsuccessful plugging in mice, USB flash, or PS3 controller (I did try using Sixaxis Enabler). So before I drive myself crazy I thought I would pose the question and see if anyone knows for sure or not?
EDIT: I found my answer sorry to bother. Didn't even consider just finding an app to check this for me, duh moment. For those interest it does not support OTG, though the app I used claims to have found the classes needed but they are not loading or enabled I guess. Maybe if the device is rooted at some point it can be enabled like a few other phones I have read about (I know if the hardware actually supports OTG just software disabled).
