How do I make it so that I have to swipe first to reveal either the pin field or pattern unlock? I prefer the two step instead of on step because of the way DashClock works.
This actually bugs me as well.
I don't think that's a stock feature

You'll be pleased to know that this is a fundamental feature of the lockscreen in version L. Not that long to wait now!
You can do this with Xposed + GravityBox

Hi All,
I've developed an app called Invisible Lock which is a transparent lock screen through which we can see the screen behind the lock screen.
This is my second android application after Simple Gestures.
This is an invisible lock where in it will block access to the screen but will show the screen behind this lock. We can see everything on screen clearly but we cannot access anything until the pre-configured swipe gesture is drawn. We can select any swipe gesture from available gestures from the app settings page. Currently this app supports 4 gestures to unlock as explained below:
- Swipe Right : Swipe from left side to right side horizontally with any finger on lock screen
- Swipe Left : Swipe from right side to left side horizontally with any finger on lock screen
- Swipe Up : Swipe from down side to up side vertically with any finger on lock screen
- Swipe Down : Swipe from up side to down side vertically with any finger on lock screen
This app will lock the screen 5 seconds after the screen turns off. This will allow you to use touch to wake feature.
It will automatically unlock while incoming call.
Note:
1) Please disable default system lock or any other lock app in order for this Invisible Lock to function properly.
2) Though this app blocks access to the screen, we can still access Notification Bar and hardware buttons (if any) on the device. I am working on this to block them and will try to include in the next version.
I've uploaded it on to play store. Checkout the below link and provide your feedback:

Invisible Lock Pro
---------------------------
I have published pro version of this app to Play Store. It should be up in couple of hours. The pro version features:
1) Additional gesture (press & hold) has been added for security. Now you need to press & hold on the lock screen after doing the selected gesture to unlock.
2) Enable Sound on Unlock. This can be configured from the settings page. Currently the notification sound will be played when screen is unlocked.
3) Tutorial included on how to use this unlock feature.
Note: Please try my Invisible Lock application before purchasing the Pro version. If it is compatible, then buy this app.
Additional Gestures will be added in next version.
Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ramesh.security.pro
The Invisible Lock app has been tested on the below mentioned devices:
Samsung Galaxy S3 (International version)
LG Nexus 4
Samsung Galaxy Nexus S
Samsung Galaxy Y
Amazon Kindle Fire (First Generation)

Brilliant
Works well on my Note 2.
I have been looking for exactly this since my first android yrs ago.
It evens shows updates and animations that are happening on the home screen.
Better than the crippled shrunken widget on 4.2-4.3, things like widget locker etc.
Thanks
Interesting, I will have to try this. Dashclock to the homescreen!
cool it's not working even by disabling everything
This is awesome!.
I would love if in a future you could implement pattern lock. I Like using a hidden pattern lock so people donĀ“t even try to solve it, this would make it just perfect
Awesome!
Working quite well on the N5.
Hey sivva, getting forced close on 4.3! I am on PA rom!

Any chance you could make it a 2 finger motion?
I ask because it would be more difficult for a random person to simply unlock my phone with a random touch / swipe.
Guys,
I am sorry that I forgot to inform you all that I've set 5 seconds delay before the lock screen applies on the screen. It will lock 5 seconds after the screen turns off. The reason is that most of the people I know are using touch to wake (from googy's kernel) feature. You won't get annoyed by the lock screen if you are using touch to wake.
I have also updated the tested devices list in the second post.

Please make sure you wait for 5 seconds after the screen turns off. If it still doesn't work, please reboot the device. Let me know your device model if it still doesn't work.

If you used the elemental x kernel you can choose to swipe acroos the nav bar. There is also a mod in the sense toolbox (xposed module) to use hold the back button when on the homescreen to go to sleep.

If you have something like nova launcher you can use the above program to sleep your phone using knock or swipe gestures. There is also an exposed module with swipe gesture shortcuts to turn off your phone. It's sense 6 or gravitybox I can't remember. I use insertcoins tap time to sleep since I like BlinkFeed launcher and xposed seems to marginally slow down the UI

I don't notice Nova launcher has this function Before known this trick I'm using nova now migrate To it .Tqvm
Thanks for the tip! I already had this app, but did not know you can swipe up from the homescreen to lock. I relied on the widget, but its much easier to swipe up on any screen
I was just talking to my friend about this the other day since we both had galaxy s3s and the power buttons broke around the same time. Thanks for the heads up

Thank you for this! I never use Google Now myself so this is the perfect solution for me as I wanted a way to swipe to lock the phone.
Hi guys you all are welcome. We are here sharing and learning. ?
Great thnx for sharing. Been using the HTC gesture listener but the three finger thing was quite cumbersome to use. this one seems far better
Nice app! I've noticed that you can now double tap to unlock even if you didn't pick up the phone first and it's already in your hand. Also if the phone is sitting on your desk you don't have to pick it up to unlock anymore......just double tap. Very nice indeed.
Hi. I'm trying to buy a Nexus 5. I had it before and one thing that annoys me is the lack of quick toggles (for the Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, Screen Rotate, etc.) like what one can do on a Samsung/Sony/HTC/LG/Motorola phone.
Now, i know installing launchers does not have a quick toggles feature in its UI but my question is:
1. IS there any launchers out there that has the option to have quick toggles in the phone's UI? (like when swiping your fingers from top down to the screen?
2. What alternative quick toggles app that i can install for my Nexus 5?
Please advice.
If you don't use the 2 finger swipe and longpress in the times, i can recommend:
Power toggles from Painless.
Can be used as widget in lockscreen, too. Switch e.g. wifi on/off without unlocking phone

Custom ROM or Xposed Framework.
Also questions belong in Q&A, not General.
Yea just use a custom rom or u just long press on the status bar toggles to turn on/off

Quick tiles are part of systemUI which is part of the rom. Nothing to do with launchers at all.
Custom ROMs or Xposed.

It sounds like you aren't aware of the two finger swipe (or right side pull down in some ROMs). I think Google's implementation is better than that of other manufacturers.
I'm sure there are a few of you that share annoyance about this. Here's an entire AOSP issue tracker devoted to it: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=79889
I use an NFC implant to unlock my phone. It worked beautifully on 4.4.4 with Xposed. Lollipop brings NFC unlock with smart unlock, but after scanning an authenticated tag, you are presented with an additional keyguard that you then have to swipe. Even if you're simply using pattern unlock, you have to hit that little arrow at the bottom of the keyguard before you're presented with the pattern grid. Unlocking requires an extra swipe. Stupid.
With Secure Settings/Tasker, disabling keyguard/pattern causes the "Black Screen of Death" which renders the phone useless until reboot. As a result, I've stayed on KitKat.
Can a developer implement settings to disable that keyguard conmpletely? So if you're using standard PIN or pattern you're presented with the pin input or pattern grid immediately, or in my case, once the NFC tag is scanned it brings me straight to the homescreen?
Bump. Someone?
Bump
Wanting to implement this as well... xposed module that used to do it on 4.4 no longer works on lollipop
Hello guys,
is there a another way to lock our S8's instead of using the power button with gestures or apps?
I'll tried several apps like double tap to lock, but these kind of apps blocked the face unlock an fingerprint scanner.
It would be cool, if we could lock it with a hard press on the homebutton or long hold on the finger scanner!
Have a good one
Nova launcher, and Apex both have tap to lock and they don't mess with the fingerprint. Theres also an app I used a lot but idk if it will mess with the fingerprint. Invisible lock wigget

All in One Gestures lets you lock the screen with taps to the status bar or navigation bar. I have mine set so that a double-tap to the left end of the navigation bar locks the phone.
The only downside is that third-party locking solutions make the phone lock fully, so your PIN/password is required to unlock it. You can't use your fingerprint or the iris scanner to unlock it again until your PIN/password has been entered.
Yep when enabled in nova you get 2 options.
