Since getting my N5, it's been great in EVERY respect. Since 4.4.1 and 4.4.2 update (both Sideloaded rather than OTA) I have been suffering the same issue(s) as others in respect to signal and I have read that some people have flashed back the original radio from 4.4 to resolve this, whilst still on 4.4.2 OS.
The issue i am having, in spots where I leave my phone it usually obtains signal within 5 seconds and rises to 3-4 bars which is great. Since the update, if i put my phone in that exact same spot, it takes 45-60 secs to get the signal, and then it gets 3-4 bars. The signal also drops off more when I pick the phone up, its almost like the radio power has been nerfed.
Anyway, moving on ... I am currently 4.4.2 stock, un-rooted. I realise in order to flash the original radio, I do not need to be rooted, but need an unlocked bootloader.
I plan on following step 1 from this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507905 in order to unlock the bootloader, and then flash the Radio (I will find the correct instructions for this)
Has anyone else done this yet or can comment on my plan? I have no intention of been fully rooted as I do like the use the latest Barclays Mobile Banking App which wont run on rooted phones but I need my signal issue sorting!
Appreciate your help

So...
I am running my phone rooted, but mostly stock (just some removals) with ROM 1.53.401.2 and he 0.15.3150S.19_10.31501S.06L baseband.
Its been perfoming fine ever since so I never bothered to upgrade to a custom ROM or the newer basebands.
Its an EU unbranded phone. As of tonight, with nothing special done to it it seems to have lost all cell reception. All I get is An x where the 5 bars are. Funnily, when I turn of my WiFi router and select wireless internet, I can get online and download data through the cellular inetnet connection. But not a single call or SMS will go out.
I have moved to like every location in my apartmant and outside and nowhere I can even get a single bar of reception or even a call through.
Does anyone have any idea WTH this could be, what could have caused it? Any ideas on where to prod and poke for a solution?
Mine did that for the first day after I put a non-stock ROM on it...hasn't done it since. I took the piece that covers the SIM card off and popped it back on. I don't know what causes it though.

Hi there, i have two questions:
I made all the procedure and installed cleanrom/elemental kernel, this combo is superb!
The question is, I still have the 1,09 bootloader, should i update it too?
Also, my phone, looses signal, a bit randomly. In my house, it never looses signal, but when i am out and carrying it, i see some signal drops, with no signal and an "X" on the signal bars. After a few minutes or seconds the signal is recovered. I use an old (10year?!) "cutdown" sim, could that cause all this problem? That it just doesn't make sometimes good contact? Anyway i am going to have a new one sim the next days, just didn;t have the time to go and get a new one.
Also, does anyone know good radios for Europe?Showed the map, but i don't see anything for Europe, thanks!

No! You want the 1.09 bootloader. The more recent version is more locked down and a pain in butt when it comes to flashing roms.
So I installed the Mother Of All Roms...rom...then installed the VRBMB1 Modem software. This caused my internet to fail hardcore more than it had already been failing. How do I fix this?
I live on the edge of nowhere land for cell phones. AT&T and Verizon are the only ones that work. Verizon I used to get 4g if I set the phone in the window, 3g throughout. When I updated to the new modem software, I get 4g at the window...kind of. It tends to drop to 3g. 3g works about 4ft from the window, and in the middle of the house has no signal.
I downloaded the VRBMA2 zip to roll it back, but it fails in clockwork mod like I installed the VRBMB1 update. How would I roll it back to the previous software that worked better? It may be the version before VRBMA2, I rarely update my phone because when I do, it usually works worse. But I got sick of the update thing popping up and blocking me every hour or every few days, so I put a different Rom on. : P MOAR works awesome. Verizon does not. The modem update less than not.
Thanks for any help. If worse comes to worse, I can kill everything and put the stock Rom on it and redo everything.

I have no idea how this happened, but here goes explaining it. I was running latest Cataclysm Rom w/ latest faux kernel. I was browsing the web through LTE when I wanted to SMS someone. After a few minutes the SMS failed. Then a few minutes later I got no signal. Restarted, Got LTE although under service state it says out of service and unknown mobile network type. After 20 seconds Got no signal, this happens every time now when I restart. Flashing back to factory settings didn't fix anything. I am now very bummed out. I don't think it's the carrier (aio) since if there were a service outage anyone with AT&T would have problems too. There's also the possibility that the magnet on the name tag to my work shirt could have very well played a part, although I doubt it since I don't hold the phone that high. I contacted Google on their support page, but I probably should look into LG's warranty, which likely won't cover it. So....
How can I fix my radio?
If I can't fix it within my means, how can I get it fixed?
Are you able to add an APN?
Your cache.img could be corrupt. Try and flash the stock cache.img from the stock image.

Hmm. Here's the weird thing though - when I first got my phone to a carrier I would have service, but no internet access when I didn't add an APN. In the phone's state that it was in, I already flashed the APN like normal and worked. But now, it has no signal to work with, so even adding an APN would be pointless if it isn't connecting to -any- network.
I ran wugfresh's nexus root toolkit to run the complete stock process. I even re-locked the bootloader in case I have to ship it somewhere. Watching the stock flash process, I did see it flash everything without failiure from the official 4.4 stock image, but didn't fix it. I'm starting to think it's a hardware failure, since the radio does the same thing every time I reboot it regardless of what rom, kernel, bootloader, baseband, etc. I throw at it (connects to LTE for a few secs, goes into no signal).
What other options could I do to remedy this?
EDIT - Google has already responded and sounds like they could send me a replacement device, not certain yet but here's hoping.
I'm experiencing this same issue you described in your previous post. I think there's an outage in Northwest Ohio for Aio Wireless, or AT&T altogether. I don't see anything on twitter or google, so I'm not sure if it's just me, or it is affecting many users. I noticed it when I was on a phone call with a family member and the call dropped. When I tried to call back, my signal kept bouncing between LTE to no signal, back to LTE, and no signal. Now it says I don't have anything at all. If I search for mobile networks, it reconnects me to LTE and I can surf the web, run speed tests, but if I try to SMS or call someone, it drops my signal again.
I'm thinking the network is down for voice, but not so much data.
Did you try flashing your carrier's radio?
Team Nexus 5 sucks
Hi everyone.
I owned a Nexus 5 one month ago, but unfortunately, it does not work as expected. On 4.4.0, I had multiple issues concerning network already (unable to switch to 3G networks only, very variable HSPA signal reception (from 4/4 bars to Edge exactly at the same place), ...). This issues were supposed to be fixed with 4.4.2 and most of them are, excepting HSPA signal which is still very weird. However 4.2.2 brings my phone another issue that I didn't noticed on 4.4.0 which is a very annoying and repetitive complete signal blackout (no reception at all (Edge/HSPA), even for emergency calls I guess). Signal drop can happen twice in an hour, twice in 10 minutes or may not happen at all 3-4-5 hours long. It's completely unpredictable. After a while, Edge signal (not HSPA !!) gets back by itself. If I wait 10-20 more minutes, HSPA comes back again, until it drops again.
Moreover, at phone boot, just after typing my PIN Code, it usually takes 2 or 3 minutes to catch a signal. Very slow isn't it ?
It does not seem to be a network issue, since my Samsung Galaxy S III doesn't encounter this using the same SIM card.
I read on Google forums and probably some XDA threads that I was not the only one to face this kind of network issues, even on 4.4.2, but issue description was each time a bit different from mine, thus I tought that it may be useful to post a new thread to describe precisely what was my problem.
Edit : My Nexus 5 is unlocked and rooted, but issue is present on untouched 4.2.2 also.
Edit 2 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525583 is probably my issue.
Do no hesitate to answer if you're thinking that you have the same issue (or kind of) or if you think that you know something that may help.
Thank you .

You can flash the radio from version 4.4 that helps a lot, I'm at work just search this forum the directions are here, it's easy.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
^^ He appears to be talking about the link below. You can flash different modems that may work. Some people say different modems helped but I've had no such luck. I've flashed every modem available and still don't have data almost everywhere I go. I have data at home but that doesn't really matter since I don't need my phone at home.

Were would one find the carrier specific radio? I'm on T-Mobile but have only found the thread with modems. Nothing carrier specific.
Thanks for your answers. Unfortunately, flashing different modems does not seem to help .
i've read, the .15 is good with t-mobile.
i'm testing it today too. my problem is not only a signal drop, i have only edge too and my modem won't switch back to umts or hspa(+).
i'm in germany with t-mobile (congstar).
