For download mode on your tab, you need to hold Power and Volume UP (not Down). Otherwise, you get into the recovery mode...

Yes. And you have to press Power or VolDown (I think?) to confirm -- it tells you right there. When you are finally in the download mode, you will see a message like "Downloading. Do not disconnect target..." That's when Odin should recognize your tablet and be able to start flashing.
You press Volume Down and Power. Until it appears the lobo you only keep pressing Volume down and dont power button.

i need to root my phone so i can download rom manager so i can flash my first rom but its not kicking into recovery mode. im holding the power and volume keys at the same time. is there any other way?
1. Install android toolkit on computer
2. Install captivate drivers
3. Settings --> Enable USB debugging
4. Connect phone to computer
5. Open command prompt
6. Issue the command adb reboot recovery
Plus, u don't need ROM manager, nor root to do any of this stuff. Read the stickys on page 1 to get started on how to install ROMs.
1 turn off phone. wait for the vibrate to tell you its off!
2 hold both volume buttons
3 press the power button
4 DONT let the volume go until the screen comes on!

Let power go when you see the ATT screen, keep holding up+down vol
Mine just did the same thing tonight after using ODIN for the first time. Prior to ODIN, I could use the volume keys + power. After ODIN, the AT&T screen just flashes and then boots up.
I found other experiencing the same issue as me. I tried the following and it worked. However, I still cannot get the volume + power button trick to work anymore.

Not all build numbers can use the 3 button fix to enter recovery mode.
Look underneath your battery compartment to find your build number (1007, 1008, etc.). Then do a search to find out how to enter the recovery mode for your particular phone.
You may need to get yourself a usb jig.
Hi,
I am trying to flash XXKPE, but my phone cannot go into download mode. I press vol dn + OK + power and all the phone does is restart by itself into froyo. Do i need to set any other things in settings/usb? settings/usb is set to kies automatically.
Is download mode = yellow android triangle logo at start? i don't see it, just keeps going back to froyo.

Your phone doesn't vibrate when you turn on the phone right? If so, congratz u just hardbrick the phone. Next stop, your nearest phone shop!
Thats right!
Could you help me? How can I go into Download Mode if the "Home" button doesn't work (hardware trouble).
Is any variants to do it with any software or ADB?

Vol Down button doesnt work so is there any way to use vol up button as the DOWNLOADING mode to flash ROMS.
because if i press power and vol up..uploading mode comes instead if downloading mode comes it will be helpful for me to flash new ROMS.
I am sure Dharam,Hillbest and all will have a solution to this
PS: Samsung is asking me to replace the entire motherboard so i cannot give it to the service center costs $120
use this command
adb reboot download
Or in terminal emulator
su
reboot download
Or
Shut down phone
Connect cable and launch odin (with the phone still turned off)
Press power button
Odin will detect phone, quickly press on start, it'll go to download mode
Or
Boot into upload mode(vol up)
Launch Odin
Connect phone and press start

Use ADB and do adb reboot download. You can't change the buttons assignments as it is part of the bootloader and nobody is crazy enough to mess with it and risk a hard brick.
You could flash new ROMs using update.zips and system.imgs. If you root your phone you can install CWM and install a new ROM from in there.
You can use adb reboot download, or flash G3MOD kernel and boot into recovery and in extended power menu press download!
Hi everyone, I hope someone can help with this.
I have the Galaxy S duos which has problems with connecting to data for both sims. I am trying to flash a later formware in the hope that it is more stable. I have the firmware, kies, odin and drivers.
The problem is that the phone will NOT go into download mode. When I press and hold the vol down/menu/power buttons I go into a Factory mode instead of download mode - the following options are available in this mode:
Full Test
Item Test
Test Report
Clear eMMC
Reboot
When I press and hold the vol down/power buttons I go into Recovery
Is there anything I can do to get into download mode??

well that's strange, as, on my device, from off:
Volume UP + power takes me to download mode... I have done this several times and it asks me to confirm by then pressing down.
AND, from off
Volume DOWN + power takes me to recovery.
and doing a search, via google and xda all agree with me.
.. but thanks
I never said I couldn't get into recovery... I cannot get from odin into recovery without it first rebooting and therefore wiping my flash.
edit: So I tried it anyway, and got back into download mode, which in a way is kinda good news as, my logic, if I can get back into download mode from a reboot then I should be able to get into recovery from a reboot.
Same same but slightly different

I am having the exact same problems and tried exactly the same things. I am just not able to install twrp because of this. ( I read that it overwrites the recovery with the stock one when you are not going straight into recovery mode after installation) I am stuck at the “Samsung Galaxy note 10.1” screen if try to go straight into recovery.
What is strange though is that with my device: VOLDown (towards the power button) + Power button takes me to download mode and the other combination supposedly to the recovery mode.
This is so frustrating. Done this so many times with other devices but this one just does not give up… I just want to get rid of all bloatware and other crap…..

I've given up, for now, tried every combination I could think... I have a sneaky feeling it must be rooted first. It is the only thing I haven't tried doing.

I am currently doing just that! Using the files from autoroot . chainfire . eu (can not post links yet haha) . I will let you know how it went!
UPDATE:
It worked! I rooted my device first. After that I flashed my recovery via the TWRP app. I also must say that my device is the GT-N8010 (p4notewifixx). I got confused of all the different models. Still I think it will work with your model aswell! Good luck!
