Excessive battery drain? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, think im about 2 weeks into my ownership of my N5, and over tha last few days ive noticed that the battery seems to drain far quicker now than previously. For example, my phone was 100% when I unplugged it at 8am this morning, and at 12: you can see the drain with very light use. I notice android is using a lot? Is this normal?
Any tips etc?
Thanks

i also have this problem, since 4.4.1 update Android OS is draining a lot

i read somewhere this could be down to fast dormancy??

I have a new "winner" in the battery drain category - this morning, I looked at mine & "Exchange Service" is now #2 on the list when I tap on the Battery.
Can I say, let's see what 4.4.3 is going to bring in terms of fixes & breaking more ...

Well, whatever it was, a factory reset resolved It! Been running sweet since i reset the old girl.

I've been having issues for a week now with Android Os/Kernel killing my battery. Just figured out in my case, it was having the "Enable Battery Stats" module in Xposed. Been running it for a few hours and everything but this Damn Audiomix wakelock seems good

The same in nmy nexus 5
I have the same problem in my nexus 5 after updated to 4.4.3 the use of batery for Andoris OS is around 20 % higher

Inconsistent battery fixed by reboot

I have been so impressed with the battery life on the N5 however the last 2 weeks my battery is dropping 50% in less than 4 hours. If I reboot my phone it fixes this and drops about 10% - 15% in 4 hours.
I thought it must be an app I am opening that is constantly running in the background but can't see anything obvious.
Anybody got any suggestions or advice? I have stopped almost all apps and uninstalled the majority. I don't want to restore factory defaults if I can help it.
Have you checked Gsam? Mine sometimes does that, and the culprit normally is my kernel keeping the phone awake for whatever reason, and a reboot solves it. Not sure why though

Get betterbatterystats and see what your wake locks are.
I have gsam but not really sure what to look for?

I'm not familiar with that. Does it tell you what your partial and kernel wake locks are?
If you go to App Usage it will give you a breakdown of what apps are using your battery

I have this exact same problem. I normally have to reboot my phone when I disconnect from the wireless charger. I don't think that's always the cause tho. I would love to install batterbatterystats but you need root am I'm really trying to not go down that road anymore.

I think It's the dialer. I had this problem in 4.1.1 where it would constantly be looking at my address book in exchange.
In my case, Gsam points to the Kernel being the issue. I'm trying out a different kernel, and haven't experienced the same issue.

Battery problem after polish 4.4.2 update

hello,
yesterday i installed the official 4.4.2 rom from poland on my belgium/luxemburg note 3. i performed a factory reset to be sure.
today my battery was hell. just a half an hour ago my battery drained from 15% to 1% in 15 min with just sitting in my pocket turned off and warm.
i checked my battery stats and my exchange is using a lot of it.
are there other who have the same problem and maybe have a solution?

Hi
1- Install wakelockdetector and see which program has high battery usage ...
2- stop exchange service and disable it

I've got exchange services running, but it doesnt appear in my battery stats. It seems quite high, maybe your email is syncing a lot. Try changing the sync schedule to either manual or push.

Well i don't speak dutch but from what i see your CPU is not "sleeping"... install that wakelock that the other user recommends and you will see exactly who is messing up your cpu

i cannot install wakelock because it says it needs root on kitkat to work.
I never got stats like that. Today my phone acts normal. Now on 70%

TMobile KK update review

I updated 48 hours ago.
Horrible battery.
I used to charge about twice in 3 days.
Usually my battery lasts a day and half.
Now It does not last more than 10 hours.
I had 50% left when I sleep and 5% when I wake up.
Bluetooth took 36% batter. Usually my screen use to eat battery.
Will see few more charge cycle before I go back to 4.1
This is not a review, just a complaint. Search, read and find that others have had similar issues post upgrade and how they addressed their issue.

Where do you find 4.1? My phone came with 4.2.2
Sent from my LG-D801 using Tapatalk
I meant 4.2.2
That's odd. First charge screen was on for 6.5 hours. second 7 hours. Kit Kat seems fine to me
My first charge on 4.2.2 was about 18 hours
I just got my G2 a few days ago and updated it to kit kat via LG pc suite. So far I have no problems it, fast and smooth.

For anyone that's having battery issues, try uninstalling Facebook and disabling Google now. Watch you WakeLocks for a day and see if its properly deep sleeping now.

Factory reset stoves those issues for me

Android system

So I have flashed three different ROMs and for every ROM I have ran over 1 week. What is weird is that every time I see why my battery is kinda not as good is that I see on all the battery stats android system is taking like 15-20 percent on each charge . Is anyone else experiencing this?

In most of the cases when you see abnormal "Android System" battery drain, it's becouse you are using Google Now and didn't deactivated location hystory and position

Atleast your drain is 15-20% my HTC one has Android system at 84% and this only happened after 4.4.2
I've had the n5 since DEC and I thought it was just cuz I just flashed the ROM and in reality its just every day haa

The HTC Sense phones display battery usage a lot differently from the stock Android phones. They specifically minimize the battery usage of the screen which is almost always your biggest drain.

Battery usage screen issue

Hi guys, today I decided to check something on the battery usage screen and noticed that it shows that pretty much all usage goes to Android OS and no apps show there, I have updated to 4.4.3 using a dirty flash of a zip file, but I really have no idea when this started, sure it was working fine before update, any ideas?

Usually it rectifies itself after a full charge cycle.
