There is a lot of debate about how swap degrades or lessens your sd card life. Some say that sd card with speed over 6mbps will not be affected if you have swap.
This is not true. Swap always degrades the life of your memory card. But dont worry! If you have above a class 6 sd card, it will take long time for you to notice and problems. You can check if u have a class 6 or above card by looking at it. It should be written within a circle.
Anyway, there are a lot of ways to enable swap. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.azasoft.free.swapper is a good app. If it doesnt work, you can try other apps. Just type swap android in google. I prefer roehsoft ram expander, though. This app lets you adjust many things like swappiness etc easily. You have to pay for it though.
If you want to check if swap is enabled, you can type "free" in android terminal, or more easily download the "memoryinfo and swapfile check" app for free. It will show you everything you need to know.
I suggest to change the swappiness to 100. :victory:
Now that you have swap, big games should play smoothly.
Remember to clear your ram once in a while! And you need to set swap after every boot or u can just click on the option in the app.
Easy as 123. HoPe it helped! :silly: :cyclops:

The most common method to check which I have mentioned in the guide is to check on the front of the card. It will be written within a small circle.
Sometimes it is not written.
If u want to check if swap will work or not then simply download "memoryinfo and swapfile check" app from market and do the test.

Today I got an idea: move my pictures and videos to /tmp, so I can salvage a lot of free space

. I only use about 1.x GB for apps
Is this a good idea, is it safe?
Will the system sometime clean up that dir?

Bad idea!
/tmp is cleared on every reboot.
If you want to use the internal storage, then use root explorer or similar and create a dir in /data and call it pics or something then store them there. The issue will be though that most gallery apps do not work with internal storage, you will not be able to look at them on the phone.
I don't get why everyone really wants to use the internal apps storage for personal storage, the issue is that any internal storage gets wiped on either a reboot if it is /tmp or if it is /data then a factory reset will wipe it.
Just go get a class 4 32GB sdcard for pocket change now, and be done with it.
Just my two cents, pence, etc...
Yes, I agree. 32 gigs are very cheap these days. If you look for a deal, you could get one for as low as 10 bucks. I've got one and I'm not close to filling it up.
WORD JIM!!! I DONT KNOW WHAT ID DO WITHOUT MINE!!
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
I'm gonna be hard headed and try this 64GB MicroSDXC out......
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313310
Since I created the topic, my files in /tmp have not been deleted.
Not really about the sdcard, it's about doing some tricks against the system
Furthermore, QuickPic loads images and vids in internal mem faster than my sdcard.
I have a question for everyone.
Are you guys having problems with the internal sd card on your one s?
My sd card gets filled up really quick. I dont have alot on it. Only About 2.6gb of Music & 1gb of Videos
Thats all... The MAX I have is about 4GB with some roms and gapps etc.
If you guys had this issue before how did you guys fix it?
I just barely re-formated my sd card to fat 32 on my mac.
Thanks in advanced

I've been in the same spot. I didn't think I put much stuff on my phone and kept running out of space. Then I found an app from the playstore called "Disk Usage." It's a graphical representation of your phones storage so you can actually see what's taking up space. In my case it's almost always forgetting to delete old back ups. You should try it.
Check it out.

Cool Thanks will do
Phones, especially the low-end kind, have limited internal memory nowadays. Now this didn’t used to be a huge problem, but with some of the latest android games coming in at over 1GB, that limited internal memory soon becomes a restriction, while that 16, 32 or even 64GB microSD card is sitting there barely utilised. Wouldn’t it be great if you could force apps to read their data from your external microSD card rather than from your internal memory? Well… now you can!

A great tool called DirectoryBind from fellow XDA member slig allows you to bind directories located on your external memory to directories on your internal memory. It basically moves app or game data from you internal memory to your external memory, and then forces those apps or games to read the new external location rather than the now empty internal location.
Installation is as easy as installing the app's apk and providing root or superuser privileges to the app. You can then simply provide the internal and external locations, click to automatically move the data and wait till it completes! Give the app a go by grabbing the latest version from the XDA thread, and feel free to ask me or him any questions via PM or replying.

Hi there devs,
Rcently my friend told me about a rom for their fone which gave total ram as free, the developers of the rom developed some tweak to do that
here's the link: http://www.living-optimus.com/2013/07/p350-tweak-para-liberar-ram.html ,
i just think this might help G3 development. Posting this is Dev section coz its kinda important stuff and needs to catch a few eyes.
here the result they got

Total free ram. Is that even possibly?
Nevertheless, Looks like some build prop tweak. Trying it right away.
Is it worth to have so much free ram? It is said that unused ram is wasted or am I mistaken?

More RAM = more multitasking, apps won't get closed as often if system is running out of RAM.
not total free ram...maybe the core applications are provided different portion of the total ram ...dunno what just guessin
I think u are right aarun. maybe the system is pre-allotted some portion of the ram. And the rest may be given to the user apps. But this can b a bad idea cos if the system may want more RAM like on first boot or sth there may be problems. Sometimes even the system gives away some part of its RAM usage when some apps require it. But in this case of partitioning the RAM this may not be possible. Lets see though what this mod has to offer.....
There are three tweaks there which one should i pick? If this really works i won't buy a new phone next year!
@aarrun
can u upload build.prop and system.prop files from ur friends phone and xda link of the rom ur friend is using.

OK, i translated the page and the real tweak is the fourth. I tried it on my phone and RAM got optimized a little (i have 54 applications installed and normally i get 40-50 Mb of free RAM now i'm getting 100-110 MB of free ram). This evening i will try the other improvements too!
I am on CyanogenMod Alpha9 MTD and here's my build.prop.
Always do a Nandroid backup and build.prop backup before trying this stuff.
awesome!!!! Its really working!

I did a data wipe to test if i really could get total RAM free but the maximum of RAM free i could obtain was 152 MB
Is the tweak really working?
They reports 64GB size, you can write to them about that much, but then you can't read it back. Microsd testing software reports them as fake.
Just to be sure I tested them on a computer as well and the same behavior appeared.
So, to questions.
1. is there anything useful i can do with them?
2. Where to buy real 64gb card at a bargain?
I used to manually partition sdcards (works with USB thumbdrives too) when I got fake ones. You just need to determine the real size of the flash memory then create a partition smaller or equal to that size and leave the rest (fake free space) unpartitioned.
Usually the flash is OK to use it as long as you don't try to write beyond the real capacity. What usable size u'll end up with depends on your luck, just don't expect anything more than 1/4th of advertised capacity (can be as low as 1GB though).
Ordering from well known online shops like amazon should be pretty safe.
i bought my real one from Amazon.com last year during their Cyber Monday sale. not from some 3rd party listing on Amazon, but an actual "ships from and sold by Amazon.com" listing and it works really well. if you aren't buying from a known and reputable retailer, you are risking it when it comes to sd cards...

U can use fake flash test: http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/-fake-usb-flash-memory-drives
It will tell you where the fake memory starts.
As for partitioning, about any tool will let you define partitions size. The one included with windows, parted in linux can do that.
