Glad i didn't buy a Nexus 5 for the camera - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got the OTA 4.4.2 upgrade. Observations:
1. Faster auto focus
2 Faster shooting, less shutter lag
3. Sharper images
4. Noisier images
I'm surprised that it took a month to raise the ISO and up the sharpening.

No effing way!

I think some of the reviews had mentioned some sacrifices were made in ISO to allow for faster focus and less shutter lag. It's definitely better and I'm no longer ashamed of the camera.

Some snapshots are nice, some are horrible. Basically, nothing has changed much.

Why are the pictures so poor??

I am coming from a Vibrant and although by the time I bought this phone the Vibrant was laggy, GPS was hit and miss, and allot of apps would force close, it still had a very good camera. I don't understand why this camera at 5mp takes such poor pics. I have a very good camera but sometimes I do forget it, it's too heavy, or I don't charge it so having a nice camera on the phone would be beneficial. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

You really think the camera is bad? Seems better than the hd2 I had. Have you blown them up on a computer and looked at them or are you just going off the phone? Maybe im just easy to please its really fast and works pretty well
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
No I haven't blown them up I just zoom in from the phone itself. I take the same pic with my husbands iPhone4 zoom in and it is still crisp and clear, with my phone it is very pixelated.

I saw another post around here discussing this, and in it someone said to change... from widescreen to 4:3? I believe..? I don't have the phone yet so can't look in the phone for ya. It's here in the forum tho.
I think the pictures are pretty good. Here are a few I took a couple of days ago:
Speaking of "pop"... Those reds look really nice and deep. Nice choice of images.

Strange. I started the other thread because mine were NOT so good. There are limited settings in the default camera, and I have set mine to the highest resolution and do not see any other adjustments in the setting menu.
At the wide mode, my files were only .6 - 1.2 mb (compressed I am sure). Yours are 3 mb - and much better quality - are you using the OEM camera?
I get MUCH better shots using the 360 Camera app - but not when using the stock camera app. If you are using the stock camera app - is there a setting I have missed?
I vaguely remember a post that said the camera is not set to 5MP by default. You have to set it to 5MP within the settings.

I set it to 5MP first thing - so-so pictures followed.
I use Camera 360. The uncompressed images look far better than when using the stock camera app.
It's unfortunate that the stock camera app doesn't allow manual compression settings. But that's why we have developers.
stock camera compresses the s out of the shots.
Go vigenette or camera 360 (all these were taken using either of the 2)

Looking for 2D video sample with video stabilizer (Gingerbread)

Hi!
Please can someone who has updated to Gingerbread upload a video sample which demonstrates the function of the new video stabilizer?
I haven't taken any videos just yet but I'll do it 2moro morning when it's light.

I played with it a little earlier. Seems to be pretty decent. The camera has seen a massive overall improvement. Physical shutter button and Flash in 3d mode are the two massive improvements that stand out above all.

Would you say that the quality of the 2d photos has had a big improvement and is the auto focus quicker now?
Thx for uploadung! Unfortunately the video resolution seems not to look good @1080p. There seems to be a lack of sharpness. Honestly said, iPhone 4S 1080p videos look much better.

which rom you are using? i,m using THIS(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1335514) rom and my camera is not fluid and always fires
Video in the acurateam v1 and v2 gingerbread roma is PERFECT. Like totally flawless. No mor glitches or stops or poor audio sync. The quality is great. The stills have improved vastly in quality as well as the overall speed of the camera having improved immensely, to a more than useable level.
Add in the video editor and you have a very useable camera. My one beef is not being able to edit 1080p video.

Should we still expect the vast improvement in quality of 2d photos to still be there once LG release the final version of gingerbread in the next couple of weeks?

[Q] Replacement Camera App

Hey guys, coming from the epic I an missing the great camera options it had. Does anyone have a good app they use for pictures? I'm not looking for better output, but options like panoramic and whatnot.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions.
The stock ICS camera app can take panoramic shots, albeit in not very good quality. For a replacement app, I'd recommend Camera zoom FX (was on sale for 10 cents awhile ago). It really depends on what features you're looking for though.

Camera360 another good one. They have free verson
Has bunch features like touch focus

Camera360 as well here
I use an app called "Pano" for panoramic shots.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
lgCamera is also a good, free alternative with lots of options.
Is there one with zoom, or is that not possible on the nexus a 4G?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I'm using Camera Zoom FX and Vignette. Both are very good i think.
Both have a Zoom but of course only a digital zoom.
If you don't have a zoomable lense (nexus phones dont have) then only digital zoom is possible, which has a poor quality and you can do better yourself on your computer.

You realize since it's a fixed lens that any zoom will only be digital? Thus it's simply like cropping a larger picture to see a smaller section...
Edit: Didn't notice blackg3cko already mentioned this. My bad.

Improved camera samples?

I am considering buying a Mini and I would like to ask, if there was a camera update thats targeting the actual photo quality? I red that there was some functions update, but did this improved the photos? All sample photos I saw on reviews were not much good, so I am interested in this.
Thanks
When I first received my maxx the photo quality was hit or miss. After the initial camera update the quality is very consistent. Just be sure that your lighting is good and your hand is steady. I think that many people expect these tiny cameras to be able to take excellent pictures under any circumstance. This is never going to happen.

Thanks, the camera update is that from Play store or it is a new android build? If so, can this be now taken and not kitkat?
It was the first or second ROM update that came through. The app seems to have added features like the ability to select a point of focus or exposure. That has proven to be a useful feature too.

Low light compared to iPhone s4 is still not good.

Here are a few I took today in HDR and not HDR. I think the colors are rich and you can see a lot of contrast.
Hmm there must be compression on this forum. They appear much sharper on my computer.
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
Interesting would be to try to photo the same scene before and after camera update...
as shipped my moto maxx took horrible pictures. I wasn't on the 4.2.2 camera update long enough to get a good sample, but the pics are much better after the kitkat upgrade (which may have been improvements from camera update)
X users are getting even better low light performance after this last update they got so I would expect the ultra line will also see an improvement soon.

Try Focal camera in play store. May have a few issues but for more tweaking it's nice. Also love aviary for photo editing or snapseed

Why is the iPhone camera shutter so fast, and why is Android so slow?

On the 5S, you can take easily take pictures literally as fast as you can hit the shutter. I can hit it 10 times/second and have 10 pictures. This is with HDR and flash off of course.
I've never seen any Android phone come close to this speed. Is it all just software tweaks? I can't imagine the camera hardware in the iPhone is that much better.
Magic, obviously.
The camera hardware isnt no, but their software is, thats all it comes down to,
