I've seen a couple flashable zips containing the Google 4.4 dialer, but it seems that when using that method, the incoming calls still use the AOSP dialer, without the incoming caller ID functionality.
Is there a way to have the Google 4.4 dialer on an AOSP based 4.4 rom, where incoming calls use the Google dialer instead of the AOSP one?
Have you tried this one?

If so and its the same, best to ask there

A friend of mine has an SIII and wanted to have the same GV setup I do via my Galaxy Nexus. he wants his missed calls forwarded to this GV number and then be able to playback the vmails in the recent call log.
Is this possible on touchwiz? As of right now it wont show up, even though it is checked in the GV app settings. Is there something I am missing?
Does he need alternate dialer or rom, if it wont work on the stock-deodexed rom?

I was reading some reviews before deciding to get N5, came by this blog where it is mentioned that N5 doesn't have common features which are very helpful.
10 reasons why Google Nexus is a Thumbs Down Phone.
1. Does not come out with a Messaging Application. Only Hangout application, which serves the purpose of sending SMS also. The problem is there is no option to block unwanted Marketing SMS. Even if we download a third party application like SMS Blocker it doesn’t block if Hangout is used. So downloaded a Third party application “Go SMS”
2. Forced to retain the ringtone that comes with the phone. No option to set your own ringtone.
3. Volume of the Preloaded Ringtones is very low. So missing out on many calls.
4. No separate music application to set your ringtone. Only Google Play music where there is no option to set your own ringtone. Again and might be a third party application will come Handy which I am not sure because not tried yet.
5. Under Call log, no option to “Edit before call” (Just in case if we dialed a number by mistake), Send number through message etc. So forced to note down the number in a paper and make a fresh call once again or send the number through SMS by manually typing the same.
6. No option to “Cut” or “Copy” the number from Call log or Contacts.
7. No option to send the business card from Contacts.
8. Photos in the Dropbox application folder are not getting automatically loaded in the Gallery folder. No options in the settings folder also. Forced to backup the photos only through Google+.
9. No options to block unwanted marketing calls through the Call logs. Again dependent on a Third Party Application.
10. No option to send the Name and number as text from the Call log as a message
So my question is, can I get all these features by using a custom ROM?

You're right about 7
10 though, the message icon replies to the caller via sms. It does not send the calleds details via sms to someone's else

8 is semi lie. My photos are backed up to dropbox just as they always have been since the feature was released in the dropbox app.
9 is semi lie also. Add the unwanted caller to contacts, and use the people app to send all to voicemail.
So basically this review is not a review but some assclown spending 30 seconds on stock android and not understanding a damn thing.

Is Samsung still paying people to do this? Or did you just read one review written by some guy who doesn't even have the phone and make all these assumptions?
When I'm in a group conversation with somebody with an iphone 5 it shows they texted but no words pop up. Running moar rom rom. Anybody got an idea for a solution? Thanks
The only solution for TW 4.1.2 that I'm aware of is to download Verizon Messages from the Play Store and text using that. Otherwise, you'll want to use an AOSP JB it KitKat rom since native support for group messaging came in JB.

Doesn't the recent Hangouts update now support the group messaging? I don't use it, but I've seen it as an option in settings regarding receipt of 'group messages'.
New to the Nexus 5 from a GS2.( Tmo)
Just a simple question, besides the stock dialer and People app on the nexus 5 does anyone have suggestions for a good solid contact manager that "sees" Google contact groups and is not full of tricks and frills?
I've found them all ugly or pointless. Why do you want to change?

The first thing that bothers me is the dialer, the contact list doesn't show "groups" of numbers i have setup in gmail.
Aslo, it gos right to a screen that list favorites, three in icon for, the rest listed underneath, if i accidentally swipe form right to left it removes a number from favorites.
I dont see a way to manipulate the way contacts are shown ( like without associated pictures) or to change the color scheme form the white with grey-scale.
So i tried the "people" app.
Ok, so IT shows groups, but again, it is very generic, i cannot change the color scheme or manipulate ( choose not to show pictures next to contact).
you cant directly access the keypad form it either.
Neither of these two features seem very well thought out or intuitive.
Am i missing something?
But that's the dialer app not the contacts app. Changing the contacts app will not change what's shown directly in dialer. Try going into the contacts app "people" instead of the dialer. It has tabs (starred, contacts, groups).
As for the dialer, that's what you'd need to replace

ok, i understand that now.
the thing about "people"is it doesn't seem customizable , it presents large obtrusive icons(contact pictures) for the favorites, and groups, i don't want pictures,( they take up to much room) just a list. plus it s just a white screen with grey scale. maybe it can be skinned but i don't see an reference to it in playstore
Interestingly, one of the things that bothered me about "People" was that it was showing group lists like friends/ family/co workers ( that i dont use and have hidden), TOday when i tried it again at you suggestion, all those hidden groups are gone and the (custom) groups i DO use are the only ones that show, so that is a plus, it must sync its self slowly with the actual Google account settings.
any suggestions for dealers/contacts that mimic the jellybean dialer i had on my GS2?
ExDialer with Android KitKat Theme maybe?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.modoohut.dialer.theme_Android_KitKat_Dark
downloaded ex-dialer, pretty good so far...looks like its got a 7 day trial, if it works well, the 3.99 for the full is worth it for sure.
Thanks !
Hello,
I am trying to find an SMS/MMS stock replacement app that allows 2 way Group messaging in Gingerbread on a Droid Incredible. Currently running CM7.2. Have tried Handcent and made all the settings variations but only receive messages back from the android phones (not iphones). Sent messages go out fine to the Group.
Most of the apps I see that can fill this void require ICS at a minimum. Is there a better program out there now that can Gingerbread can still utilize? Are there tweaks I can make to code within the stock messenger that can effectively coordinate 2 way group messaging.
Thanks in advance!
