i was craving some aosp so I wiped then flashed aokp. Want to switch back now, so I rebooted to recovery but twrp splashscreen shows for 2 seconds, then screen goes black. then the phone reboots into normal os. i tried reinstalling twrp via goomanager to no avail. will flashing the img make any difference? any one else have this issue?
ok i tried flashing the twrp img and still no go. gonna try ruu'ing now unless someone jumps in with a solution.
Are you rooted and bootloader unlocked?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
yes... i've been around here for ages. just this problem is very weird. tried erasing recovery via fastboot and says fastboot remote not allowed FAILED. gonna ruu now.
if ruu dosent work try relocking bootloader by using the "fastboot oem lock" command i believe and then ruu

You need to fastboot boot.img.
u did not flash the kernel that is the boot.img. from fastboot flash the boot.img by using this command---
fastboot flash boot boot.img

If you relocked and ran a ruu, and decided you want to unlock your boot loader again do you have to use your unlock token? Or with s-off can you just unlock in fast boot (fastboot oem unlock)?

S-off bypasses bootloader lock. There is no reason you would need to unlock bootloader for anything.

Damn i wish i wouod have kniwn this last night lol... Wanted everything 100% fresh, so i relocked, ran the ruu, then got the unlock token from htcdev lol... I couod have shaved some time from the whoke process
Whats the best method redpoint? I tried to fastboot twrp while i was locked after ruu and i kept failing.... Would i be able to simply "fastboot oem unlock"?

I'm sure fastboot oem unlock would work... You should be failing to install twrp there is no need of the bootloadrr unlocking...what's the process your taking to install twrp

I know you're quite intelligent and I'm not trying to step on your intelligence..but are you sure your putting in the right commands for twrp?

Fastboot flash recovery openrecoveryblahblahblah
I know the commands... Once I unlocked through htcdev it was success the first time I fastbooted it... I'm just trying to learn about the advantages of s-off lol.

Weird.
I had RUU'd my phone (to remove tampered flag) and left it s-off
At this point it says ***RELOCKED*** AND s-off
Attempted to "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img"
Error: remote not allowed
Didn't work until I unlocked my bootloader again. :s

Did you lock your boot loader prior to ruuing?
And could you unlock by just fastboot OEM unlock?
Or did you have to do the whole token thing?

i think i left it unlocked.. and no, I had my unlock token on a USB from the first time.
If you guys just want it to say locked and are s off I'll post up a unsigned hboot you can just flash......I'll need a quick tester but it should be fine

My main thing is knowing if I have to lock the boot loader to running a ruu now. You used to have to. Wondering because if I end up selling the phone to a user who doesn't root, flash, etc...and I want to get it to stock...do I lock or not.

If your s-off just keep it locked. Unlocking doesn't give you any extra benefit

Can I still issue fast boot commands with s-off but locked boot loader?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Should be able to. Just keep it locked and flash a recovery to test it.

Weird. Either something else is going on here, or it violates the definition if S-off, which us supposed to mean all security is off.

Yep... But like I said earlier, as soon as I unlocked via htcdev process, I did the exact same command and it was a successful fastboot flash... But i haven't a clue, this is the first device I've ever had that was s-off ...
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Its just the bootloader doing what its supposed to do then. Evita will probably get a eng hboot at some point so it doesn't need to be unlocked and s off. In the mean time I would just keep it unlocked with s off I suppose. There's so many things I want to check with s off now but can't get my hands on one anymore
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
so weird.. I just wanted to start fresh like inflated. so I got the 1.85 ruu after I was s-off. it finished without issues, rebooted to BL and its unlocked. so problems if you relock first? just throwing it out there
I am having trouble flashing a new custom recovery. i am currently using twrp 2.4.3.0 and having issues when installing new roms. When i try to flash CWM via app it says it worked but when boot into recovery still twrp. i have tried fastboot flash recovery [recovery.img] but i get an error that says
error: cannot load 'recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-ace': Unknown error
I don't know how to fix this. Please help.
Is your bootloader unlocked or are you S-Off? Did you happen to relock it or anything?
I an s-on with unlocked bootloader usuing htcdev. I was originally able to flash via fastboot. That is how I got twrp. I don't like it and wanna use a different recovery. Should I try and get s-off and then try?

No. If your bootloader is unlocked, then recovery should be flashable. Try to flash 4ext recovery using 4ext updater that is free from their site.

Wanted to say thanks for the help. Got it to work.

Will I be able to install from zip? Cwm seems to work but get stuck at HTC screen
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Did you flash the boot.img? If not, read my sig.
Assuming you are an HTC Desire HD or Inspire 4G user, are S-On, have an unlocked bootloader, and are stuck on the boot splash after flashing a ROM, you need to fastboot flash the ROM zip's boot.img as follows.
1. Get the boot.img: unzip the ROM zip and navigate into the folder. You should see a boot.img file. In Windows Explorer, shift-rightclick and open a command window there. 2. Put your phone in fastboot mode: connect your phone to the computer, reboot into hboot by holding power + volume-down, navigate to "fastboot" with the volume buttons, and select it with the power button. 3. Fastboot flash the boot.img: from the command window,
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
4. Reboot.
