[Q] - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just rooted my Nexus 5 and I still have not gotten the 4.4.1 update yet. Can someone provide me with a link for the stock 4.4.1 image for the Nexus 5. Also one I get the image, all I have to do is go into TWRP and flash the stock image right? It will overwrite the existing image that I am running on my phone right? Also how do I backup all of my data such as apps and widgets and other stuff without it erasing when I flash the new image. I want to have all my apps and widgets in the same exact place as they were before so can someone also show me how to do that. Help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

i'm guessing you have an i9020A. follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033269
wipe data and cache with cwm, flash the stock rom and stock recovery, and then update to 2.3.4
edit: you can also use a rom from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13478981
they're unofficial and unsigned though so I don't know if they would work for getting back to stock
Thanks hopon
I installed the stock rom, but when I tried to update he phone, it gives me an exclamation mark and the update won't complete. I have locked bootloader already.
Any help is appreciated!
EDIT Solved
For those interested, download the corresponding update here and flash the update. Clockwork will be gone and your phone is stock (remember to delete files on your SD!)

you could have flashed it through the stock recovery too. i'm really hoping that it was only 2.3.4 that has to be updated in that way. I want to be able to install OTA updates regularly lol

HTC One S / ATT / Updates

Hi everyone
Hope all is well.
I picked up a One S yesterday that was already rooted and unlocked for ATT. I got a message on my phone telling me that there was an update. I downloaded the file and the phone rebooted into CWM and gave me an error message and the update did not take place.
After looking around in CWM I found the download file but did not attempt to install it. My question is - if I apply the update will I lose root, and will my phone go back to being locked to T-Mobile?
I have read the development section and see that the root procedure and even the sim unlock procedure is fairly straight forward, but it would be nice to not have to do it again.
Thanks so much for all of your help in advance.
All the best,
Brett Day
You have to have stock recovery to flash OTA updates. Your other option is to choose from one of the custom ROMS based on the new 1.84 software. You'll need to manually flash the radio update though. There's a flashable zip for the radio around the dev thread somewhere.

There is also a full Nandroid of the 1.84 update. You can copy to your SD and restore via CWM, but you will lose all of your apps and data.
Thanks guys I really appreciate all of the help. So really the only thing I will have to do if I flash a custom rom is also flash the new radio? I guess as long as the ROM I flash is compatible with the T-Mo version of the phone I will be good to go? Or will I have to unlock for ATT again?
If you use TWRP Recovery. If you use CWR, you'll need to do some tricks to install both the radio and the boot.img for whatever ROM you choose.
Yeah phone already has CWR on it when I got it. Can you have both TWRP and CWR on the phone at the same time or is it one or the other? Without going into too much detail because I am sure all the info is in the developers thread, but what "tricks' will i need to perform? I am guessing something along the lines of using adb etc?

Only CWM or TWRP not both at the sane time.

[Q] How to restore phone to stock original settings?

Hello, sorry this is my first post, but I'm having a few issues currently trying to get my phone back to how it was when I bought it.
Whilst I have searched around the forums and google in general, I've found several guides and sources of help, but unfortunately the guides I've found all have dead links for the stock files.
I'm not 100% sure if the method I've been using is correct either. I've being trying to put any of the recovery, system and boot images I've managed to find that I thought were relevant on to my phone via fastboot USB. The result is that my phone now seems to only have CWM recovery 5.0.2.8, and won't boot to a ROM, so I'm leaving it here and asking for help before I do any more damage.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Edit: As far as I can tell, I'm back on stock ROM and stock recovery, but something is still wrong, as when I try to update to the newest OTA through the phone, it warns me that I'm on an unofficial ROM?
You have to reinstall the Stock recovery first.
I'm on my phone right now, and won't be able to link you to the files, but I found it in the Android Development section. Try a quick Google search. You can do it from CWM.
Hope you resolve your problem.

I'm currently on stock recovery. When I run recovery via HBOOT, I get the standard android update icon, then shortly after I get an icon of a phone with a red /!\ in front of it.
And as stated before, when I run the updater from the "about" section in settings, I get a warning that my phone isn't stock, and it deletes the update after downloading it, meaning I get no chance to use it at all. Is there any kind place where I can get all the official .img files for recovery, system and boot? That's all I seem to need to get back to stock.

Download an official RUU and extract from it Rom.zip. Inside you will find necessary boot.img, recovery.img and system.img. Flash them via fastboot and then update your phone via OTA.

Backing up Stock Recovery?

I did some searching before asking this and could not find my answer...
I am preparing to unlock, root and flash a custom recovery.
Before doing so I wish to backup the Stock Recovery.
I assume this can be done and if so what is the most painless way to do so?
Maybe someone has already posted the after OTA individual Stock images including Recovery?
TIA
I found my answer...
Flashify does exactly what I was looking for.. Plus a lot more!
Flashify
Thanks cgollner!
You can also download the stock images directly from Google

Yeah, no need to back it up. Google provides it as part of the factory image:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#hammerheadkrt16m
You can flash the full image to get completely back to stock or flash each component individually.

Getting OTA's after flashing custom recovery

Hi guys,
I just got my Nexus 5 (I had an HTC One S, which got stolen - the most beautiful phone EVER!).
I was just wondering, if I root and flash a custom recovery, how would I get OTA's? Would I need to re-root, and flash the stock recovery again? Would that work?
Now before everyone jumps on me, I DID read this thread about going back to stock, but it says, quote,
either when you want to RMA your phone, or you want to fix your mistakes.

. Does this mean I CAN'T get OTA's even if I flash back to stock?
Please let me know! Because I want to get Xposed, but I need to make a back up first, and to do that, I need a custom recovery (that's not the only reason, just one).
Thanks!
Go to general and search "ota help-desk". It tells you all about it.
Edit... oh you are in general. You confused me by asking a question. Questions don't go in general.

You can always go back to stock by downloading the stock images directly from Google. You don't need to back up anything.
OTAs won't work if you have custom recovery. All you have to do is flash the stock recovery and you're good to go.
You can extract the stock recovery from the Google image I mentioned above.

Hi,
All is here: [INFO] Nexus 5 OTA Help-Desk.
Holy crap, that was quick! Thanks guys! Got it, so I can flash a custom recovery, do what I need to do, and then flash back to stock when there's an OTA. Perfect!
And sorry about the not asking questions in the General section, didn't know! My bad!
Thanks again!
When there's an update, you can download the patches from the OTA help desk thread, or you can just flash the latest version of the factory image if you don't mind reinstalling your apps (probably better this way).
