[Q] Issues with charging and mobile networks - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just received my Moto G yesterday (in the UK). I am unable to charge the phone using the cable provided with the phone. Other cables either do not work, or charge improperly (keeps going on and off, rapidly). With a wall charger, the charging is extremely slow, taking over 10 minutes to increase the charge by 1%.
Also, the phone is refusing to connect to my 3G network. I have even tried resetting the access point details. It works fine when it's connected to wifi.
Does anybody else have these issues? Do I need to ask Motorola for a replacement?

i don't have that problem. no issues with battery at all I'm getting about get about 6 hour or more SOT. maybe you may need to replace it

My Moto G bugs me out when charging sometimes as well, however my issue is different.
When charging it won't go beyond the 1% from wall charger. But it can charge from PC, however the phone gets extremely laggy when charging for some reason.

got a MOTO G for my wife and we did not have any problems with it for a while until it stopped charging.Tried 5-6 chargers all HTC,SAMSUNG genuine 1Amp some working some not.The ones that were working stopped after a few days.It will charge from PC but it takes to long.
Ordered a charger from ebay and it worked for a day or two and it stopped also.
Any ideas why guys?

Hi no problems with mine I charge it with a 750ma Samsung charger charges absolutely fine I can also charge mine in the car with a 500ma USB adapter and cable. I think your phone is faulty and is burning the chargers out probably better off just getting a replacement.

For the charging issue with "unofficial" cables, you can try the tool in this thread, it may work:

[Q] Nexus 5 and wireless charging.

Hi Guys,
I have a nexus 5 and I noticed that my LG WCP-300 continue to charge even when the battery is full.
The charger works fine with my Nexus 4, it stops charging when the battery reaches 100% capacity but not with the N5.
I'm wondering will it affect the battery if I keep it on even tho the device says "Charged" ?
Thanks in advance
Interesting. My Nexus 5 just arrived and I'll be curious to see how my LG WCP-700 charger handles charging the Nexus 5 when i get off work.

I think they finally fixed the wireless charging. My N4 would stop then drain down then start charging again. I never knew if it would be fully charged when I took it off the charger in the morning. I'm certain the battery will not overcharge.
Off topic, what is the use of wireless charging other than not using a wire to charge ?

That is pretty much it, it just save you plugging the wire.

Apart from the convenience of just putting down your phone to charge it will save your USB port from damage so if you need to fastboot for repair / warranty / general flashing you know it will be in good condition if the time comes. My galaxy nexus USB port broke, plugged in the charger and noticed it wasn't charging after a while and plugged the plug to see smoke come out the port and the phone was very hot! It may have caught fire if left. So now that phone has a dead battery, luckily its removable so could be charged separately with out the phone. The screen would turn on and drain battery too. I'd fully recommend getting one if you can, I intend on getting one in the future.

I aslo have the WCP-300 with my Nexus 5. I am experiencing the same thing.
I wonder why they changed the charging. I know my Energizer Qi charger also does this because the charging light always stays lit blue.
Wireless charging on Energizer
I have the energizer charging pad and noticed the same. My Nexus 4 would stop charging and if it fell back to 98% would charge again. The Nexus 5 just stays charging at 100% and I have read that it can damage the battery overcharging like that. Can someone confirm that for sure?
nothing on this?

Not unique to the charger

Just for the sake of clarification. The same thing occurs with the Nexus 5 using the Panasonic QE-TM101 which (as above) worked flawlessly with the Nexus 4. So it appears to be the phone (not the charger). And in spite of people assuring us that this won't damage the phone (battery), I can't help but think that the heat can't be good for the battery and if it wasn't "actually" charging after it hit that 100%, then what's generating the heat (it has to be actively charging to create that heat). I plan to do some controlled tests to see if the same problem occurs with my OWL (Qi compatible but not Qi certified) chargers, and see if the charger is cycling on and off during the charge period or staying in charge mode. But every time I've awoke in the morning the Panasonic charger has actually been charging (charge light on) with the handset very warm.
I'm afraid that if it's not cycling then over the long haul the battery (or possibly the phone) may suffer ill effects due to the consistent heat.

Qi Charging not working properly

my phone has since the last days problem with qi charging. it charges to about 90% and after several minutes it is like i disconnected the phone from the charger and putted it back on the charging pad. so it always makes these connection sound. but the phone lies still on the pad without being moved. charging the phone with a wire is working without problems.
that is really annoying. :/
looks like i have to factory reset it some time, as this isnt the only probleme (moto assist still not working too)
I was facing the same issue with Panasonic QE-TM101-K and the LG WCP-300 wireless chargers, but when I switched to the Incipio Ghost 100 my Maxx charged to a 100% normally without losing connection between the phone and the charger.
so you should switch to another charger.
which charger are you using?

I also had this problem when using my Incipio case on the phone, try removing the case if your phone has one, and try charging it without a case just to test.

[Q] Charging--5sec-->Not Charging

My nexus 5 went to 0% battery one night and died. I tried charging it with 4 different chargers, some with usb some outlet and a wireless charger to no avail. I then purchased 2 new batteries and the phone was able to turn on with the replacement ones. However they would not charge. On the battery status screen it would go from saying Charging (on AC or USB depending on how i was trying to charge it) for 5~ seconds to saying Not Charging. The charging icon was still on the little toolbar battery icon but it would not charge. So those two new batteries are dead :good:. So I thought maybe software issue, I had enough juice to get in the bootloader and flash back to 4.4.4 which would still not allow it to charge. Then I started flashing to other versions and eventually back to 5.1.1 to no avail. I replaced the charging port with one from my brothers nexus 5 and it still would not work. My battery and charging port worked in his phone however.
Now I don't know what to do! This is the first phone I've really had to research about bootloaders and roms and stuff so I'm fresh.
TL;DR: Phone goes from charging for 5 sec to not charge with different software versions (4.4.4, 5.1.1 +more), with many different chargers (including one that came with phone), with new battery and new charging port.
Thanks.
Mine did that with a new battery also. The new battery was a dud--I contacted the seller, who sent me another battery, and that one does charge.

I've tried 3 different batteries including my brothers nexus 5 battery which charges in his phone so I am confident its not a battery issue now.

if the actual USB port is working on ur brother's and so is the battery, i am afraid then u have a bad Motherboard...
theres a Texas Instruments BQ24192 I2C controller chip, that is what regulates charging, such as voltage, etc...
if it doesnt even respond to wireless charging, that may be bad https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+5+Teardown/19016#s53734
that would be my guess....
Well technically it responds to it but it only lasts for a few seconds. Wireless charging and wired charging get a response from the phone by changing it to say charging on ac or usb or whatever but it just goes back to saying not charging after ~5 seconds. Is this still a bad mother board you think? Is it worth it to try and purchase a motherboard or just get a new phone?
Any solution for this? Came later but did come to this problem.

Galaxy S6 slow charging issue

Hi,
couple of weeks ago, my phone starts charging slowly. Whenever I use any other charger, than original, its charges only with arround 400-700mAh - thats only 1/3 of the charging speed. The non original chargers have 2A output: Samsung car charger, ASUS tablet charger, ADATA powerbank. I tried different cables, restared the phone, charging while phone was off, cleaning the phone conector with contact spray.
The battery consumption is normal, arround 50mAh. The fast charging with original charger works OK. All the chargers, I mentoined, worked perfectly just month ago. Unfortunately, I do not have the options test the chargers on other phones, because all other are just slow chargers (1A)...
Any idea, why this is happening?
partialy solved
I perform some tasks, and it seems, that it helps:
I did: wipe system cache. This increases the charging speed from 1/4 to 3/4 (400mAh -> 1300mAh) from the powerbank. The charging speed from car charger didnt changes
Then I did factory reset of the phone and it seems, that this helps.
The charging speed is very depending on the proper usb cable used. One cable works fino on one charger, but performs bad on another...

all USB Cables have different amperes, some have 2A some have 2.1A, furthermore, it also depends on the power source, the car's charger couldn't be as strong as the wall socket i think.
Anyways, on a side note, i suggest you try Aukey quick charge 2.0 powerbank. fast charges your S6.

I am wondering if this may be related to an update? Both me and the wife started experiencing this same problem, at the same time (different chargers). A few nights ago our chargers were working fine then the next night after 12 hours of charging battery is only around 80%
I did a factory reset on mine on Sunday for other reasons but this has made no difference to the charging issue

I tried this app as you suggest and to be honest my battery is worse rather than better. From fully charged, my battery has dropped by 20% in less than 2 hours pretty much being on standby. See screenshots below.

It's weird, anyway download the latest stock firmware for your device model and flash it using Odin. Wipe everything from Recovery Mode before and after flashing.
What difference would flashing stock firmware make? My phone is up to date and I did a factory reset on Sunday

I have the same situation, my s6is chargind just at 400mA speed, and my pc is showing USB not recognized (windows 10), thought it could be a usb charging board just pluged in new one, nothing changed... the same problem. there is somthing more, likely usb chip on motherboard or maybe battery... or some kind of problems

my culprit was the provided samsung cable. if you're in the UK the "betron" reinforced cables from Amazon sorted my problem... cheap and comes with warranty. Mine is still going strong and no problems here

For my case, it happened after my phone is updated. I brought my phone to a service center unfortunately it's already out of warranty. They are asking around $90 to have my phone fixed. According to them, they need to replace the battery and the sub board.
Im really dumbfounded how this happened.
I have the same problem with my s6 I have replaced the charger port and still won't connect to the pc or fast charge

Slow charging after update

My phone is taking forever to charge since yesterday, and the only thing that changed was I updated to COI5. Was never rooted. My phone has been on the charger for 4 hours and is 63%. I've tried different chargers and power bricks, all which worked fine yesterday. I would get a full charge in under 2 hours. My current time to full from 63% is 2 hours 13 minutes.
Anyone else noticing this after update?
Same happening for me, actually. I noticed after last week's T-Mobile update that my phone doesn't really fast charge.
Are you talking about the 30mb update?

Yes, I have.
When you plug it in, make sure it say fast charging. I noticed that it sometimes shows cable charging, I then replug it until it say fast charging.
roger1955
I'll have to try that Roger, as I've noticed the same thing. Really slow to charge now, so perhaps I needed to reseat the cable. On a positive note, I tried Samsung Pay at PetSmart today, and have to admit, I was very, very impressed.
After the update i noticed i have to plug ,unplug , replug for fast charging to work as well
I heard the same problem. it was an app that i installed which was causing that problem. problem solved after installing all my apps.

I'm having this same problem and it's driving me nuts...
From my troubleshooting I found it to be the Samsung charger. Every Samsung micro USB cable including the one that came with the phone. If I use any other micro USB it charges fast. Any Qualcomm fast charge brick works better than the Samsung brick as well. All the combinations I tried that is what I found. Use a moto quick charge brick and any micro USB cable. It seems that whatever update was sent out only let's us charge through USB 1.0 amp and after 3 or more tries fast charge with the Samsung cable and adapter. Not sure how or why that was done, but every other cable charges 2.0 amp and fast charge on first try
Weird my note 5 fast charging started acting up as well. Also my phone somehow went into factory mode while it was off all I did was plugged in the charger too. Been having a lot of issues with the Note 5, exchanged once already now my new phone is having the same issues still.
Im also having issues with fast charging. this is really pissing me off....
