Xiaomi hongmi / red rice - Android General

Hey fellow xda members I have decided to open a forum for this phone since I have bought this device recently and seeing that there is a clear lack of support for this device I was hoping to encourage some development seeing that this is a relatively affordable device to purchase much like the moto g. I will upload a tutorial on how to root this device and how to swap the internal memory with the external to have greater app storage. I would be happy to answer any of you guys questions thanks.

xiaomi supplier
i bought my gadgets from a 3rd party seller, namely IBuyGou (my customer referral here). got my xiaomi hongmi wcdma phones delivered by dhl surprisingly fast. signed up, placed the order, got my two mobiles in a three days' time. yaaaaaay!
the IBG team is quite a pleasure to deal with. good skype and fb customer support. kind, gentle, friendly people. and above all, they are advertised as being one of the very few authorized xiaomi eshops around. until that day when professional big asian mobile brands (like xiaomi, the so-called 'apple of china') consider wide opening their gates to western markets, well, until then we have to thank those hardworking small chinese sellers who satisfy our need for perfect genuine hi-tech electronics @ best prices, such beautiful powerful toys as xiaomi, hongmi, and... all kind of other MI jewels shining out there for all of us

Its good to know that there are trust worthy online shops out there

Antelife.com simply the best

Xiaomi Red Rice Hongmi is a very good choice for a China brand mobile. Price is right, and the brand is very well known. Already LeWa ROM is being officially supported on Hongmi. Same as ZTE, Lenovo, Amoi, Jiayu. Unfortunately the phone only supports 900/2100 WCDMA and 900/1800/1900 GSM. Amazing for a phone in 2014 to not include 850GSM.

850GSM is frequency off each country?

Screen protector foil and case
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good screen protection (foil) and a case for the Hongmi?
Thanks.

There are quite a few cases online just have a look ?

Is anyone using this type?

Looks nice but will add more volume on a phone that is not small and light as is. But this is just an opinion

Do you guys know of any custom roms that is not miui?

Buying a Xiaomi phone and trying to find a replacement for a amazing miui. That was funny

Haha your welcome but seriously any one?

I don't think so.
But why buy a Xiaomi device to use a Rom that isn't Miui?
It doesn't make sense at all

Although there are plenty of knockoffs out there, the closest is the MediaTek MT6589. They haven't released it yet and keep saying they will. Who knows whether it will come to fruition! The closest knockoff out there is the Star 7180, but it certainly doesn't have the specs of the Note 2. Hope that helps a bit!

Original Quote by OnePlus Admin Carl : 2014 Q2 Production Update Today at 9:01 PM:
When we started OnePlus, one of the first things we announced was that our product would be available internationally in Q2 2014. We're well on track of achieving that.
However, after our product announcement, we realized that far more people wanted the One than what we originally anticipated. Over the past few days, we have been frantically adjusting our production schedule to make sure that as many people possible can buy the One, as soon as possible.
In our updated plan, we prioritized for two aspects; time to market and availability of the high capacity model (in that order). We now know that people want the 64GB Sandstone Black far more than the 16GB Silk White, but we also know that more than everything, people just want to get their hands on the device as soon as possible.
What we've done is dramatically increase the amount of 64GB Sandstone Black models in our production plans, while producing 16GB Silk White as long as they don't delay the time to market for Sandstone Black.
Our production schedule is as follows:
Ready now - 100 for phone smashers
Mid to late May - Larger batch 16GB Silk White for the first batch of invites
Early June - Larger batch 64GB Sandstone Black
Later in June - Increased general availability, people who want it should be able to get an invite without much trouble in June

I think this message is clear enough and i hope it will not be delayed more to get on of this piece!!!
Cheers
By the time end of June comes around, Two months after the phone was "released" .. I'm sure there will be another phone. Sucks but I'm out. Was looking forward to the opo for a couple days haha.. But not going to wait two months

To my understanding no retailer will ever sell the one plus one. You need to buy it directly from them. Though that's at least a couple months away.

Switching over from a Nexus 4

Hi guys.. I am very close to purchasing a OnePlus One 64 GB version for $375. (Craigslist)
I am coming from a Google nexus 4. While on paper the One looks much better, I am not sure in real world because I've never held one.
Those that switched from nexus 4, what are your thoughts? Are you satisfied, any regrets?

I don't know about other peoples experiences , but I have had some force closes but not different from my nexus 4, mainly unoptimized apps
Nearly all bugs have been fixed, but the multi touch is still iffy, it is 100% software ... Not hardware related because with a reboot it back to normal
( zooming in to photos will cause the photo to violently zoom and unzoom , flicking it self to another photo)
This is on latest stock, I hope lollipop fixes this even tho it happened only twice for me

The only issue is they may not honor the warranty if something does go wrong with the hardware in the future since you are not the original purchaser, although I don't know what their policy is, it is worth looking into.
Coming from a Nexus 4, this phone is a huge upgrade. I actually came from a Nexus 5 and I love this phone so much, it is nicer in every way, so I think you will love this device.
I would just get an invite and purchase thru the company though, will come to $364 or so shipped, which means cheaper and brand new.
At this point in the game, there is no reason for you to pay MORE than retail.

I have zero of any of these issues and have had the phone for a few months. Yellow banding is overblown and I don't think any of the new build models have them (mine never did). Ghost touches and signal issues? I've not had those one time.
EVERY phone will have some complaints, even... wait for it... the iPhone!
I bought the phone, and sent 2 invites to friends who bought the phone, and no complaints at all. I don't run stock though either, currently I use Carbon ROM nightlies and could not be happier.
Thank you for the information.
What build number should I look in the settings that tells me it's a newer build and not older.
