Hi,
First of all i am from those who never wanted to buy samsung due to touchwiz , Yes i am Nexus lover & though i don't have Nexus 5 in hand now but i always contribute over here,
Now comes to the point, Nexus 5 32GB is in India in my country is almost $537.20 US dollars which is highly overpriced on play store compared to US price & at retailers its $553.48 ,
Problem is i am getting Samsung Note 3 Indian Model with 1 year warranty for same price as $537.20 whereas the actual price in Indian market i.e. on Online shoppers is $735 US dollars ,
Now i am confused whether to go for Note 3 or Nexus 5 as Note 3 has loads of features over Nexus 5 in terms of camera, higher battery , removable battery & so on..Considering its gonna be my first smartphone currently having nexus 7 which is tablet , i wants to use my first smartphone for at least 4-5 years , I am facing bad experience with nexus 7 hardware & have done 3 times RMA till now , Thanks to Asus who always changed hardware,I am under warranty & if this gonna continue again on nexus 5 then its not that phone for me as i mentioned before that i wants to use it for atleast 4-5 years,How could i trust google that the things which happening with Nexus 7 will not happen with nexus 5 !!
I am confused on it whether to go for Nexus 5 or Note 3 & I think my XDA friends will surely help me out in my confusion.Your replies will be appreciated, your suggestions welcomed. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks.

Samsung does not release the drivers for developers to make good ROMS and when it release a new phone (after one year) it ignore the old one.
Where are you getting Note 3 at same price as Nexus 5
there's a whopping 13000 difference between them

Yes i know thats the reason, Its In Mumbai..from my friend,
While I don't doubt the Note 3 is a great device, I'd still get the nexus. I started out buying nexus devices for 2 reasons, one was the price for comparable hardware vs other phones, 2nd more important to me reason, updates. I like knowing I'll actually stay up to date with the current version of Android without needing to flash a custom ROM.
And on a personal note, the Note 3 is physically larger than I am willing to carry as a phone.

u better watchout before buying from your friend.
Recently i had an incident, borrowed a Note 2 from my friend. He gave me as we were good friends(seriously good friends!) and eventually after 15 days i got a call at night from police station telling me that the phone i am using is a stolen one. They asked me to appear before them at night only.I told the whole incident to my friend and then he told me that he found that phone in a pool party.I was so pissed.I was spared as i had the evidence regarding how i got the possession of the phone. Phew! hell of a night!

That's not true. S3 is still getting updates. S2 only just been updated too.
However, yes no exynos source and only binary blobs released means must stick with touchwiz if you want a "fully working" device. Samsung are the enemy of developers and users like me. Never again!

Samsung officially announced they dropped support for the s2 months ago. I came from an s2, but there's CM kitkat available now for it.

Yes, as I said "only just been updated". UK Carriers were still releasing jellybean after the S4 was released. So to say samsung drop support when the new model comes out is inaccurate. Samsung supported the s2 longer than Google support the nexus range. Ergo, support is not a valid argument as to not go samsung.
That said, there are plenty of other valid arguments

Every Nexus device receives updates for 18 months. The S2 received updates for 2 years "So, wut"
Also, galaxy nexus is a much newer phone than the S2. S2 was released with 2.3 gingerbread. G nex was released 6 months later with 4.0.4 ics

It's all personal preference. Try both of them out at a store and see which one suits you.

Note 3 is better in every way that matters (screen, camera, battery, features). It will receive kitkat at the end of January. If price is not an issue, then get the note 3.
I have nexus 5 my girlfriend has Galaxy s4. Never ever would change for Samsung. One thing that annoys me in nexus is poor quality I mean screen, gorilla glass 3 it is not or is refurb cuz have some scratches now after one month.

Go to the store and try one to see for yourself. It is all user preference. I personally would not get a Samsung phone because as previously stated, they lock their phones down. Not that people will not break into them, it is just the principal of it. The Nexus 5 and Note 3 are very different phones for very different kinds of people. The phone is obviously bigger, comes with a stylus and using base touchwiz is very different from the experience that you will get on stock android. Don't let the specs be a deciding factor either, it's all about how it feels in realtime.

What's the point of receiving them for longer time if you receive them SO PAINFULLY SLOW? Also 2.3 > 4.0 > 4.1 = TWO major updates, while 4.0 > 4.1 > 4.2 > 4.3 = THREE major updates. And fast. I really don't see your point.
omg my galaxy s3 is receiving a (buggy) 4.3 update with 4.4 already on the market and i didn't even receive 4.2
such support
wow
I'm speaking as a S2 owner, by the way. But I'm gonna replace it for a Nexus 5 this month

Having recently flipped my SGN2 for a N5, I'd recommend to buy the SGN3 if truly at the same price point as the N5, and then install a proper, bloatware-free AOSP custom ROM.
For reasons same as you said: bigger display, bigger battery, add-on SD memory card.
Just watch out to buy the Snapdragon version, in order to be less dependent on Sammy drivers, though. I've definitively had it with Exynos and painfully late updates.

You can find a pretty good review here.
I think that the camera quality is almost the same regarding the back camera.
Personally I suggest you to offer the Nexus 5:
• Android updates
• Light
• Cheap
• Smooth (I hate TouchWiz!)
The battery life isn't the same... however I have good results with my N5 thanks to our XDA developers

they aren't really the same age. sgs3 came out in june of 2012. nexus 5 came out in nov of 2013. that's 17 months of difference... or a lifetime in the terms of phone components.
My opinion coming from a note 3 I actually like this camera better it just seems more user friendly in my honest opinion **** I've had this phone for 3 days now and I absolutely love it

I used to have an N5 then swapped it for a G2. G2 took a nose dive in some ocean so bought another N5. I dont remember it being so awful at taking pics but now that certain users and their awesome mods have been removed from XDA, Im wondering if anyone knows of any good camera mods or tricks to improve overall still picture quality of the N5?
There are a few things that I recommend to all of my friends that buy a Nexus 5. Out of those 5 or so things, 2 of them are for the camera / recording.
Jishnu's Camera Fix 1.5
Chdloc's Audio Fix (installer by Aroma)
Flash both in recovery and enjoy a better performing and better sounding camera!

Out of interest, what are the other things you recommend to your friends?
I'm on the verge of RMA-ing my v1 build nexus 5 due to GPS, battery, and now massively grainy camera quality, and so if/when I get a fresh v2 build i'm planning on going the right way about it, rooting immediately and loading up the best optimisers. Thanks!

hardware-modding a qx1 onto your nexus 5 will give you a much better camera... you have interchangable lens too, can do tele-zoom if you want to

Nope. Its complete rubbish. One guy took that one photo about how he had bigger holes (which he did) but wrongly assumed it was a "new version" then every idiot tech blog and news site cloned his article as truth and Brought about one of the biggest misconceptions in technology news history.
I'm sorry but there is only one version. Buy a brand new nexus manufactured yesterday, you may have big holes, you may have little holes. Its not because of different versions. Its because there are big variations in their production lines
I wrote a thread about it here
Will everyone please stop talking about different hardware versions?

The Nexus 5 has always attract me but now is still worth buying it?
What can i do with a Nexus 5 that i can't do with the newest coming phones like the New Moto X or the Z3 Compact?
What is its unique features that i can do only with it? (I speak about particular mod/tweaks that change the experience of the phone)
Now is there some mod/fix for the duration of the battery and for a better camera experience?
Thanks :good::good::good:
Another useless thread.. We've already made our decisions.. haven't we? That's why we are on the Nexus 5 forum and everyone will suggest you to get a Nexus 5. If you ask the same question in the HTC One section, they'll suggest you to get the m8 and so on.. I really don't see any point in these threads at all.
The areas where nexus devices will always be ahead of others are Timely&latest Updates and tons of development!
Surf other device's forums.. then search some more and make up your mind. If I were you, I would wait for the next nexus since this phone's already 10 months old.

Hello friends,
Here for a few suggestion and I mean genuine Please give ur feedback and experience
I have been here since long time, it's kinda a passion for me to upgrade to new phones. I am currently a user of Galaxy S4 just got an invite from my friend.
So willing to buy OPO but read that it has call issues and camera is very weird. Camera is almost same as of S4 both 13 mp but I want the users to speak out.
Help me out as the invite expires within 15 hours.
Regards
I love my S5 and I've had a Galaxy device since my S2.
I received an invite from a friend of mine for a sandstone black 64g $359 shipped.
I've not unlocked bootloader yet or rooted it and I've had a couple small issues but overall a very fine device especially for the money.
Its a lille smaller overall than the Note 4 display is very nice and its a fast phone.
Already a ton of development for the OneplusOne and although there are small things I miss from my T/W S5 I'm satisfied. Of course I still have my S5 and not about to get rid of it LOL I feel the OPO is worth the money.

See I am on the other end of the device spectrum. I just picked up a 64GB OnePlus One. Right now I'm using a Moto X. On TMo now with my BF. I've had every iteration of the Galaxy S since the original Captivate on AT&T up thru the S4 and I'm over Touchwiz and Samsung's lackluster build quality. I just recently had a G2 which I loved until I broke it. Been using the Moto X until I got something new and the One seemed like a great deal for the $$. Can't wait to try it out!

Just a little stutter at times in the statusbar and an occasional freeze but over the last couple days seems to have settled. I don't like the keyboard style I prefer the Samsung's. Other than that the black sandstone back is great and feels great in my hands.
It just feels like a solid device in my hands. Not a slippery feel at all. When I have some more time to read I'll unlock the bootloader and root it. Rooting my S5 took mere seconds literally.

This phone is worth the price.
My only issues are that I find the vibration pretty weak barely feel it whilst phone is in my pocket. The camera is decent but doesn't match the IQ of let's say the Note 4 for example but it's adequate for what it does and sure software can help improve it when lollipop is out. Other than that my phone has been solid. The battery life is excellent probably the first device I've had that can last me the whole day with plenty in the tank left over. The screen is nice I'm used to AMOLED devices but I like the screen on the OPO too at least it won't suffer from any burn ins and such. Music playback is good and plenty loud for me via headphones. The speakers are decent being on the bottom rather than the back is useful. You have a very active development on the phone at the moment if your into flashing custom roms and such, CM11S itself is decent but as you are aware of the recent CM issues with devices purchased in India. Lollipop is due soon and the phone will be even better, I've tried the recent unofficial built and believe me it's even smoother than Kit Kat! All in all for the price you can't do any better it's a solid device for the amount paid and I love the slick design of the phone.
