i've been reading and heard that if you use the wrong recovery you can lose lose fastboot. can anyone lead me to the right recovery for tf300t 10.6.1.27 for anyone whos able to flash the right recovery. thanks!

Which ROM are you trying to flash? There is a difference from KitKat and Jellybean recoveries.

You will need this twrp for that rom.

For a kitkat rom, look in the first post of each kitkat thread. The recovery will be there.

I don't think you can without reflashing stock rom.
BTW whats the problem with cwm or twrp ???
They are much better than stock recovery
And we don't get any OTA update so we don't need stock recovery for any reason..

Just download the latest recovery for your device and flash it the same way you did with TWRP. (Could try a newer version of TWRP if available cwm or philz as well if there available)

No you have to flash the other recovery though fastboot using your computer. Not though your current recovery.

Is it really necessary to have root access to flash from CWM?

No. If you have a custom recovery (CWM) then you have root in recovery automatically that means you can flash whatever you want.
When you have custom recovery you can flash supersu zip and you''ll have root!
