[Q] Moving App Data to external SD card without root? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to all.
I want to move the data of some of my apps to the external SD ard. Note that I do not want to install apps there, I just want to move data.
From what I searched, the solutions seam to be to use Folder Mount or Directory Bind, both of which requere root.
I still have not rooted my tablet, so is there any way to store app data on the external SD card without root?

You can store it there but your app will not see it when it needs it. So you would have to manually transfer the data back when your app needs it.
You have to have root to run any app like Folder Mount or Directory Bind that basically reassigns the location of the stored data.
The only app that I know of that can backup app data and restore it with out root is Helium - App Sync and Backup but you need to use it in combination with a computer and every time you reboot your tablet you have to reconnect to your computer to backup and restore app data on your sd card.

[Q] MicroSD card directory

I somehow have two directories for sdcard and my Apps are only reading the one thats not even the actual card.
I have one folder that says Removable/MicroSD.... That one is exactly the correct directory
Then I have another that says sdcard and its just using the tablets storage.
Any idea what happened?
A lot of new devices that have a large amount of built-in have taken to mounting the internal storage as the SD card. If you don't, that space won't be used by apps, especially those that need to download extra files and you would -need- to buy an SD card.
So, it's functioning as designed.

Thats the way honeycomb works. You get 16 or 32 GB internal at /sdcard and your actual sd card is mounted at /Removable/MicroSD/. Get use to this because this is the way google's gonna handle storage moving forward.
Okay I'm just used to my phone. So I use titanium backup to backup my Apps, it stores them in that folder. So when I have to do a factory reset it won't touch that directory will it?

if wiping with cwm it wont.
Yeah that's what I use. Thanks, I had no idea what was going on
That's how ASUS has it setup. Android requires an SDcard to be present to install applications and store files on. So because you either bought the 16GB or 32GB ASUS the directory is created for that reason to store your pictures, music, etc.

[Q] Can not load map data from external storage~!

Can not load map data from external storage~! I'm using papago X5. Since I can't move the folder to root directory, I just simply installed it from download folder. But then when I want to launch the apps, It says"Can not load map data from external storage~! "
I'm going to a new place which I never been there before. So I might need to use GPS. Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Doesn't it just need the map data to be located on the root directory of the SD Card?
Can you move it to the root of the sd card using a pc?

I wanna format but keep photos... Help?

His what it is I am running out of space on my internal memory. I want to wipe my phone back to the bare basics... No apps + their data. But I don't wanna loose my photos and my PC had broke down so I can't back then up on there and I don't have An external SD card. Any way of doing this. I have CWM of that helps.

this won't be easy, use someones computer. why do you want to format?
You can manually remove items from internal SD using a file explorer such as ES File explorer, then uninstall all apps using an uninstaller, or manually by going to Settings>Manage Apps and clicking on each one of them and uninstalling.
However wiping with CWM shouldn't format the internal sd - it should just remove everything in /system (System apps, ROM), /data (all apps+data), /cache and /sdcard/.android_secure (Apps on SD)
But i'm not sure if its possible to install a new ROM using CWM without an external SD Card (CWM can't read the internal one)
Hi Cav3,
You have a problem here, as poster 314 said, you cant use CWM without an external SD card...
The easiest way to back up your photos or any other files you want is to install an app like dropbox or box.net (BTW if you install box.net app on your LG Phone and log in using the app you will get 50gig of free space) and then upload all your files to there.
You really need an SD Card, even a small one that will fit the CWM files on (dont quote me but I'm sure its tiny so a 64 mb card might even do it).
You might also want to try (after backing up your files) going to settings -> SD card & phone storage, and formatting from there, and also Settings -> Privacy and trying the Factory reset in there so you might not need CWM.
Hope that helps.

Installing apps to the SD.

Hey all,
Does the Z3 support installing every app fully to the SD card? I ask because 16gb seems a bit limiting if you can't fully use the SD card.
I just came here to ask the same question. In Kitkat 4.4.4 (and maybe other versions?) the 'Move to SD' is disabled/not there and it is up to the phone manufacturer to enable/add it. There is no option in settings on the Z3 to move app data to your SD card. It is very easy to enable apps to be able to use the SD card, either manually or using an app such as SDFix (but you will need to be rooted).
Here are some questions I would like answered if anyone knows:
There are folders on the SD card for most apps in /Android/data/ for example, 'com.microsoft.skydrive'. That same folder is also in the same place (/Android/data/) on the phones memory and contains data for the app. Can that just be moved with a file explorer to the SD card? If so are there any other steps to take?
Is there an app to automate moving data or a way to add the button in settings, apps?
Cheers
Wait till 5 ! It's was disabled is kk
You can use FolderMount to transfer game data to external storage (sdcard)
I use it and it is really essential to me
installed 4 big games

Read/ Write problems with SD card ?

Currently I am trying to do a new Micro SD card.
On my old Phone I backedup all my data/apps to Titanium Backup.
Then pulled it to my PC.
Then copied the entire file to New Micro SD.
Most of my old apps worked fine at restoring.
And some I had to do the install app from google play store then import data.
Except for 3 apps this is not working.
Seems as though the Data isnt writing. (Wondering if its only writing to SD and not letting me restore it elsewhere ?)
Another problem I have is when trying to backup a file with Titanium backup it tells me there is no room.
Odd since I have 60 GB free. ( thinking it may be a location issue )
I tried to use Keypass (a lifesaver) and it tells me that the file I am accessing has no write permission. Even though in ES file explorer it shows up as full permission.
The app itself has access to storage.
These are 3 problems I cannot figure out.
Let me knwo what I can to do.
Thank you
