If you have an otg usb cable you can mount it with twrp and install a rom from a usb stick, otherwise install wug's toolkit and go through the driver install process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517778

yes give him a toolkit when he has no idea whats going on. perfect solution.
OP,
you will never be able to mount the sdcard as it is a unified storage system. get adb working in your custom recovery and push the file over OR get fastboot working and fastboot flash the stock rom.

LOL ... I meant to FYI ! your post but ended up clicking the "thanks button"
yes the SDCard IS the internal storage ...etc
But..the OP is talking about USB storage access ( yes, you can mount external card/stick with the help of an OTG adapter/cable and flash a rom ) ... I've done it after wiping EVERYTHING on the list ( complete blank except for radio and bootloader.)
I'm also able to do a nandroid to the external card via this method ( after mounting USB-OTG through TWRP...make sure to select which memory...etc )

That toolkit has a very thorough and detailed process of uninstalling/installing usb drivers which is what he seems to need right now, telling him "get abd/fastboot working" doesn't help.

My adb is working I think I entered the command when trying to push. I didn't have the drivers correct for when in recovery. The driver only worked for the fastboot I didn't get a reply quick enough cause I'm impatient ended up finding wugs toolkit and got the correct drivers flashed back to stock now running carbon. thanks for helping though gave you all some thanks. Can anyone reccomend some cool stuff for my phone I'm not exactly new to the scene but I'm also not super experienced. Would really like to get wireless display working it just reboots my phone on carbon. Would like something like dirty unicorn or something with crazy unnecessary features but didn't see anything like that.

[Q] Well, I derp'd while rooting.

Yepp. After attempting to root my Nexus, I screwed up somewhere along the line and have now made my phone useless. Every little thing I've tried has not been able to fix it
I got the bootloader unlocked, but whenever I try and boot my phone, it gets to the google logo with the little unlocked padlock beneath it, and no further. So I screw'd up along the line following some probably bogus POS guide.
Anyhoo, I'd like to know how to fix it. I can still get into the fastloader, but I have no idea what to do from there. I'd like to figure out how to do a complete factory reset. I can't access the phone a usb mass storage device at all, so I can't figure out how to load a recovery file into clockwork.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Its on a Koodo carrier (I believe its a branch of Telus up here in Canada)
Install android ask correctly with correct drivers. Execute : fastboot devices
Make sure you are in the boot loader.
If your device id shows up flash a recovery for your phone.
This should work provided that you do it correctly. As far as I know there is no way to overwrite nexus s bootloader so bricking it is virtually impossible unless you physically do some damage.

ask correctly? You mean SDK?
I did get the Android SDK and instaled the Google drivers. Now what do I do with "execute :fastboot devices" ?
Put the cwm recovery image into the /tools folder inside your SDK folder, boot device into bootloader, open command prompt, type
fastboot devices (should return your device's id)
fastboot flash recovery <nameofrecovery>.img
go to recovery on the phone,
mount & storage > mount usb (if that doesn't work you are either missing more drivers or go back one step to mount & storage and mount /sdcard then repeat the step)
copy a ROM for YOUR device from the stickied topic in this very subforum onto your phone, a full rom, signed or unsigned doesn't matter.
unmount usb
go back to top menu in recovery, "install zip from sd card". choose the ROM you downloaded and run it, done
OP, we need to know, do you have Clockwork Recovery installed?
Yes. I have clockwork Recovery installed.

Ok did you flash a ROM after you rooted? You may have flashed a ROM that does not work for your device. Which model Nexus do you have and which ROM did you flash?
I didn't try flashing a Rom. I have an I9020A.

I just tried one that was SUPPOSED to work with my phone, (I9020A) but it failed mid instalation and aborted. I tried re downloading and re installing it through clockwork and got the same error.

Well if you have working Clockwork Recovery, then your solution is probably as simple as flashing another ROM. You can download another zip on your PC, then in CWM recovery go to Mounts and Storage and then Mount USB Storage. Then you can copy the zip over, then flash it.
I have done exactly the same thing OP! I am from Canada too, also Koodo. Let me guess you went here:
"a url that isnexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-root-nexus-s/..."
I don't know if that guy is the retard - or if I am the retard for not scrolling down the screen and seeing everyone screaming about their phone being bricked lol.
I get extra points too because I didn't backup any of my sdcard data first %^&* lol
oh boy.
Well I'll let you know how I make out with the ROM, and hopefully Google will sync back my paid apps (well one - TouchDown)
Back up and rooted to boot. Not screwed after all. This site is a great resource, thank you so much!

Make sure you have the correct recovery and the correct ROM for your phone model. I suggest you re-flash CWM recovery from this thead , then flash OTA ROM from this thread (look for the one that says "Works on: I9020A")

Hold the Power button and Vol- button in till it stops flashing then let go of the power button for sec and press again then wait a few secends and the bootloader should show up. Now you should be able to use the toolkit again first thing you want to do is flash TWRP recovery and then use it again to flash the boot.img from the rom you want to use then reboot into recovery and you should be able to mount SD now, copy over the rom then factory reset and wipe system and then install rom.
Oh ,CWM recovery isn't support mount USB

You'd better using TWRP recovery,it's prefect..
if you can't mount usb or sdcard then the only fix that doesn't involve using linux hackery is to read this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...OW-TO] Fix soft brick & error mounting sdcard
you need to go back to stock recovery wipe sdcard everything your gonna lose everything and then after you successfully get control of sdcard you flash new recovery use twrp (I wouldn't trust cwm if I was paid to) and that's the fix. happy hacking

I think he cant mount SD is because CWM cant do it but TWRP can.
I've been there more than I like to admit..it's what made me vow never to buy htc

If you use cwm recovery, not twrp, then it's normal that you can't mount your sdcard onto your PC over USB. This is not a problem, as long as you can mount your sdcard onto your root filesystem. You can still adb push/pull files to/from the device. If not, you have the 'unmountable sdcard' and you should follow the sticky in Q&A on this issue.
However, it is scary that you can not get into bootloader/fastboot mode. This means you can't change recoveries and, depending on your hboot, change boot images and radios.
Try unplugging the device before you boot into bootloader using the vol-down key. If you have it plugged in, cwm will boot into recovery as soon as you power down.

I must agree with many of the posts here.
Go into fastboot usb, and flash the latest TWRP recovery instead of clockwork mod.
After having gone TWRP, I dont look back. You have many more features than in clockwork, including a USB mount of the internal sd card. You can also use adb tools in twrp too.
After mounting your sdcard, you can then transfer a rom over and then install using twrp too.
If your sd card is corrupted (ie will not mount, cannot access, etc), then you may need to flash the stock recovery and then in the bootloader redo a factory reset. There is a thread about this somewhere, as the stock recovery can reformat your sd card partition if its corrupted or wont mount with other custom recoverys.

[HELP]Can't mount USB or /sdcard

Hey there everyone, I have an HTC One S (S4) with CWM on it. I was running AOKP, but Wi-Fi wasn't working so I decided to flash a newer version, which ended up failing (gave me "bad" as the reason). I tried to factory wipe and reset, and then I tried to restore from my original backup, which didn't work.
Now I can only boot into bootloader, fastboot (with fasboot USB), and my recovery. However, I can't access /sdcard, and I can't mount USB through CWM.
Those are the two things I need to accomplish; because if I can access /sdcard and USB mounting, I can get a working ROM on there, which is all I need as a temp fix.
Please help.
Please don't tell me some generic bull**** like people always seem to do.
Side load a rom via twrp or flash an ruu.
Thank You

Thank you so much for responding so quickly Hasoon, I have used your all-in-one to install TWRP, and that seems to have gotten USB and sdcard working.
I just flashed the older (stable-ish) ROM, and I'm rebooting now.
Wish me luck.
Also, I can't express how much I appreciate your work in the android field.

help! please

Hello, Good afternoon.
So here's my problem, as you may or may not have (hopefully you have) read the post title i am having troubles with my CWM mounting my SD card so that i am able to either A: Load a ROM or B: connect it to my PC via usb so i can transfer over a ROM.
I have used the all in one toolkit to unlock my bootloader and root my phone, i have also installed the latest versions of SU, so originally after doing all of this everything was fine, A-OK. i then proceeded to download one of the cyanogenmod nightlies via CWM (the latest i believe) this is where as they say "**** hit the fan" so it seemed like everything installed all fine but then it reboots and nothing for hours it was just stuck on the HTC screen. i then switched the phone off and booted into recovery (volume down and power button) i then not sue it if was the right thing to do i wiped the data from the phone thinking it was corrupted and could simply put a new rom on via usb and boot it. however i have the problem of it not being able to mount my USB either to the pc or on the phone it self, i believe i still have access to the phone via ADB (im not 100% sure what ADB is) but i can flash new recoveries via CMD prompt. i have tried older CWM (modecco < did i spell this right? its the touch CWM) and i also tried TWRP Recoveries both of which cannot mount SD card and recieve the error "unable to open ums Lunfile" or "error mounting SD card".
i have searched many of the forums but form what i can see my solution requires me to boot into the OS but i cant do that nor can i mount my SD card to load a new one i.e putting on an Update.zip file to load a rom/os to the phone.
i dont generally ask for help as i enjoy trying to solve these issue and problems but i have been trying for a few days now and thought i would ask the experts.
any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

[Q] Stuck during cyanogenmod install

Dear XDA community,
I installed Clockwork recovery and the USB drivers. The device is unlocked and when in fastboot mode it is correctly identified by my PC as falcon XT1302 with an USB connection. When in recovery mode, the device appears as "Android" in the devices menu in Windows 7 and there is a yellow "!" next to it. Unfortunately after formatting system and deleting the cache as per instructions the device won't boot up. I'm stuck at the bootloader unlock warning screen. I can access fastboot mode and recovery mode but that's it.
I want to place the cyanogenmod zip inside the internal SD card of the Moto G but adb doesn't work. I get the device not found error when inputting a command. adb devices returns a blank. I don't know which drivers to install or what to do. I've tried various fixes on forums but none work. Maybe USB debugging is the problem although I distinctly remember switching it on. In any case, I can't boot so I can't change the settings.
All I want is a way to place the cyano .zip in the phone /sdcard so that I can install it. I'm all out of ideas. USB mounting doesn't seem to work. Neither does sideloader (or maybe I messed it up?) I am at wit's end.
I didn't have anything important on my phone so I did not make a backup. In hindsight, this was a stupid mistake. I've certainly learned a lot during the install attempt.
If possible please give step by step instructions. I am not a very technical person. Any help would be greatly appreciated. pls halp
kind regards
Dont worry too much if you can acces Fast Boot just download STOCK Firmware for your version I can't post links cuz im beginer searc under help "Restore STOCK Firmware" and flash it. :fingers-crossed:
Reply here i will tell you how if you not fixed it alredy
Thanks but that's not really what I want to do. I want to flash cyanogenmod on it.

Thanks to the users who replied. I've managed to solve the problem.
Would have been faster though to get your device recognized while in recovery. You can install the driver manually and it should work. Just search for seperate driver files and ignore the Windows message that it is probably 'not compatible etc.'.
Then your device is connected properly and you can get ADB sideload to work from your recovery.
