[Q] AT&T LG G2 root after OTA update - AT&T LG G2

Hello everyone I downloaded and installed the OTA update for my AT&T LG G2. It changed the software version to D80010o from D80010d. I tried the ioroot10 and it gave me an error that folder g2_security could not be found. I am guessing this is because D80010o is still not supported. Is there any workaround to root the phone after the OTA update?
Thanks

was the phone rooted before the update?
did you unrooted it to do the update or did the phone lose the root after?

Yes u are right ..well I'm now rooted and put twrp in sd and grabbed flashify from playstore. But since I don't feel comfortable yet with the ins and outs of the g2 think I'm gonna just wait to flash recovery and just chill with root till I do a lot of reading..

I just got this phone a cpl days ago and quickly rooted, then updated with OTA, then attempted to flash TWRP and unfortunately, once you update with the OTA TWRP no longer works.
At least I was unable to flash it using the variety of instructions found on this forum, loki gives a mismatch aboot.img error.
Flashify flashed recovery, but, it would not load at all.
I also flashed an older version of AT&T TWRP and all I'd get is a lil green android guy with his chest open and a red triangle.
No idea what the issue is, but, I just assumed TWRP did/does not work on AT&T after OTA. So, I restored to stock after wasting like 3 hours and I'll just live w/o OTA. Have root and TWRP installed now. Also, TWRP install was no problem at all once I reverted to stock and flashed it prior to accepting OTA.
I only thought root, then OTA, then TWRP was a good idea because people were doing with that Verizon phones back in September and amongst all the stuff I read I didn't realize they were speaking about Verizon phone and not the D800 from AT&T.

I took ota update first then rooted. Put newest twrp on sd and dl flashify. To flash but didnt Do it..so do u think I have to do what u did to get twrp to work?also what about using cwm? I'm so nevious to go any further.I'm brand new to this phone..way different than the s4.I guess time for a lot of reading

How did you root it after taking the OTA?
I guess the only option is to wait for a developer to make a new root for our AT&T LG G2

You can root after the OTA but TWRP will not flash properly. Hopefully someone can figure it out soon.

Due to everyone elses' uber l33tn3ss I have simply not earned the right to make a new thread. I've done much searching with no results. Can someome tell me about rooting and/or having to use LG Flash Tool to go back to the original D800 software from the BRAND new D80010q update that just applied itself to my device. I did not give it the okay to update nor was I on WiFi. I do have Knock-Knock on and it was in my pocket so it's possible my hip authorized the update. There is no information on this update anywhere including XDA specific and general Google Searches.

D80010q root
I have the same issue. I have LG G2 4.2.2 At&T unlocked D80010q. Can I root this phone?? Pls help!

[Q]How should I root my nexus s with official ICS?

Hi, I'm new here. I've searched but I think there's no answer to this question. This is my first xda thread.
So, here is the question: how should I root ns with official ICS rom?
I was using CM7 build for quite a few days. Just two hours ago, I went back to official 2.3.6 and upgraded to 4.0.3. My ns model is i9023.
I used fastboot to flash 5.0.2.0 CWM recovery to ns, and I was able to use the CWMr. Then I installed su.zip (from clockworkmod.com). After reboot I can see SuperUser there now, but still get no root access.
I think I should use a newer version of su.zip? I viewed one Galaxy Nexus rooting tutorial, in that tutorial they used the same su.zip and it worked. Any one can help?
you need to use the fastboot method as on the sticky

I think the regular rooting process is:
1.Unlock the device (already unlocked)
2.Use fastboot to flash CWM recovery
3.Boot into recovery and flash su
I did all of these, so maybe su package is the problem?
Same thing here.

The regular root process doesn't seem to work for ICS. Depending on which version of the su package installed, you would get different error messages on the terminal when you execute $su.

New OTA Update

So I just got some type of OTA update from Verizon, I have an unlocked bootloader as well as rooted. Can I install this update or will it brick? The file is under /cache/fota/update.zip 30.92mb. I thought if you was rooted you couldn't even get OTA's. Any ideas? I renamed the file so it wouldn't update even though it asked me when to install and I entered 10pm tonight to retry.

It's a pretty major security patch so hopefully someone here puts it in a package for flashing. Someone else said they just unlocked again immediately after but I'm not sure how to best approach it for you.

Rooting doesn't do anything about receiving updates, it's a particular file that is phoning home.

Do you have a rom? If not people are saying they installed update and rooted device again.
I just got it this morning as well.... I'm stock rooted and I don't want the update. Do I have to accept it? Do I need to un-root? What will happen to my Google Wallet & Google Now?
I'd like to know also, I am stock rooted, unlocked and don't know if I should accept the update or not??
I got the same update but it flashed itself into recovery and then failed to install the update. Says "install aborted"

You are right, I clicked "OK", it rebooted and went into CWM. I clicked "reboot now", when the phone finished booting I got an error message. Hopefully it won't continue doing this.
No I'm on a stock rooted ROM, it tried to install just now and failed as well.

This is because you all most likely have a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM and it can only install on stock recovery. If you freeze sdm1.0 it wont keep asking you to update

I've heard that to be safe, you need to re-lock the boot loader, un-root, and go back to stock in order to accept the updates.
There is a guide to do that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253

New m8 wants to update

I just got my m8 and want to s-off but I'm traveling and won't be able to figure that out until I'm back on my pc next week. The update keeps prompting me to take it. Is it safe to do so? Sorry if this was already answered trying to figure out the best way to browse with tapatalk.

I used Firewater's method for permanent root, s-off and custom recovery. If I allow my phone to update will I mess things up or lose root?
Same boat here... s-off, permanent root, TWRP
The update to 1.55 downloaded but when I tried to let it install it just rebooted my phone into TWRP and that was it. Rebooted back to system and I'm still on the 1.12.605.11 software. Checking software update status shows "Result: Update Failed,410"
N00bs. Lol. You need a stock recovery to flash an OTA. Also, I am s-off and I had a flashback to a stock recovery to flash the OTA . Everything is still fine and then I flashed back to a custom recovery no problem

Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
You guys need the stock recovery in order to install the OTA. It won't work with a custom recovery, it'll just boot to the custom recovery and not do anything. You can install the OTA with s off and root but you still need the stock recovery. You install the stock recovery the same way as you did the custom. Adb -> flashboot flash recovery *path of recovery*.

You can install the update, and when you have the chance you can s-off using the weaksauce/supersu/firewater method. I picked up a new M8 a couple nights ago and took the update, and afterwards did the temproot/firewater method and it worked just fine. Hope this helps.
I flashed stock recovery and tried the OTA and it failed twice. I can't seem to get it on my phone through any of the methods for some reason.
In order to install update, you need to have STOCK recovery and STOCK Rom....NOT debloated or with mods....STOCK.
Again, you need STOCK recovery using a STOCK Rom.
If you have modified the system in anyway, it WONT work until you put it back to STOCK.

No need to take ota. Ota us our enemy. Lol. The ota has been pulled an you can simply flash the firmware an that's half of the ota an then flash a stock Rom based off 1.55 or install the backup that was posted of a pure stock 1.55 Rom. After those 2 things you will have the full ota. New radios everything.. flashing a stock recovery taking ota flashing back is not needed.

Thanks guys it was annoying having that update keep popping up and no real computer to lookup info or soff. As for getting updates after roming the phone usually just wait for authors to incorporate the updates. But I did not realize you can't have two recoveries like you can on Motorola phones which is good to know.

I rooted the device with WeakSauce and use Firewater for S-Off. I didn't flash any custom recoveries. I did freeze some apps with Titanium Backup. If I do the OTA, 1) will it work? and 2) will it remove my root and/or s-off?

I don't remember ever having to have stock recovery and stock rom for my old DNA to take an update. Normally devs would update their rom with the updates and all we had to do was fastboot flash the new radio.

To expound on that a bit more, OP - this is assuming you have S-OFF/Unlocked BL so then you are able to re-flash the recovery, and, thus, re-root by flashing Superuser.
At least, that's what I'm thinking is necessary. If not then someone can correct me if needed.... =x

Btw by reflash the zip file you mean reinstall it from pkay store, right?
Pardon the ignorance. Just found out that flashing a zip file and installing apps from play store are 2 different things.
Well my bootloader is locked and neither do i have a custom recovery installed. So flashing doesnt seem to be an option right now.. If i am not missing anything.

You need to flash the supersu zip using fastboot:

To get root again either flash the latest CF Auto Root in fastboot or flash the latest superSU.zip in recovery or flash a pre-rooted custom rom in a custom recovery.
