I'm concerned with the privacy of my data and I want to avoid any accidental recovery from the flash in my phone once returned for rma.
Is there any way to attempt to make the recovery harder? Something that can overwrite the whole userdata and system partition with 0 or any other pattern?
Thank you

I've done a factory reser and i think it already does a zero fill for the entire data partition. In fact it takes a lot of time and i found someone on internet supporting this behaviour after a checkup in the sources for any evidence.
A factory reset done from the android menus (if you have stock recovery) will wipe everything you put on the device (except system apps).

I want only to know if my data is securely deleted. A zero fill makes impossible the recovery without special equipment. So if the android factory reset does also a zero fill I can sell my phone or rma it without privacy issues

A factory reset doesn't go through and obscure the data like that. It removes the table of contents so the files aren't visible to the file system, but the data is still there (as you know). I actually just went through this with my previous phone before I sold it. I formatted all partitions with twrp and also formatted internal storage in Windows but a couple of free recovery programs were still able to find some deleted files.
I just ended up copying my entire music library over to fill up the partition so all blocks were overwritten. After that, the programs weren't able to recover anything. Not very high tech, but effective. You could even make a couple of passes if you want to be extra sure.

I was looking for an app like this but there's a warning.
DON’T USE THIS APP ON ANDROID 4.3+.
There are some reports that after running this app on Android 4.3, their devices are become slower than usual.

I would factory reset the device. Pull the sim and go through the normal setup without setting up any networking or accounts. Once the device is running, encrypt the device. Last, factory reset the device and then send it for rma.

I don't know, but I do know that if you do what I suggest, the only data to recover would be encrypted default settings with no personal information.

I know this is going to sound silly but is there any way to roll back to previous firmware after an update?
yes you can, after the update, if you have not deleted the backup, simply go to settings->phone->update. In there you will see a restore button with a date on it. Hopefully that should work.

The restore button is not there as I expected, the same thing happen to me before where Zune back ups disappear from the default folder you just mention. I know this as fact because the last back up did show up and the restore button was there then one day while checking for updates it just vanished, I was like WTF? So I actually copied a back up from like 5-11 but I don't know how to make Zune see the pks file I tried to use the Windows Support tool app but it tells me "a prior backup does not exist in the proper location to restore to your device". Please help, I don't want to go to Android or iPhone. Thanks.
I'm assuming you're trying to make zune see the pks file, but aren't backups made in .dat and .hash file formats? this is pretty annoying

Yea I know it's anoying; when I went to the default folder where Zune saves the back upfiels all I saw was this pks file, I'm thinking that if there were were a dat or hash file, I might have missed them; in that case I'm out of luck.

Does factory reset also wipe out any installed updates? There are reports over on WPCentral that a factory reset improves performance...There are also conflicting posts regarding just what factory reset does?
I'll let you know when mines done, my touch covers being a bit random so doing a full reset..
It'll probably want to do updates once its done, unless when system updates are done those updates are pushed out to the recovery partition..
---------- Post added at 10:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:04 AM ----------
Nope it doesnt stick updates on the recovery partition, just rebooting now and doing 18 updates inc a FW update...
Wouldnt be a bad idea if it did write proper MS updates/FW out to the recovery partition, would save a lot of time if people ever have to reset the device...
---------- Post added at 10:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:18 AM ----------
And another 14 updates after those...
It would be a *very* bad idea for MS to write updates to the recovery partition.
First of all, Recovery should only ever be mounted read-only (and should usually not be mounted at all); if something goes screwy or somebody does something dumb or there's some malware after all, you do not want it messing with that partition.
Second, what if the problem is *due* to an update? Unlikely, but it's a possibility and in that case you've screwed yourself over if you slipstream the update into the recovery.
Third, slipstreaming an update into a Windows install image (.WIM) file is not trivial. It's not terribly technologically complex, but it would make updates take longer and possibly require larger downloads. It also would probably increase disk usage over time (and the recovery partition doesn't have a huge amount of free space as is).
Fourth, the recovery partition is our ticket to roll back Windows RT if Microsoft makes a change to it we don't like. You shouldn't be so quick to give up what little freedom we have over the OS that runs on the device. For the sake of all of up, please don't request that MS do so.
Yeah, ok, I'd not thought about it that much, seemed like a good idea at the time lo,..
I installed twrp on my phone expecting to install a custom rom soon after. Come to find out that all the supposed guides for installing custom roms on this phone are phony. There is no rom for this phone, trust me, I've looked everywhere.
I need to replace the stock recovery so I can get ota updates. Anyone with this phone who can post it, I would highly appreciate it.
Even i am looking for Stock image file, can some one extract it from their devices and post it here. All places where ROM for this phone is found is behind a paywall, and i am also not sure if its genuine

So I had changed my OP7Pro data to F2FS upon trying out a new Kernel(arter) but Windows now won't allow me to copy anything to or from my phone. It does read it but the data transfer from one end to another is just non existent. Has anyone else done this and faced the same or similar issue?
I think it's possibly related to sdcardfs using vfat.

You may want to troubleshoot by flashing the blu_spark and seeing if the same issue occurs. https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/development/kernel-t3944179

thanks I will give it a try today I'd prefer to use F2FS because of the noticible performance increase lol

I definitely noticed it the first time I had converted it to F2FS... obviously the 7 pros performance is already near perfect but a jump to changing the data format was very noticeable to me anyway

what did you notice? are you on stock kernel?
i did benchmarks before and after and there no difference (with EXT4 nobarrier option) the benchmarks were the same on stock kernel.
i didnt notice any fast app openings or anything, and im fairly sensitive to things like that
have you also removed encryption?
i remember doing that on my OP6, i think i kept it on ext4 but removed encryption, noticed a nice bump.

I had removed encryption yes, and I definitely noticed faster app openings and when when making selections on menu items even with animations on it was instant. that's why I wanted to keep f2fs, but I tried again and my laptop still won't allow transferring items between it and my phone so I was able to get msmtool to work after a bit of tinkering with drivers(still wouldn't copy but msmtool worked)

I don't believe f2fs is causing the perceived increase in performance.
I would say it's the encryption status.
however I'd suggest trying another kernel
at least that way you can pull your data and make a back up
have you tried in TWRP?

Brother could you suggest me how to remove encryption. I want to try it based on your suggestion.
Please also if possible pls suggest any cons you have in mind in case encryption is removed. Thanks in advance
I've been having issues removing encryption, sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn't unfortunately... maybe if you look around on xda you can find someone who knows completely I use tool all in one which you can find in the 0P7 forums
