Minimum cpu frequency on 4.4.1? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone else have the problem that the minimum frequency keeps resetting to 1267.2?
Even though I set it to 300 it just keeps going back

It's from the stock kernel itself. If you want for the changes to stick, use a custom kernel.

Do you have any kernel tweaking app installed? If so try clearing data on it, uninstall and reboot.

yea, if you're rooted, setcpu works without any problems. I have my at 1000 mhz min & max but you can set it however you like

It works, but you have to re run it every boot up, because it gets confused (you'll see an error when you run it after a reboot)
Gotta wait for a real update to it to support the stock kernel correctly.

What governor are you using? Per directions of app, I try conservative but the phone never wakes up when using a sleep/conservative profile. Same thing happens with the superpower app with or without OnDemand force.

I have the same problem, I've tried a few different setups/governor settings and I still get the same issue. I have to pull the battery to get the phone to turn back on. Also I think the phone actually shuts off, according to an app called System Panel after I rooted and set up setcpu the phone shutoff shortly after I went to bed for the night.
same problem. I set min 100 max 400 for screen off profile, never wakes up.
On the epic, 100mhz is too low for the phone to wake up so 200 is the min
Snce the ns uses a humingbird, that might be the problem too
Try conservative on 200min 1000max and see if it'll wake up

OS Monitor puts the cpu at 100,000khz - 1,000,000khz and shows it changing so yes stock will do it too. However, what they want to do is make sure that, at certain times, the cpu can't reach its full speed and that stock will not do
there is a new version of set cpu 2.10
did anyone try it?
on 2.04 it was still acting crazy
I was having the same issues with the phone never waking up -even with the most updated version of setCPU- and having to pull the battery to get it back on so I uninstalled. However, I flashed the Team Whiskey ROM with the 1.3Ghz kernel and it has been rock solid since. I've overclocked the processor to 1.3Ghz while awake and using on demand governor with 200mhz min/400mhz max when sleeping. No problems so far.
SetCPU 2.10 works properly on Nexus S
just confirmed, it doesn't show weird numbers anymore

Hey I just got set CPU and I'm not going to lie I don't understand hhow to use. I messed around without a bit but it would freeze after a while and the screen wouldn't turn on. I don't care about overclocking it all I really want to do is save battery power. Can someone share there setcpu profile Either the info or just the file.

Minimum CPU Frequency

So, on every TW ROM with whatever kernel combination no matter what I set my minimum frequency to, it always bumps it back up to 1020 whenever I go back into whatever app I used to set it with. Even if I just flash a kernel or a ROM and I don't mess with it, I look on CPU Spy and it says it's still set to 1020. Also on CPU Spy it says that it operates in frequencies lower than 1020, so it makes no sense. Anyone know anything about this?

Sounds like you have a benchmark apply or something that is over ridding your setting. I know kt has a lock frequency option, maybe look at others?

Go to the init.d folder and see whats in there and what the settings are. Also do you block mpdecision at boot? What kernel are you using? Try setting your cpu app to delay at boot

It's none of that because it still happens after wiping my phone and everything

Used to happen to me too, i solved it by setting system to mount r/w at boot and using only one app to lock my cpu setting and set that app to delay loading a couple seconds on boot. What app do you usually use to mod you min/max cpu settings?

I remember reading a post In synergy rom about CPU revs. And that certain revs you can't mess with the CPU.its some where in the thread.

Nexus 5 lagging

Going through some threads it seems most dont experience any lag so im wondering what the problem could be in my case i sometimes notice slight lags when opening/closing app drawer, switching to quick settings, opening/closing apps (turned off animations so not really a problem now) and a few other instances is this normal? it got quite bad so i unrooted it and locked bootloader then unlocked and re-rooted and at the moment i am on stock rom, stock launcher and faux123 stable mainline 11 kernel
Glad I'm not the only one. Do the apps include any of the following: Timely, YouTube?

hopefully it is something that an android update will fix soon as its not just apps for me its everywhere but not all the time, i was wondering if its the custom kernel im using? Hopefully it isn't as i cant change the gamma values in stock kernel so that is the main reason for me flashing a custom one

Doubt it's your kernel. I'm running stock and suffering as well :/ It could also be a defect, some run fine others don't. Same with the same speaker issue, some newer owners especially the red ones claim it sounds better as the old ones.

Try switching to ART runtime, it seems to be much smoother. Im using Franco's kernel with a lot of downgrading in setup and yet I don't experience lags.
I did think about switching to ART but to be honest i dont want to lose anything in terms of stability but hopefully soon it will become part of an update so if lag is normal on dalvik now i dont mind waiting i just wanted to see if its normal or im doing something wrong

I'm sure that the problem could be around some settings with faux kernel. I use it too but recommended settings foe nexus 5 seem to cause some lag for everyone as it's more for saving battery life...
You might nee to play with some settings there Like governor and Hotplug.

Installing updates from Play doesn`t make the phone laggy unless there is a problem with an app or some apps. Rebooting after installing updates clears most problems most of the time.

Install BetterBatteryStatts for unusual app behaviour which is most likely the reason of your phone lagging.

Screen wake issues

At least 5 times a day when I try to turn on my phones screen I'm unable to do do and I'm forced to reboot it. I don't think the issue is with the ROM because I've encountered the same problem on multiple Roms.
Does anyone have an idea what may be causing this?

sounds like sod(sleep of death). it can be a rom issue, a kernel issue, an app issue, or you need to raise voltages.

[Q] Why does my Nexus 5 lag?

Hi guys, so I recently bought a nexus 5 I just got it like 5 days ago. My problem is that I have some lag problems. My phone lags when I play games like Dead trigger 2. I also have this game called Kritika, I don't know if you've heard of it, it's from Gamevil, and it lags pretty bad. So why is this? It's a Nexus 5, I shouldn't have problems with the Snapdragon 800 processor. I also seem to have a little stutter in fruit ninja. Is it just me or do I have a defective device. Or is there nothing wrong with it? Can someone please tell me whether I should send it back or not? Thank you.
Is it on stock? If no reflash stock then factory reset the device. Then load nothing else but the game. If it lags it hardware.

i have dead trigger 2, theres no lag. then again, i use a custom kernel for performance, and i disable thermal throttle.
Must be why then, did it lag before your custom kernel?

I would bet on thermal throttling like everyone else is saying. I noticed that although my Nexus 4 got absurdly hot with a raised thermal throttle, games ran better. That phone was a launch device and is used by my dad every day now without any lasting effects. I've done the same with my Nexus 5 with similar effect, although it doesn't seem to get as hot as my old phone. I would say that it's safe to do, and should get rid of the lag

Does your phone heat up while its lagging? If so, it would be because of thermal throttling like the other have mentioned (reducing CPU frequency so the phone can cool down)
You can flash a custom kernel and either remove thermal throttling or increase the amount of temperature of thermal throttling (so it will reduce CPU only at higher temperatures).

Yeah it does heat up while it's lagging, but the problem is that it doesn't take time to lag, it just starts lagging when I start the game up, not over time, so I was wondering if it was a hardware problem.
