have the same specifications, Android version 2.1 Eclair & build description contains EM83 in both devices and they look identical! When I connect mine to Windows 7 PC and set the mode on tablet that I could reach its internal storage, in the device manager properties for USB device you can find name MID EM83 and EM83 is also mentioned in the Build description of both these tablets. I think MID EM83 is the clue to find the real manufacturer of this 8" tablet with Telechips 8902 CPU. I have searched google and read slatedroid.com & androidtablets.net but I couldn't find who is the real manufacturer or confirmed working Android 2.2 or 2.3 firmware or custom firmware ROM's. Maybe you, a person who reads this post, know? I thought it is obvious that ViewQuest Slate 8 & a-rival NAV-PA80 have been made by the same manufacturer and I tried to update ViewQuest with update provided by a-rival for NAV-PA80/NAV-PA83

to update my 8" View Quest Slate2 AND IT WORKED!!!. I believe this proves that they both are made by the same manufacturer or on the same platform designed for Telechips 8902 CPU. I am sure that there are other users who have 8" tablet with Telechips 890x CPU like ViewQuest Slate2 or a-rival PAD NAV-PA80 who do search for modified firmware ROM's to update their device from Android 2.1 to 2.2 or even 2.3 version. If you know were to find these custom ROM's - please let us know!

I do all the necessary steps in this tutorial @ stream0[dot]org
I run "download-ubuntu.sh script"
And I get the famous -
nvflash started
rcm version 0X4
Comman Send Failed (usb write failed)
I abhor Android and am finding my tablet to be useless as I can't get what I want on it.
- I can't tether to my mobile to use my mobile's 3g connection as the connection for my tablet (I have the non-3g version).
- I can't run programs like inkscape for creating vector graphics.
- The browser runs extremely slow when typing and can get frustrating as it skips.
- Opera doesn't run with complete flash functionality, although a faster alternative to the stock browser.
- The way the file systems is organised means I have to upload 1 picture at a time onto a blog or facebook instead of being able to upload 20 at a time.
I would much prefer ubuntu, even if it meant less functionality.
Any assistance?
Hi all,
I make a application android for my customers but my customers want to allow their customers access to tablet with my application "blocked". The final user can't quit my application, he can simply use my application.
Tablet must have ethernet (via usb to lan adapter), the bottom button bar must be hidden.
Can you recommend me a model ?
Thanks a lot,
I have tested the Toshiba folio 100, but with no driver video for the graphic card with andro 3.0.
Andro 3.0 is required for the usb to lan adaptater
I have try too the acer iconia a200, but isn't rootable for the moment,
now I try the samsung galaxy tab

Lenovo thinkpad offers alot of security for the tablet and is integrated into the framework and not a app alone, which makes breaking the security alot harder for regular users even with root enabled.
i think its a question of users/companies wanting security they get Thinkpad tablet for that, which cisco client included for vpn as well.
Hi dexter,
Do you test this tablet?
Do you think it's possible to wake up this tablet automaticaly the morming? by a magic packet or a rtc alarm?
Thanks,
Hi Alexandre17220,
I think we are working on similar projects because it seems we have tested the same tablet and we are also lookgin for the followinf important things :
-A- securing the environnement by prohibiting the user to access the Os interface
-B- use a ethernet device via an USB adapter.
We have tested the following ones :
- Toshiba Folio 100 (ok for point A & B but not enough tested on HC 3.2)
- Acer Iconia A200 (the european tablet seems to be not rootable yet)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab P7510 (rootable without any problem so point A must "workable", but we habe problems with point B : do you connect your Tab with Ethernet ?)
Regards,
André
Hi André,
The samsung galaxy is very good, I have rooted it via this link http://galaxytabhacks.com/galaxy-tab-10-1-hacks/how-to-root-galaxy-tab-10-1-the-easy-way/
Yes my application dialog with a server via http request. So I don't want use wifi because it's slow and very limited.
If you want to hide the bottom bar you can use this code :
Code:
try {
Process myproc = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String[]{"su","-c","service call activity 79 s16 com.android.systemui"});
myproc.waitFor();
} catch (Exception e) {
Toast.makeText(this, "impossible to kill the bottom bar", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
Thanks,

i tested the firmware on my acer a500, but not the physical lenovo hardware, but thats not important here.
and since wifi is going offline during deepsleep on tegra2 tablet, i doubt any magic packet can awaken any tegra tablet unless you force wifi always on, but then alot of angry users will complain about battery life.

Hi,
I would like to see what 802.11 protocol version is used by nearby wifi networks. But no app shows it. Is it some API limitation? or is it not important information for anyone? cant understand... I can only see frequency...so I can imagine if it is 2,4 / 5 GHz..but not a/n. Windows apps shows protocol version without problems.
And almost all of Android wifi info apps looks similar so is it only different face to one API?
Thx
noone?
