Sim Unlock? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So i have been searching though the threads and I am finding different conflicting answers. I am doing this for my sister in law. She has a verizon sch 1535. I am wanting to unlock it to be used on att. I read that they are already unlocked but when I tried putting in my sim card (cincinnati bell) it said "non verizon sim card". I am familar with rooting i just need to know what i need to do to get it unlocked. also if i get it unlocked will data work?

You might want to flash a custom rom that is multi-carrier

Rogers SGH-i727r

I recently Purchased a Rogers Samsung Galaxy LTE (SGH-1727r)
I want to root/unlock the phone. If I do this, Will I be able to use the phone on the Bell/Telus network?
It is my undrstanding that I would nee to purchase an unlock code from one of the various websites. Would I also need to get an active "pay-as-you-go" SIM card in order to unlock it? Or am I able to make due with the Bell/Telus SIM cards I have from my other phones?
If u root and unlock, yez, u can use this phone with telus and bell.
Purchase an unlock code online and once its sim unlocked, root it and install CWM. You don't necessarily need a custom rom for the rest but if u do I recommend TPC v3 or MHX-Superlite 3.0.
Flash the telus vk1 radio in cwm and you're good to go.
Thanks
Thanks for the quick reply. It can be a little overwhelming at first.
I can confirm this I have my i727r running on the virgin network right now which is run by Bell. Just need to get the unlock code or take it somewhere to get it unlocked.

[Q] Rooted M919; Seeking Sim unlock

I've rooted my T-mobile M919 that is on 4.3. I've tried all the codes in all the forums, but can't get to any of the menus. Is there something I can do to sim unlock the phone? Thanks.

[Q] sim unlock a rooted non-stock T-Mobile G3 to run on ATT

Like the question the asks, I have a rooted TMO G3 running custom roms and looking at moving over to ATT and trying to see if I need to ditch the root and custom roms and go back to stock condition before sim unlocking. I have posted same question my TMO G3 forum. Any and all help is appreciated.

You shouldn't have to you. My att D850 is sim unlocked and used on TMO. I still have to use ATT roms.
All you do is shut off the phone, put in a sim from another carrier and boot up. You should then get prompted to enter the unlocked code and walla.

thanks for the reply but since I have a t-mobile G3 and been running root and custom roms since the very first days, I am a little wary about doing this for going to ATT

Unlocking Sprint based S8 after changed firmware to T-mobile.

Hey there,
I got a S8 phone from a coworker, that belonged to their ex. It was locked to their ex's google account. She gave it to me and said I could have it if I could get it to work.
Ended up flashing it with the T-mobile S8 firmware but only to find out that it was unlocked to the Sprint network. She is no longer on his plan so could not call Sprint to unlock it. And she doesn't want to call him to deal with it. Anyway, so no problem. Can unlock it via a 3rd party. Went with unlock base but still waiting for the code.
From what I read on the site, I will need to insert my sim and it will ask me for the unlock code. Unfortunately, when I insert a sim currently, it just says to contact sprint. I'm guessing this is due to the T-mobile firmware.
Will I now have to install the Sprint firmware to get it give me the unlock prompt upon sim insertion?
And after it's unlocked, can I go back to the T-mobile firmware?
Thanks for all the help in advance!
If the IMEI is paid off you can request an unlock from Sprint, if not you would need to use third party.
You can attempt unlock yourself but you do it at your own risk.

Would installing unlocked bootloader and firmware unlock the phone?

So what I want to do is switch this phone to straight talk but want the att bloatware off this. If I install unlocked firmware and root the device would that make it unlocked? Like not carrier locked. Straight talk said I can already use a Sim despite it being locked but I wanna unlock it myself.
I don't think att will yet and not sure if they will at all. I'm converting my chapter 13 bankruptcy to a 7 on Tuesday and att bill is rolled into it so the phones will be mine once that is discharged but not sure if they will unlock them right after or if it will take months, that's why I'm asking this. I already reinstalled att firmware on this phone because I tried to install a custom room and messed up due to the bootloader issue of it being v5 I think.
