I recently just purchased a tablet from verizon with a data plan. I am wondering if I can take the 4G LTE sim card from my tablet and put it into a verizon Galaxy S3 or S4 that has a bad esn. If it works I know that it would only receive LTE and not 3G or voice which is fine because I use google voice and make calls via Voip.
From everything I have researched I think it should work but I am looking for someone that has put a Verizon LTE sim into a verizon phone with a bad esn to verify that it does or does not work.
Thanks in advance!

Sell or trade the phone and get a tmobile one. Other than that there is no way your getting tmobile data to work.
That isn't entirely true. I got 2G (edge) working on a Galaxy S3 from Verizon that has been switched to T-Mobile. Just trying to find a way to get it to pickup 3G/4G now.
You need a stock rooted or touch whiz Rom!

i had a samsung s3 a while back and i was able to be on a call and surf the web with out being on wifi is this still possible?
This is a carrier specific thing. And yes you can do it if you have LTE or HSPA+. That is assuming you have AT&T as i do.
I'm on sprint... and all data gets knocked out once a phone call has been started or recieved LTE or not
on sprint with my S3 it worked even on 3g using data and phone on the s4 it only worked while on LTE/4g
I can confirm for both T-Mobile and AT&T that data and phone calls work together just fine.
sprint triband does not allow voice / data at the same time.

so its a carrier issue then...
Hi all, has anyone here tried or been successful in getting the data or lte over voice calls with Verizon's S6 using Tmobile? I have Tmobile and trying to use my gf's unlocked Verizon Galaxy S6. Almost everything works fine except that while on voice call, the signal drops to 1x and I can not simultaneously use data or receive mms. Are there any fixes for this? Any help would be appreciated as she is planning to switch from Verizon to Tmobile and I would love to just reuse the phone on Tmobile.
PS: Sorry not sure if this should be in a carrier specific thread. If so, not sure which one to choose since it sort of dual carrier concern

Try going to Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and change it to LTE / GSM / UMTS and see if that helps.
I searched this but was unable to find any matching scenario. This is typical CDMA carrier's simultaneous voice and data issue. The phone (Galaxy Note 5) was bough from Verizon and gets 4glte fine when on Verizon SIM card... even simultaneously. I wanted to use the phone with a AT&T sim and after changing APN settings it does work fine, but NO simultaneous voice and data. When I make a call the 4glte signal on the top status bar changes to 1x and there is no data. Once the call ends it switches to 4glte. I have activated Advanced calling with Ver sim card on and when the ATT sim is in it does show HD calling enabled. So what's wrong with the device?? Did anyone face same issue ? Any suggestion will be greatly APPRECIATED. btw I am w/o any contract plan with Verizon
FWIW my Note 5 switches from 4G LTE to 1x as soon as I start a call. Unless I enable advance calling then I have 4G while in a call. However if you ask me the call quality is lower when I have HD Voice enabled in the advance calling tab.

Same problem here. I do not want to use HD Voice but still want simultaneous voice and data. I had no issue with this on my Galaxy S5.
I just wish it would stop notifying me telling me I don't have data on a call.
This is very annoying. I didn't have to set this on my older note 3. But I also went ahead and got the advanced calling 1.0. I dont know why, its dumb but it is what it is.
The new phones don't have 2x radios like the old phones did, so can't do both simultaneously. That is why you have to use advanced calling to get both.
It is a physical limitation of the phone, nothing you can do about it.

Why doesn't Verizon switch to GSM? Would it mess up their coverage if they decided to do it? I'm being hypothetical. I know it would cost them way more than they would ever spend to do it.
In a sense they are all moving to the lte spectrum. Att is GSM. Verizon is cdma. Both are using similar lte at 700mhz. When using advance calling it's no longer using cdma 1x or GSM but lte using voip over lte data. Therefore you can use voice and data.

I ended up getting a AT&T Note 5 and sold the Verizon Note 5. Everything works fine (4G data and voice simultaneously) on this one. I believe it's a limitation of Verizon Note 5.

Yes. But that is true when you use a Verizon SIM card... with a ATT sim there is no way to get data on the Ver Note 5. So bottom line is on a Verizon Note 5 you must use a Verizon SIM card to have voice and data at the same time, with AC on. On a ATT Note 5 it works by default, no options to turn on and perfect quality.
I have a straight talk S3 (Verizon based) and a cricket sim card. How do I make the cricket sim work in the phone?

You need a CDMA SIM from any CDMA carrier and it will work as soon as you put it in, then you set your APNs to Tracfone APNs.
If your Cricket SIM is a GSM SIM then it won't work, it MUST be a CDMA SIM.
Verizon CDMA LTE SIMs are only $3-5 on eBay. I'm sure you can afford the price and the wait while it is mailed to you.

I used a friend's Verizon Galaxy SIII at one point... kind of... it took a while to detect the network each time the phone started up and it was only EDGE/2G
So, it works for phone calls and very slow data... might be okay if you're usually on wifi, but it's really better to just have a phone that is compatible with Cricket's HSPA+ 3G and 4G LTE network(s).

They are asking about the SIM because they have a straight talk s3 and that device has to use Verizon S3 ROMs and that makes the Straight Talk S3 require a SIM to have working mobile data, it won't work without the SIM. They weren't asking if they can use a Straight Talk S3 on Cricket network.
