Change Homescreen Icons (no root, no launcher, no app) ? - LG Optimus 3D

Feel free to read question in post #3
Yes it works
This was originally posted as question, but I later realized, I wont need root, I wont need a launcher and just use "Change Icon Free" from the Playstore. Done and done. Result, down there.
The app can even change the name of the shortcut, and you have options like brightness, contrast, resize etc.

Still Id like to know where the stock icons are beeing located on the Optimus 3D and if I can "reach" them via root.

Is there an icon pack that has this "app icon" as png (with transparency)

After a long time I used my 1st custom ROM. PACMAN v21.0 - 4.2.2
Now that I also have root, Im still searching for the location of the "app" Icon.
I like this icon already, but where would it be stored ?
As graphic inside a folder ? Stored inside of some apk ? Id like to change it.
For example into something more like this :
If its inside a folder, can I just replace it ? Or does it have to have the same size ?
If its inside an apk, I dont think it is a good idea to unpack it, replace the file and repack it ?
(checksum or something like that that could influence the system ?)
Any info is welcome.

You have to decompile the launcher you are using and replace the icon, you should have 2 png's,one when not pressed and one when pressed. Here is mine, Optimus g launcher with Xperia z icons

Thanks, so, decompiling the launcher of PACMAN would mean, finding a "trebuchet.apk" ? :silly:
Then looking for the png files in there.
Packing it pack as apk.
But whats with cheksums or other "integrity tests" when I "mess" with the apk (size) ?
It sounds as easy as you explained it, but I just want to be sure. =)
And my, you got the LG weather widget :victory:
I also like the battery icon. Which one is it ?

The standard icon size is 64x64 I don't think it would change apk size by much that you need to worry. As for the battery icon,if I remember correctly it's from darkroom, there is a flashable zip here in the themes forum from them with different battery icons.

1.) I opened trebuchet.apk with winrar, exchanged the png files.
2.) Renamed trebuchet.apk to trebuchet.apk.bak
3.) Copied the edited trebuchet.apk to system/app
4.) Closed the FileBrowser...and the phone rebooted at once (what a shock)
5.) It worked !
6.) Deleted trebuchet.apk
7.) Renamed trebuchet.apk.bak to Trebuchet.apk
8.) New Icon still visible...do I need to clear cache or dalvik now 1st ?
Thanks

Not necessary, unless you are experiencing lag with launcher.

Ok, I cleared cache and dalvik. The new icon for "apps" is still there.
Now, how to get back to the standard "apps" icon, without reflashing/factory reset ?
And most important, why is it still there ?
p.s.
I set the file preferences of trebuchet.apk from :
Owner: "system" to "root"
Group: "sd-card" to "root"
That did the job

One thing you can mention is that user should install another launcher because if this one fails, only option left will be to reflash. With another launcher a person can replace original files (someone who is not much aware of adb)

Help with SMS application

I made a change in application SMS GO to stay with the appearance of the original application of the xperia. I edited the file using EDIT APK, but when trying to install the phone in an error, even using recovery.
NOTE: already edited several apk, but this is not the only one that installs.
If any developer can guide me would be grateful.
Attached is the edited and original apk.

I'm sure that there a right way to modify 3rd part app,but since the moment that I don't know too much, I can only suggest you to convert go sms in a system app (you can do that with titanium backup pro or maybe with some other app...try to google it) and then if you only need to change .png images you can just replace them into the apk file without extracting it and then push the app into system and reboot!! If you need to modify .xml files, you can use apk manager to decompile, compile and sign the apk!! if you try to modify a 3rd part app it will not work (I don't know the technical reason),so converting it in a system app is a solution to this problem!! But maybe you can wait to hear other opinion from anyone else with better knowledge than me!! hope it helps you!!

I used the program "edit apk" it decompresses and subscribes automatically.
The only job I had was to change the images *. png and rename
It worked for all other applications except the sms go

You change .9.png or just .png? For editing the first ones you should use a patch, search in the general Android Themes thread.
For editing and compiling system apps you should use apkmanager instead of editapk (wich I don't know)...
If ya need further advice mail or PM me.
And sorry for my bad english!

Something strange happened!
Developers, tried all the above methods to install the modified application, but all without success.
I used modified ROM "vmmcs" 2.3.7
Unintentionally I had to reinstall the original rom Xperia 2.3.3.
Before installing custom ROM again. I tried to use the apk HE RAN NORMALLY.
CONCLUSION: SOME APPS MUST HAVE A MEANS TO RECOGNIZE THAT THE ANDROID HAVE ROOT, SO IT DOES NOT ALLOW THE INSTALLATION
Hello, if u have the SMS apk, why dun u try to unzip/unpack the apk contents, replace the PNG icons in Res/drawable-hdpi inside sMS apps, and rezip/repackaged using Formatter? I try to edit my Custom xperia Home.apk icons and it worked!! Here the guide thread for formatter
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108798
Sometimes, u might need to recheck path of files directories which as same as previous file Hope this helps.

[MOD] Stock HOME launcher - Sony apptray Icon

Hi guys...
I just built one simple MOD.
When I found more free time I'll draw better icon.
All this MODs are built on phone and it's very simple.
So here it is...
Apptry normal

Sure you can and it's very easy.
Open your apk with WinZip and go to folder res/xxhdpi.
Locate and change two pngs you'll find there :
1. Apptry_normal
2. Apptry_pressed
And just change those two png (copy and replace)
Be sure to choose "store" in compression method - in WinZip (WinZip will ask you when you replace png)

Tried it.
But can't locate the files in Home.apk & believe Apex launcher is very different from it
You can extract the icon you need from the apk, and in apex/nova long press the app drawer icon, press edit and change the png to the one you require (this works 100% on nova and apex should be the same)

That is just a mockup and not an actual screenshot.
You could try decompiling or using a CM12 Theme (not sure if a theme would be able to do it yet since it's fairly restricted at this point and I'm not sure what method is used to define the size).

Exactly. There's an Xposed module used for modding the status bar icons, but of course that wont work on Lollipop. If there's another app that makes it possible to mod the icons, then it probably wouldn't be too hard to do.

There are programs, that can do this. For example: Photoshop, Corel Photo-Paint, etc.
And no, it's not too hard.
Decompile Systemui.Apk edit icons via Paint/Photoshop. Then recompile.
Make a backup, systemui mods can cause bootloop.

You don't need to decompile. You can just rename .apk to .zip. Pull icons out, edit them and put them back. Rename .zip to .apk and you are done.
If you are using Total Commander, you don't even have to rename .apk to .zip an vice versa.
